You can stand by your statement all you want, Samcat.
But absent evidence, it just doesn't make sense that ABC, operating in basically a three-network world, had lower 18-49 demo numbers than it does in today's fractured world of TV.
Remember that the 30th ranked show in the early 70s got higher ratings than last year's #1: American Idol (Wed, 17.3). 70-71 #30 CBS Thursday Movie 19.3 71-72 #30 CBS Friday Movie 19.5 72-73 #29(t) ABC Monday Movie 19.2 #29(t) The FBI (ABC) 19.2 #29(t) Kung Fu (ABC) 19.2 74-75 #30 CBS Thursday Movie 19.9 75-76 #30 Emergency (NBC) 20.0
Given those hard numbers (and remembering that in the 1970-71 season, for example, there were just 66 programs when the season began), it is hard to believe even ABC's worst rated shows did anywhere near as poorly as this year's laggards.
But I am always ready to be swayed by hard evidence.
(These numbers, by the way come from the just-published Ninth Edition of "The Complete Directory To Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows, 1946-Present". It is a priceless reference book Marc has contributed to over the years.)
Well back home after all the traveling and some interesting patterns showing up here and there. It appears that ABC's Tuesday as suspected, hit a new low. Maybe shift Jim and Carpoolers up an hour and go with Primetime as BL's lead in. That was an alright lead in last season and at the same time burn off the two other shows. CBS as expected did well with older viewers. Fox's Death Star was still killing everything else. NBC should be very happy with those Biggest Loser numbers because they have not had something do that well against Idol ever. Next week look for growth through the telecast into SVU. The CW should be pleased that OTH fans have returned and appeared to have enjoyed the show.

And a number of those episodes even featured a large number of youth-aimed guests like The Bay City Rollers.
Are you claiming that ABC in the 70s, a youth-targeted network who's lowest rated show (Howard Cosell) had an 11.5HH/22% household reach, still averaged a lower weekly demo score than the 1.9 A18-49 ABC is averaging so far this week?
Lets not forget that back then, there were only 3, yes 3, networks. If a show wasn't getting 40%, it was usually cancelled.
But, when you compare ABC to then and ABC to now, its may be about the same.

Was starting to worry about you mushu. thought you may have been lost after the holidays.

I think I read somewhere that this season's Idol will do more to feature the losers: giving them the chance to sing 3 departing songs instead of 1. Listening as the losers sing their swan song will almost certainly run over the timeslot if/when desired.

Don't worry TV. I just forgot to tell everyone I was going to Disney and Universal and then when I arrived we had to buy the internet access so we decided just to go cold turkey.

I'll be down there next month and will have to find a way to get online myself. Getting the access will not be the issue though.
