----------
-Ratings Breakdown: Fox won this fifth Tuesday of the new season, with its combination of Bones (Viewers: #2, 8.82 million; A18-49: #2, 3.1 rating/ 9 share) and bona fide hit House (Viewers: #1, 17.87 million; A18-49: #1, 7.6/18). Second was ABC with its line-up of Cavemen (Viewers: #4, 6.55 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 6 – series low), Carpoolers (Viewers: #3, 7.13 million; A18-49: #4, 2.4/ 6 – series low), Dancing With the Stars (Viewers: #1, 17.82 million; A18-49: #2, 4.4/11), and a special edition of 20/20 focusing on the current fires in California (Viewers: #2, 10.92 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8). 20/20 was a last minute replacement for Boston Legal. As for Cavemen, the cancellation clock is certainly ticking.
CBS ranked second overall in total viewers and fourth among 18-49 with its line-up of underrated NCIS (Viewers: #1, 17.09 million; A18-49: #1, 3.7/10), just full season-renewed The Unit (Viewers: #3, 10.86 million; A18-49: #4, 3.0/ 7), and struggling Cane at a series low 7.98 million viewers and a 2.0/ 5 in the demo. One year earlier on this evening was a repeat of Criminal Minds at 9.13 million viewers and a 2.9/ 8 in the demo at 10 p.m. Needless to say, the future for Cane looks bleak.
NBC had a typical Tuesday as a result of The Singing Bee (Viewers: #3, 6.82 million; A18-49: #3, 2.3/ 7), which belongs in the summer and not on the fall schedule, The Biggest Loser (Viewers: 7.17 million; A18-49: 3.1/ 8 from 8:30-10 p.m.), and veteran Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #1, 12.17 million; A18-49: #1, 4.7/13 at 10 p.m.). Worth noting for The Biggest Loser was growth out of The Singing Bee of 35 percent among adults 18-49.
The CW had a particularly disappointing Tuesday, with uneventful Beauty and the Geek (Viewers: 3.20 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 4) leading into a series-low 2.57 million viewers and a 1.2/ 3 in the demo for Reaper. Sorry CW, but it’s off to the loser’s listing for Reaper.
I haven't been watching Reaper, and I don't care if it continues or not, but the one criticism I keep hearing is that each episode is EXACTLY the same as every other episode. Yes, predictability is often a good thing as far as TV viewers are concerned, but I gather this is too much of a good thing. You've seen one Reaper, you've seen 'em all.
But of course, most people will never see the one.
20/20 did not do that much better than BL and the numbers will go down a tad after finals due to DWTS running over. Not that it was a comeptition between the two, but some seemed to think 20/20 would do amazing numbers and cause ABC to move BL to fridays or something...
a special edition of 20/20 focusing on the current fires in California (Viewers: #2, 10.92 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8).
Those numbers are a little better than what BL has done all season. Not bad since ABC now gets to push back an original episode in place of a repeat.
I doubt though that 20/20 would do there types of numbers on a regular basis, in this time slot.
Really? After the finals when the Dancing overrun is counted, and the numbers go down, 20/20 will have done the same or in fact, a bit less than what BL has done all season.
That certainly was a knuckle-dragging demo number from the Cavemen. Might have been a one week blip. Next week it will bounce back to the 3.0 zone.
Too bad about Cane, which seems to be hemmoraging viewers each week. I watched it last night as my favourite Boston Legal was pre-empted, and I rather enjoyed it. It reminded me favourably of MyNetworkTV's Saints & Sinners, and it will probably suffer a similar demise (a stack of unaired episodes cluttering up the credenza of Mr. Moonves).
And I don't know what to say about Reaper (other than Veronica Mars was doing better this time last year, thank you very much Ms. Ostroff). Reaper had a good episode last night...I hope it rebounds next week.
IDK. I starting to get the feeling that CBS will be patient with this show. May be willing to take a small hit now, ratings-wise, for a possible hit down the road.
