I too liked the premiere of Fringe. Very well done. I wonder how many people were too scared to continue watching after the first scene? The co-pilots mouth/jaw falling off was pretty cool!

That said, I can't wait to see how 'Fringe' does. I liked the premiere; a cross between 'XFiles' and 'Lost'.

Yeah, it was. Thanks for that visual reminder; I was just trying to eat breakfast. lol
But there needs to be a place for shows that get 6-7 million viewers also now.
It's called CABLE.

Otherwise there is only room for about 8 scripted shows now of all the networks.
You're assuming SCC and PB stay at their premiere levels all season--they'll go down. A lot.

that is why networks need to hold on to the little shows also otherwise there is nothing left to air besides re-runs.
Explain to me how SCC, with its huge production budget, and nonstop promotion (and universal name recognition from Day One) qualifies as a 'little show'.
You're making a valid argument, but it's not valid for these shows. They just aren't economically viable. If the networks follow the path you've laid out, they'll all go belly-up in a decade. It's free entertainment for you, but for them it's a pit they keep tossing more money into, and never get anything back. And both shows will do horribly in syndication, and DVD revenues won't come close to compensating--assuming the network gets a piece of either revenue stream, which I don't believe it does.
They do need to figure out how to make profits in an era of fragmented market share--but this isn't the way.
Pisher, you can save some posts. I think almost everyone realizes that the end is very near for T:SCC and PB isn't that far behind. Their ratings are too low, regardless of production costs. New Amsterdam did better than both of these shows and it was cancelled.
That is just sad. Luckily for MNTV, they have Smackdown, Jail, and Street Patrol to help them out. The Tony Rock Sketch show should help them out also.

I honestly don't care about PB either way. I thought T:SCC was a dumb idea the moment I heard about it, and watching bits of the show has done nothing to change my mind--if FOX hadn't been so invested in it, it would never have gotten a second season. So I'm not convinced they'll pull the plug before the end of this one. How many seasons did Dark Angel run?

Maybe if there'd been a New Amsterdam movie with Christian Bale in the works.......
We were on a plane watching it on a DVD. Kind of made it even scarier for us.

Are there any numbers for True Blood yet? I'd also be interested to see how much Raising the Bar dropped from it's record-breaking premier. I haven't seen a critic have a good word to say about it and with a few exceptions I didn't seem to go over very well here.
•Bloody HBO's True Blood averaged a modest 1.4 million for Sunday's debut, while the fifth-season opener for Entourage (1.6 million) was down 27% from 2.2 million in June 2007.
Good numbers for True Blood. And there is actually critics that liked it. And i have heard the 2nd episode is MUCH better then the pilot. This could become HBO's next best thing

I don't think that number is very good for HBO. It would be great for Showtime, but for HBO they expect more viewers for a premiere.

Alot lower than I expected, hopefully it built by each half hour.
Maybe that's the demo number, which would be quite good. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was HH, because overalll numbers for Fox premieres have been down so far.
