Yeah the 18-49 ties the worst of the season. But the 18-34 isn't the lowest of this season (we have had 1.0 and two 1.1).
But to keep things in perspective. Same week last year
Smallville had 3.805 1.6 1.7 Reaper had (we were pulled from the schedule) 2.523 1.1 .9
So its an improvement year to year same week.
If we compare it to the 2nd week of Sweeps last year it was SN 2.676 1.1 1.1
So an improvement in viewers and the 18-34 demo for sweeps.
If we compare it episode to episode (Currently episode 15) SN 2.545 1.0 .9
An improvement in Viewers and both demo groups.
If we compare it to the first original episode after the spring rerun break SN 2.216 1.0 .9
And again an improvement in viewers and both demo groups.
So while the numebrs are low, SN continues to be the only show on Thursday that has had improvements each week for original episodes.

it might go on for a 6th season
I hope not!
I believe the show's creator specifically wants just a 5 year run for Supernatural.
Nice to ER hit a 4 in the demo. Hell's Kitchen's 3.5 in the demo only gets it fourth place (Third place at the half hour mark) ? Who said multiple hits can't co-exist?

Actually Kripke has stated several times that he planned out a 5 year arc. He has never sad that he only will do 5 years. And it isn't as if he hasn't adjusted teh arc before. He has for the last half of season 2 and 3.
Now whether CW will want a 6th season, or if the current producers and stars would sign up for a 6th season is a different issue. But it is very rare for a producer to say, I don't want more, and then for a series to stop.
Those numbers for SPN will come back up next week. Hell, the digitial TV guide for Orance County said that last nigiht's SPN was a rerun. Between that and the preemptions, no wonder the numbers were down. Like metal said, we're renewed. Who cares?
As for a 6th season, I don't see it. How can they drag out the brother vs. brother battle that long? Kripke has a 5 year arc. That's what he should stick to.
Ugly Betty will return Thursday, May 7 at 8pm (In The Motherhood and Samantha Who? will air 6 episodes each in slot from 3/26 to 4/30.)
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 9-11PM Lost (season finale)
Thursday, May 14, 2009 9-11PM Grey's Anatomy (season finale)
Sunday, May 17, 2009 7-9PM Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (season finale) 9-11PM Desperate Housewives (season finale)
All this is in addition to the finales that were confirmed such as According to Jim (May 5, 8-9PM), Scrubs (May 6, 8-9PM), AFV (May 15, 8-10PM), Dancing with the Stars Performance (May 18, 8-9PM), Dancing with the Stars: The Results (May 19, 9-11PM). No confirmations yet for Brothers & Sisters and Private Practice, but all signs point that they will have the finals on May 10 and April 30, respectively. Ugly Betty will likely spill a bit into summer or they can hold the episodes until next year. No news on newcomers yet such as Better off Ted, Castle, Cupid, The Unusuals, and Surviving Suburbia.
I can't wait to see who kisses a girl on Desperate Houewives Sunday. I kissed a girl and I like it !!!!!!!!!! It's gonna be SICKENINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!

ER finally reminded us why we loved them instantly when it first came on the scene. It's too bad that Carter and doug and carol didn't know how they helped each other -- i guess that is open to debate. But why didn't they save this episode for the last episode or the next to last episode? they could have started to promote this more than just a week in advance.
I'm kinda annoyed at the way they portrayed spencer's ouster. He reveals something about himself and then all of a sudden he's on the chopping block. He could have tried to create an alliance with taj or something.

Perhaps the final 3 episodes will be even better.

The only thing that Spencer revealed about himself was that he held the belief that all Southerners are homophobic and cannot be trusted. His inability to relate to and interact with his fellow tribe members is what led to his downfall.

I think this is a realistic assessment of this finale. To alot of old ER viewers the show has essentially been "off the air" for quite awhile. Also, the shelf life of peoples' interest in even well liked characters is not forever.

The demos are saving GA from a being a failure. For now.
