I would try airing Dollhouse out of American Idol for one week to see what happens.

Buffy was never the success some of you may believe.

You are so full of it. is that why the show lasted for 7 years? Look, Buffy was one of the shows that made The WB what it was back in the days. If Buffy was shown on the "parent" channels, this show would not have lasted, but this show lasted 7 years with 4.5 million as you stated. I know of ANOTHER show that lasted for 8 years with lower ratings, it was called CHARMED. Also, Buffy has a loyal fanbase that is STILL around today.

You know robert, get over it. Not all shows are going to have your The Mentalist ratings. You must work for CBS.

If Fox really had faith in Dollhouse, they would have repeated the pilot after Thursday's Idol instead of kitchen nightmares.

'Buffy, The Vampire Slayer' was a huge success for The WB (spinning off 'Angel'), and then for UPN too.

Buffy always rated well during the regular season, and Buffy's summer season numbers would out-rate some of The CW regular season numbers today.

'Buffy, The Vampire Slayer' Nielsen Household Rating Averages
Regular vs. Summer Season
s years	web	Regular	Summer
1	96-97	WB	2.5	2.1
2	97-98	WB	3.5	2.4

4	99-00	WB	3.1	1.9
5	00-01	WB	2.9	1.2

Thanks for that, dumont. Shows that robert either works for CBS or is just a jerk towards those shows that don't make The mentalist's ratings.

BTW, robert, at least Buffy lasted longer than The OC which probably had higher ratings than Buffy.

If you're going to base a show's success strictly on its ratings, then I know of a show that wasn't even a modest success. In fact, compared to Buffy, it was a total flop. On top of not having great ratings, it only lasted 3 seasons. (And only got that third season by the skin of its teeth.) But, it wasn't like the show's ratings suddenly improved, and no one was really surprised when it was finally canceled.

Still, despite all of that, I think most would agree that Star Trek turned out to be pretty successful.

Buffy, and shows like it, are called "cult hits" for a reason. They might not have the highest ratings on their network (although Buffy did pretty well for a cult show), but they have loyal fans, and are usually around and remembered (and making money) long after they go off the air.

Exactly. Nobody is going to remember The mentalist when it gets cancelled cause its just another "who done it" crime show.

What are the viewing numbers? Prove me wrong. I mean Smallville in its 8th season gets close to those 4.5 millions. Sorry Buffy was a success for WB, but it wasn't the hit many think. Dollhouse gets those numbers and almost everyone thinks it's a disaster

Yeah right, and besides some Whedon fanboys/girls who remembers Buffy?

Well on WB The OC would've lasted 10 seasons with those numbers. The Mentalist, a show i DON'T like, gets 5 times more viewers than Buffy. So sorry, but if Buffy was a hit than Mentalis is probably a super-mega-extraterestrial hit

Sorry for the consecutive posts, but i have to defend the truth. After all Whedon's fans are living in a SF world as their idol. Dollhouse is dead. Get used to it

Those numbers pale to what Fox needs to make it work on a Friday for Dollhouse and Dollhouse ain't anywhere near that level either.

You're right robert. Buffy wouldn't have lasted a year on Fox or any other major network. The OC was canceled because its ratings fell to WB-level hit.

I think the likely syndicated success of the Mentalist will guarantee people remember it for much longer than they remember Buffy which syndicates where? An occasion repeat on FX?

I wouldn't. The show has no shot of making it big. Better off airing an episode of something they know ppl will try.
