-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by mega-hit Dancing With the Stars, ABC opened the week as the most-watched network, while tying CBS for first among adults 18-49. NBC and Fox also tied for the No. 3 spot in the demo, while Fox was third in total viewers. Last, and very least, was repeat-riddled The CW.
Dancing With the Stars kicked-off the evening for ABC with a hefty 18.69 million viewers and a 4.8 rating/13 share from 8-9:30 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 17.02 million, A18-49: 4.1 rating/12 share
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 19.43 million, A18-49: 5.0/14
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 19.63 million, A18-49: 5.2/13
Second behind Dancing With the Stars was NBC’s Deal or No Deal at 10.92 million viewers and a 3.1/ 9 in the demo. Rounding off the hour were CBS’ How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 7.73 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1/ 9) and The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #4, 7.73 million; A18-49: #3, 3.0/ 8), a repeat of Fox’s House (Viewers: #4, 7.32 million; A18-49: #4, 2.6/ 7), and repeats of The CW’s Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: #5, 2.06 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 2) and All of Us (Viewers: #5, 2.07 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 2). Before you write The New Adventures of Old Christine off, keep in mind that it fits like a glove out of How I Met Your Mother.
The last half-hour of Dancing With the Stars took control, of course, of the 9 p.m. half-hour. But combined with the first half-hour of another 90-minute edition of The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman, ABC slipped from a 19.63 million viewers and a 5.2/13 among adults 18-49 to 9.93 million viewers and a 3.4/ 8 in the demo at 9:30 p.m. Overall, The Bachelor averaged 9.23 million viewers and a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 9:30-11 p.m. Why ABC has not given up on this tired franchise already is beyond me?
The return of CBS’ beloved The King of Queens notched a healthy (and first-place) 13.37 million viewers and a 4.6/ 11 among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, that was right on par with lead-in Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 13.39 million; A18-49: #2, 4.5/11). Fox’s veteran 24 also scored, with 11.38 million viewers (#3) and a 4.4/11 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that built from the House encore by 4.06 million viewers and 69 percent in the demo.
In series-premiere news, the two-hour launch of NBC improvisational comedy Thank God You’re Here scored a respectable 8.31 million viewers and a 3.6/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 9.52 million (#4), A18-49: 3.8/10 (#4)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 9.57 million (#4), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#3)
10:00 p.m. Viewers: 7.86 million (#3), A18-49: 3.6/ 9 (#2)
10:30 p.m. Viewers: 6.31 million (#3), A18-49: 3.5/10 (#2)
First in the 10 p.m. hour was CBS’ CSI: Miami at a solid 15.94 million viewers and a 4.6/12 among adults 18-49.
