-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC was the most-watched network on this typically low-rated Friday, while ABC and CBS tied for first among adults 18-49. NBC opened the evening with a repeat of Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 6.20 million; A18-49: #2, 1.2/ 4 at 8 p.m.), followed by Dateline (Viewers: #1, 5.99 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.4/ 4) and The Jay Leno Show (Viewers: #2, 5.56 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5) from 9-11 p.m.

CBS got some mileage out of repeat holiday specials Frosty the Snowman (Viewers: #1, 7.00 million; A18-49: #1, 2.1/ 8) and Frosty Returns (Viewers: #1, 6.51 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 7) from 8-9 p.m. That led into repeats of Medium (Viewers: #3, 4.51 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4) and Numb3rs (Viewers: #3, 5.35 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4) from 9-11 p.m.

ABC kicked-off this third Friday in December with Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 4.10 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4), which is not capable of anchoring the evening, followed by two episodes of veteran 20/20, which fared as follows:

20/20 (ABC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.39 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#1)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.72 million (#1), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#1)

Elsewhere, Fox burned off two more episodes of canceled Dollhouse (Viewers: #4, avg. 2.10 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 0.7/ 2 from 8-10 p.m.), while the last two encore telecasts of The CW’s week-long marathon of The Vampire Diaries was last with an average 1.46 million viewers and a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. As always, there is very little of note on troubled Friday.

How are they not winners?

ALthough they won their time periods, I don't see these as being such great performances.

With a 2.1 demo (which GW often can't even get in the slot), I agree that Frosty should be labeled a winner. Medium really doesn't repeat too well, and Numb3rs, even in repeats, has really lost a lot of demo this season. Dateline seems lower than usual, probably because Law & Order was a repeat, while Jay Leno actually had 100% demo retention, and about 95% viewer retention. I'd say thats pretty good - Leno seems to be up over 5 million permanently now.

Dollhouse was never cut out to be a long-running show on a major network. But that's what Whedon pitched it as, and that's who Whedon pitched it TO. SO IT'S HIS FAULT.

I think ABC has the right idea with reality shows on Friday, but Supernanny has been lower this year and I'm not expecting Wife Swap to do much better if it ends up on Friday again. ABC needs to find a reality show that is engaging enough to become regular appointment viewing.

The holiday specials did decently on CBS but they too struggled to get past a 2.0. CBS really needs to look at this night as viewers are abandoning it and they have to find something that will bring them back to the network. I'm not sold that Flashpoint is enough to bring them back.

I feel like I'm reading Saturday's numbers!

I think Dateline was down because 20/20 was against it this week. And once again, Leno is #2 -- not because it's doing much better than usual, but because the Numbers repeat fell so low.
