CBS has the right idea with counterprogramming against AI with older-skewing but solid shows and specials.

Considering the other networks have months each season to plan for a counterprogramming strategy, ABC's combo of Just for Laughs, AtJ and Carpoolers is laughable. And NBC should have known that The Biggest Loser would have deflated against AI -- just as it was hitting season highs, it went to season lows.

There really is no excuse this time for the low rating for Boston Legal.

It did have some promotion all week on ABC. Even though it was originally supposed to air last week and was pulled for Cashmere Mafia, fans did know it would air this week.

Beyond that, it did not have IDOL against it. It had a new SVU (which always dominates) and part 2 of a movie on CBS. The usual BL audience of 10 mil and 2.5 or so in the demo should have been there.

A 7 mil audience and 2.1 demo definitely warrants the show a trip to the losers list this week, and I think it is not there simply because Marc thinks it was a repeat.

Could just be. And already there seem to be a few people way more interesting than last year's crew--the horse trainer and the nanny who minds the two twins and who won't watch r-rated films, and the woman with the damaged child. I wish they'd lay off those tedious bits with the rejectees yelling and hollering at the camera. We get it! We get it!

I'm not surprised that Biggest Loser dropped so much - other than the logical argument that reality fans switched to the more popular show of that genre - this edition is not good and seems rushed. As a fan of the show I think the couples element adds nothing, and at the end when they show the eliminated teams now, they are still pretty fat. Not enough time has passed for them to have lost the weight like in past editions.

Yeah, that's why I wonder how SWINGTOWN got greenlit. Since I'm not old yet I still want to see it but who knows if they got any episodes in the can before the strike.

With those numbers, ABC might be better off running 3 hours of AFHV. Wink

Seriously though, it's not like CBS is way behind in the demo. They get more viewers and are still competitive in the 18-49 demo.

Yes, and they had a lot more total demo viewers than did ABC last night. Yet, some here seem to think that the high number of non-demo viewers somehow cancels out the numbers in the demo.

As for AI, that is a pretty high peak. So, it fell to 33 million viewers and a 13.8 demo. At that rate of decline, all of the doom and gloom AI haters will be correct about the shows demise as a powerhouse in say 5 years.

Even Chicken Little was correct about his prediction if you wait a couple billion years.

I think it's about time the other networks counterprogrammed. OK, I'll cut them a tiny bit of slack because of the strike-induced shortage of new episodes for now, but next season they should pull out all the stops.

I think "The Usual BL Audience" needs to be reduced to 7 million and a 2 in the demo. It only reaches 10 mil with help of DWts as a lead in

Well, not just yet. If you look back, even to last season, and this one, even without the dancing, the show was still able to pull in close to 9 and mid 2's for the demo. Has only been since the strike that the show has dipped to this level.

I mean, even building on the lead-in's, these numbers cannot make ABC happy.

I don't think BL should be a loser. It had .9 18-49 demo lead-in and was able to jump 57% to a 2.1 (bigger than SVU's 35% jump), I think it deserves some credit for that, not a "winner" credit, but not a loser either.

If ABC wants audience growth with BL, they should have a younger-skewing program lead in to it, not that BL deserves it necessarily. But, if that's what they want to do, that's what they should do.

Was I the only one a bit bored by AI last night? there were no Williams Hungs of the crop. On the flipside, there was no talent that REALLY stood out to me. They emphasized the contestants stories more than their talent.

I disagree. I saw several people that seem to have talent. I am thankful that there was bo william hung! Yuck. I hate that whole aspect of the show.
