They put this show on hiatus for two months; bring it back; upon its return, it scores ratings so horrific they put it in serious jeopardy of not even burning off the remainder of the episodes during the strike; and then the second week back on the air, they show a repeat. Is McFearsome retarded?
Yes, this was extremely stupid. The only remotely plausible explanation I've seen was when Dumont suggested that it may have just been a placeholder in case they wanted to import ABC News primary coverage at the last minute. But I guess Clinton's victory over Uncommitted wasn't newsworthy enough.

If ABC wants audience growth with BL, they should have a younger-skewing program lead in to it, not that BL deserves it necessarily. But, if that's what they want to do, that's what they should do.
Regardless of winners and losers, a show is always going to look positive when it builds out of the previous show by that much. Just the way it goes. Even if the show's numbers are not fantastic, it still did well out of almost nothing.

I think "The Usual BL Audience" needs to be reduced to 7 million and a 2 in the demo. It only reaches 10 mil with help of DWts as a lead in
They ran the season finale of Boston Legal last year a week after sweeps and it still was able to pull just shy of 10 million viewers. The problem is with ABC and how they schedule BL, not with BL itself. Up until the last few episodes, it was UP year-to-year, while most shows (even the biggies) were down year-to-year.
So.... keeping it stable on the same day and time period is a problem????
As soon as DWtS was over, BL pulled only 8.6 million viewers and a 2.2 (Dec 4th). Before then it had ben averaging in the area of 11.5 million viewers
Yeah, that's why I wonder how SWINGTOWN got greenlit. Since I'm not old yet I still want to see it but who knows if they got any episodes in the can before the strike.
SWINGTOWN is horrible, and i mean VL type of horrible

Brothers and Sisters was down without a DH lead-in. Also, we always talk about shows in the 10:00 hour and how little/much they retained from the 9:00 hour...rarely do we see a 10:00 show increase dramatically, if at all, from a 9:00 show, especially on ABC. What BL was able to do last night, while nothing to write home about, certainly wasn't terrible.

Which would be fine if anyone was watching ABC "all week". On a positive note, 4 out of the 5 people watching the Carpoolers rerun all tuned in to Boston Legal.

Considering the other networks have months each season to plan for a counterprogramming strategy, ABC's combo of Just for Laughs, AtJ and Carpoolers is laughable. And NBC should have known that The Biggest Loser would have deflated against AI -- just as it was hitting season highs, it went to season lows.
Come now. Do you really think NBC is going to cry too much over what "Biggest Loser" did last night? What else have they got that can score a 3.0 key demo opposite you-know-what? I think that's a fairly solid turn-out considering that, unlike "NCIS" or "Criminal Minds," it isn't counterprogramming. I also think we're going to see a big jump in the live plus 7 day ratings.
-- "Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."
I agree that last night's auditions were boring. None of the talent was amazing. I know they usually keep the better cities for later, but if talent doesn't show up soon, some more people will stop watching.

Granted I'm not a fan of this show, but my other half is and I am subjected to it sometimes when I can't escape.
But doesn't it make more sense for people to wait until the first finalist show comes out before making judgements and jumping ship. As I heard in an article, Jordan was barely even on during the "audition" episodes.

A great deal of the ratings garnered by each premiere of AI relate directly to the previous season. Last year's premiere did extremely well because the prior season was a massive success. Then the show slid downhill with boring contestants and lackluster editing. There was no excitement. I'm not hugely surprised then to see a dip this season, but if the producers return to detailed back stories and letting the audience get to know the contestants, hopefully we'll have another phenom year ala season 5.
