Does anyone know the ratings for the Monday Night Football game last night between the Eagles and Cowboys? It was a really good game and I bet it got pretty good ratings even though it was on cable.

I think that series like SCC and Prison Break that appeal mostly to a younger audience will not survive long term. I'm at the high end of the 'desired' demo and I lost interest in both of these shows after the first season, just like I eventually lost interest in 'Alias'.
I think the 'serial' aspect of these shows is a turnoff. Viewers don't want to worry about missing an episode, only to be lost; that's the real reason CBS shows do well. People can watch them sporadically and still enjoy each episode on its own.
I watched 'Lost' the first 2 seasons, then tuned out, but am now tuning back in because I know it will conclude in a year. PB and SCC need to have the same game plan: ie, bring it to a logical conclusion.
I watched 'The Closer' finale last nite. I'm not a regular viewer of that show, but it was a good episode, and I could follow it within the span of 1 hour!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that even good shows will fail unless they have broader appeal. They might attract a core of loyal viewers involved in the complex storyline, but most people want to tune in to just be entertained for an hour.

Shows like SCC and PB have way more fans then what the numbers show… From what I’ve read, I gather that a lot of people DVR them.

Also, people like to have the episodes to go back to, so watch it live and DVR it. (Don’t know if that affects the numbers negatively)

Until they find a way to incorporate DVR viewing into the numbers that advertisers care about, we will be stuck with more and more bad TV

You mean until they find a way to make DVR users watch advertising, when in fact a major reason they are using DVR is to avoid watching advertising?

TV is getting worse BECAUSE of shows like SCC. When a pointless prequel to a lousy Ahnuld movie is considered 'quality television', that in itself tells us how badly standards have dropped. Used to be genre TV meant the original Twilight Zone. Rod Serling wouldn't be able to watch SCC for two minutes without throwing something heavy at the TV set.

Crap reality shows don't hurt scripted TV nearly as much as crap scripted shows do.

They can. Just not as big budget dramas on major networks. And not with a concept so shopworn as SCC's, and with such an unimpressive cast.

As to Prison Break, again--it should never have been an open-ended show. They should have conceived it as running one season.

But for some reason, American TV doesn't want to try telenovelas. Maybe it wouldn't work here, but they've yet to give the concept a fair chance.

Clearly sex works for GG. But how far can they go? They're just a little shy of using porn promos

As for FOX well why on Earth they've renwed TSCC?
PB deserves a proper ending, i really hope FOX will treat this show rightfully. I don't think they'll go bankrupt if they give PB a final full season.

Hey, if they'd just cut out the parts where people are talking, I'd consider watching it myself. The dialogue and plot definitely get in the way of the sex. Wink

" You mean until they find a way to make DVR users watch advertising, when in fact a major reason they are using DVR is to avoid watching advertising? "

Yep...

The fans are totally there. DVD sales and DVR numbers prove that.
I'm surprised we haven't seem more product placement in shows like SCC… The fans would cry “foul,” but I think that’s better then the alternative – cancellation after 13 episodes.

For these type of shows… I agree that they should have a plan for how long it will be on.

wow, the numbers for Gossip Girls are pretty good. I wonder why they rose so drastically out of the 2nd episode (considering the 2nd episode wasn't even very intereting by GG standards)..

As for OTH, their ratings have remained absolutely solid since last january. And I have to say, yesterday's episode was one of the best episodes of the series to date. Josh Schwartz and co. did a brilliant job handling Q's death.

As for Prison Break, the show is still entertaining but people are not watching. I just hope FOX lets Prison Break get its 22 episodes to end properly...

Great numbers for Gossip Girl and OTH. I will likely be checking out both here online.

Fox will likely let Prison Break and TSCC air their 13 episodes and then be done. There will likely be some sort of wrap up in the 13th episodes. Perhaps an extra ep or two will be needed to wrap it up but I'm guessing they'll let it happen. I also think they'll both stay on Mondays til 24 comes along just because Fox really doesn't have anything else that will do substantially better. Come midseason, Fringe and Dollhouse can share the 8pm hour and House and Bones can go back to their usual spots when Idol comes around. A new comedy can hopefully get the post-Idol results spot on Wednesdays in March as Til Death has a lot of its flow thanks to the departure of the neighbors. Hell's Kitchen and a new reality show on Thursdays with 5th Grader and Lyrics staying put on Fridays (perhaps allowing Hole or Moment of Truth to fill in here and there).

DVR undercuts the basis of commercially supported TV. And if they based a new system around it, shows like SCC would still end up going down bloody, because other shows would end up exploiting that new system better.

You, like most online fans of dumb low-rated shows are looking for a welfare system to support programs you like that most people don't want to watch. "Screw everybody else, JUST SHOW WHAT I LIKE!" And they did. And they're paying for it. And you want them to pay more. For garbage. Stupidly plotted action crap, based on a worn-out genre franchise that wasn't terribly profound to begin with.

If it was something like The Wire, I'd understand. But it's a Terminator show. And it sucks.

DVD revenue for SCC goes to WB. DVR revenue goes to the people who make DVRs. Explain to me how this helps FOX.

Yes, because you're so totally in support of quality TV. Roll Eyes

How about the alternative of shows that actually live up to their hype?

For a show like SCC, they could never make it work. Too expensive. And too pointless.

It's a failure, and it would have been a failure no matter what. It was given chances many far superior shows never got. It is long overdue for termination.

I agree with pisher about T:SCC. I tried to really get into this show. Twice. And just couldn't. To me Prison Break has actually looked like its returned to some form of quality this year but I do agree it should end this fall after 13. Don't give me the crap that producers can't wrap it up because they can. Terminator's producers just as well start some sort of wrap up too. While Fringe and Dollhouse have yet to prove they are worthy of a full season or even a decent timeslot come midseason, they are at least new shows still finding their voice and deserve a chance to become hits.

Given that Prison Break is filming episode 11 right now, I doubt they`ll patch up everything before the hiatus. If PB does not come back from the hiatus, I`ll feel screwed cause I`ve been watching since day 1, 4 years ago.
Anyway if they are not patching it until episode 13, I guess it will come back, for closure sake and DVD sales as well as contracts with international networks.

The promos are awful and lower the show. GG doesn't have sex. When it happens it's not shown. They have lots of making out, but the only sex scene ever on the show was on the pilot in flashback form.
