I am really surprised Drive is such a failure. The show is pretty entertaining. It was hyped up by Fox, got pretty decent reviews, was promoted for months by Fox, and the viewers are just not therere..
I'm not surprised.
IT'S A TIM MINEAR SHOW STARRING NATHAN FILLION.
I've seen a lot of posts from you getting all angry and upset about these two guys. Have they done something to you in your personal life? It's pretty strange when you actually enjoy a TV show's failure. Maybe you need to take a break from TV for a while?
I'd say no, but others might like it better. It just continued this season's trend of repeating every trope they've used in previous seasons, with even more instances of leaving secondary plots dangling. You know, like how Charles Logan has been flatlining in the back of that ambulance for four hours now, because TPTB can't be arsed to update us on his condition.
BTW, thanks so much for posting the ratings for SciFi's Friday lineup; I meant to do that in my comment and forgot.
They might slightly decrease the the numbers for 1 of its shows in order to increase the numbers of 2 others.
Or they might significantly decrease House's ratings in order to get the same (or lower) ratings for Drive, as people continue to run the hell away from it.

Instead, Drive is all but done, and 24 is left to air with no lead in to it.
But Drive was going to be done no matter what. You assume that any show can be turned into a success, and it's just about the right promotion, and the right timeslot--packaging, in other words. But in fact, you can repackage a product people don't want all you like, and they'll just turn their backs on it--like New Coke, for example.

If you took a second to think before you speak Pisher, maybe you would be better off.
And if you'd just take that stick out of your butt, you might see how funny your ideas really are.

At this point, Drive hasn't done anything that would be difficult to follow for a new viewer just tuning in. Maybe they intend to take 'plotline' seriously, but it seems more lighthearted/camp than that. This latest episode ditched all the Amazing Race style pitstop/detours/roadblocks and just had charcter development. Still, it is 'character development' like you see on Grey's Anatomy. If you tuned in for the first time you could still figure out fairly quickly which people are 'teamed up' with which people.
wasn't drive originally scheduled to air on a Wednesday after Idol? I wonder what happened to that plan. Marc is there any way to see a half hour break down of drive, like how it started and how it finished?

I'm not angry or upset. I'm amused and triumphant. I've got no bone to pick with either of them, but I'm really tired of seeing people praise them to the skies because of their tenuous professional connection to the terminally overrated Joss Whedon, whose work I used to enjoy. They have gotten more than enough chances for one lifetime, and it's time they went to the back of the line.
Why do you have such a problem with me expressing my opinions on a forum devoted to that purpose?
If I've done anything to offend you in your personal life, I was not aware. That you had one.

The numbers may not be good enough for renewal (especially taking into consideration the rumored cost of the show), but they're not bad enough to halt production. Also, unlike "The Wedding Bells," I think FOX does have their sights on a DVD box set. Minear has a reasonable fanbase. They don't, like, watch his shows or anything, but they do buy them.

Hey Marc, have networks always been very impatient with shows? (Most shows that start off poorly don't get a chance to run a season or two to see how it does and are instead cancelled).

too bad, last week's episode, while paling in comparison to some of the series' best, was certainly a high point for this terrible year. well, i'll catch up sometime...
seriously, WTF with the Logan arc? I was so excited Jean Smart was going to be back, and she was in, like, one episode for 5 minutes.

House was doing well before Idol came along. Right around 13 to 14 million an episode with basically no lead in (Standoff barely pulled 6 million on average). House has more than enough of a fanbase on its own.

I'm curious, how did House do on it's first couple of episodes?
I believe House was not doing well until it aired after Idol. People checked it out and decided they liked it. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Not yet, but we both know they're going to get worse.
And FOX can always air movies. Its parent company owns a few, as I recall.
Good point. Several are down, but for different reasons, with different prognosis.
MIAMI - in moderately serious trouble. My opinion - the fairly weak cast has finally caught up to it.
CM & CSI NY - these are still basically very strong, with IDOL and LOST doing some damage, which net factors in.
COLD CASE - losing steam, probably headed back to 8pm Sunday where it will face less comp. Probably Fri nite material in two years if no rebound next year.
WAT - still solid, but clearly not the heavyweight it was thought to be. I also noticed that this was heavily spotlighted on TNT, and it looked like this was going to be their big dog, replacing L&O. Now I'm seeing CHARMED and L&O back in spotlight.

What is going on w/ CBS' procedurals? I thought it might just be a one-week blip, but Criminal Minds and CSI:NY were way down last week as well...

Pisher isn't expressing an informed opinion on Drive, he is expressing an 'informed' opinion on the people involved with the project based upon their past projects. The real question is why he feels the need to express it 100 times.
rather, i wonder if people are (finally!) tiring of the crime procedurals and other dark-theme-laced shows. perhaps an effect of war weariness? we saw something similar with the Friends boom post-9/11.
or... maybe after the tragic events in Virginia yesterday, a few million people opted to not watch a show about murder?
I read that 'Bones' is actually changing what episode airs this week specifically because of the Virginia Tech situation.
