I don't know that they care less lately. I think that today's viewer is so unbelievably unpatient that they want all of the answers to all of a show's mysteries within the first few episodes. Heroes is slated for 24 episodes this season (if there is no writer's strike). Why would Kring reveal all in the first few episodes of a season? People need to realize that serialized dramas like Heroes and Lost are telling a story. Each episode is a chapter in a book (or in Heroes' case, an issue of a comic book). The thrill of the ride is reading each chapter to see what happens at the end. If viewers want to know how it all ends in Episode 5, they should stick to the procedurals.

For the record, I love science fiction, and there isn't a show on television now that qualifies as real SF, other than Battlestar Galactica.
Heroes is recycled comic book gobbledygook, Chuck is warmed-over spycrap, Journeyman is like Time Tunnel without the tunnel, which was the only reason to watch.
Heroes at least has characters people care about. But they seem to be caring a lot less lately.
Chuck and Journeymen are pretty much done for. Neither are getting fantastic numbers. I think Chuck may ride out the season, but surely CBS can develop a show that can get more than 8 mil next season. I don't see a season 2 renewal for Chuck. Journeymen will be lucky to survive past November.
Samantha Who got very strong numbers to start out. It will be interesting to see if those numbers hold up next week. My guess is they won't. The Bachelor also made up some ground. Not impressive, but at least it's in the 9 millions.
Over on CBS, HIMYM is probably going to end this season. If I'm critizing Chuck for a poor performance, I have to say that this one isn't finding an audience this season. They should do what FOX did with the OC, let the fans know it's ending, give the writers time to end it well and give it a good goodbye out. BBT isn't impressive but with those numbers and seeing that HIMYM is doing, it probably will stay the whole season. I still think CBS can do better in the ratings without BBT and developing another comedy next season. But it wouldn't surprise me if it hangs on to season 2. It's a bubble show though.
CW is just tanking Monday night. I think it's a case of the comedies getting a little stale. I hear the chants and cries of wheres Reba a mile away. CW needs to develop some new comedies ASAP. These ones aren't doing it. They can keep the Game as filler. The rest should be banished from the lineup (of course I culd say that for the majority of shows on the CW roster).

Are the demo numbers holding for Heroes after the first 4 eps? I haven't been tracking it.
Well for the last 3 weeks the demo numbers were around 5. As for the quality i've always wondered what the hype was all about (the first season was so-so) but the second season it's a mess. I'm surprised it stays at 11 million, i thought it will drop more

HIMYM and BBT are still losing viewers and demo while 2&1/2Men and RoE grew from last week. Who really benefitted from this? Some guy named Chuck that grew 1million+ from last week.

NBC you mean, and really, REALLY, NBC can find another show to do 8 mil at 8 pm? O.o NBC?
If they can't, they are in serious trouble. Any of the big 3 should have a show that can post near 10 mil to start out the night. If not, they aren't doing something right.

What exactly about it is a mess? From where I sit, the only storyline that's not working is the Wonder Twins. Hopefully, it will improve now that they've been connected to a Season 1 character.

CHUCK - anchoring a nite on a weak net like NBC is tough to do, and this is doing well under the circumstances. I think it fits their thursday nite themes better, but that's another subject. Decent show.
SAMANTHA WHO? - Was looking forward to this, but thought pilot was iffy. Got better as it went on. These ratings buy it some cushion to air better eps. Here's hoping we don't see anything resembling those first 10 minutes or so again.

So why was Heroes such a big hit when it premiered last season, and they didn't answer all the mysteries right away? You think viewers got stupider in the course of one year?
I think the opposite, actually. The people who stopped watching are the smart ones.
