Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 10/15/07

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 15.18 million, CBS: 11.95, Fox: 9.18, NBC: 8.83, CW: 2.46

-Adults 18-49:
ABC: 4.2 rating/10 share, CBS: 4.1/10, NBC: 3.7/ 9, Fox: 2.9/ 7, CW: 1.0/ 2

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC), Heroes (NBC), Two and a Half Men (CBS), Samantha Who? (ABC), CSI: Miami (CBS)

-Disappointing:
The Bachelor (ABC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Everybody Hates Chris (CW), Aliens in America (CW), Girlfriends (CW), Journeyman (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC danced its way to Monday victory, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. CBS was second in both categories, followed by NBC and Fox tied for the No. three and four spots, and the CW a distant fifth.

A 90-minute edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars was the most-watched show of the evening, with a hefty 19.19 million viewers and a 4.6 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m. Start packing, Mark Cuban! That led into the premiere of sitcom Samantha Who?, which opened first in total viewers (14.92 million) and second behind NBC’s Heroes among adults 18-49 (4.5/10) at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, retention for Samantha Who? out of the last half-hour of Dancing With the Stars (Viewers: 20.07 million; A18-49: 4.9/11 at 9 p.m.) was 74 percent in total viewers and 92 percent among adults 18-49. This is a solid start for Samantha Who?, but how far can the gimmick of having amnesia hold up for?

ABC lost a great deal of steam at 10 p.m. with should-be-retired The Bachelor at 9.30 million viewers (#2) and a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2).

CBS had what you would now call a typical Monday, with its combination of the following programs:

CBS/Monday
8:00 p.m. How I Met Your Mother
Viewers: 7.96 million (#3), A18-49: 3.1/ 9 (#2t)

8:30 p.m. The Big Bang Theory
Viewers: 8.15 million (#4), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#3)

9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men
Viewers: 13.78 million (#2), A18-49: 4.8/11 (#3)

9:30 p.m. Rules of Engagement
Viewers: 11.02 million (#3), A18-49: 4.0/ 9 (#3)

10:00 p.m. CSI: Miami
Viewers: 15.40 million (#1), A18-49: 4.8/12 (#1)

Worth noting was the ongoing minor growth for The Big Bang Theory out of How I Met Your Mother.

Over at NBC, it looks like Chuck has settled in, with 8.23 million viewers (#2) and a 3.2/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2t) from 8-9 p.m. While the results could certainly be worse, one year earlier former occupant Deal or No Deal averaged 17.47 million viewers and a 5.2/14 in the demo.

Chuck led into Heroes, which was third in total viewers (11.26 million), but first among adults 18-49 (5.1/12) at 9 p.m., followed by week four of disappointing Journeyman at 7.00 million viewers (#4) and a 2.9/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#3). Retention for Journeyman out of Heroes was just 62 percent in total viewers and 57 percent among adults 18-49. One year earlier, failed occupant Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip averaged 7.74 million viewers and a 3.1/ 8 in the demo in the 10 p.m. hour.

Fox got a Monday boost courtesy of game three of the American League Championship Series, which averaged an approximate 9.18 million viewers and a 2.9/ 7 among adults 18-49 in prime-time. As always, results for any live sporting event are approximate.

The CW capped off the evening with its typically lackluster last-place combination of Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.57 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3), episode three of Aliens in America (Viewers: 2.23 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 2), Girlfriends (Viewers: 2.42 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 2) and The Game (Viewers: 2.64 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3). Continued growth for The Game out of Girlfriends keeps it off the list of losers.

I'd just like to point out that journeyman is probably significantly cheaper than studio 60 and the whole scifi night really gives nbc a branding edge. Having Sunday Night Football probably means appealing more to the males and this line up seems to be fairly compatible.

Not that the numbers are anything to hoot about but theoretically, it's supposed to work.

Going too heavily sci fi loses accessibility for a mainstream network audience. A whole night of it just may not work outside of cable.

I'd just like to point out that they aren't going to renew a show that does WORSE than Studio 60--it may cost less, but it's hardly cheap. If they want something semi-compatible to go with Heroes (which itself might be lucky to get past season three), they can order up plenty of new genre pilots for next season. They doubtless have a few prospects even for midseason.

Journeyman is doomed, Chuck could go either way. Neither is particularly good, so why worry about it?

I'm glad to see that Heroes went up last night. Probably the best episode to air this year (although I never thought this season was bad like some have). It's too bad about Journeyman. If it were on some other night, I would have watched it. Unfortunately, it's up against CSI: Miami. CSI:M is like an addiction. You know you should give it up, but you just can't.

I think the addition of Medium at 10 would be a good idea.

For the record, I love science fiction, and there isn't a show on television now that qualifies as real SF, other than Battlestar Galactica.

Heroes is recycled comic book gobbledygook, Chuck is warmed-over spycrap, Journeyman is like Time Tunnel without the tunnel, which was the only reason to watch.

Heroes at least has characters people care about. But they seem to be caring a lot less lately.

I never thought it was bad either, just different. However, after last night's episode, I think they might be back on track this season.

My guess Chuck will stay for a full season but with these numbers i don't see it being renwed (althogh for NBC 8 million might seem great these days). Journeyman will be gone soon.
Heroes wil stay at 10-12 million viewers during the season, but is really a hit as i read always on the media?
Nice nimbers for CSI Miami and Samantha Who while CBS comedy block does worse than expected

I think you're being a wee big negative. I don't see HEROES going anywhere anytime soon. Right now the mark of solid seems to be 10mil so I hardly think the cancellation countdown has begun. HEROES brings NBC a marquee show, which the network severely lacks, especially with the end of the L&O franchise fast approaching and ER sure to end this season.

As for CHUCK, I guess to each their own because I quite like this show. I do wonder how much it's being impacted by MNF and the baseball playoffs. Will be interesting to see if it gets a lift when one or the other ends. Also curiously, it's a top 5 show over on iTunes.

Although I kind of like Journeyman, I realize it's doomed now. NBC should plan to put Medium there.

I really do like Chuck, but its in about the worst time slot possible. They may want to try some other slot.

Samantha Who? did not hit any jokes out of the park, but it's not the dreck of Cavemen, Carpoolers, or Terms of Engagement. The real problem is how will it do without DWTS.

oh, and Mark Cuban should go. And Sabrina should win.

The Game stays off the 'loser' list with growth (of 220,00 viewers 0.1demo) on its lead-in? Girlfriends only had growth 0f 190,000 viewers 0.1demo) so it stays on the 'loser' list? That is a mighty fine line to walk for qualification, especially given that Girlfriends competes with DwtS and 2&1/2Men while The Game competes with RoE and Samantha Who.

Heroes was appalling last night. I wasn't a big fan to begin with, but these horrible characters with their leaden dialogue are starting to grate w/ no action. None.

Are the demo numbers holding for Heroes after the first 4 eps? I haven't been tracking it.

As Crag Ferguson will say "if it's written down, it must be true, eh-heh heh"

but all that media coverage, it's what cbs will kill for no?
