Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 2.49 million; A18-49: #5, 1.2/ 3), which dipped from lead-in Top Model by a hefty 2.13 million viewers and 48 percent among adults 18-49. Since serialized dramas take time to build (remember Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose), do not rule out Gossip Girl by any means. My guess is we will see a second season given the growing teen and young adult star power.
Pretty people, terrible writing. Makes for a good time with friends who like to complain about bad television.
But last night we were all shocked to ACTUALLY LIKE the show and not in the "so bad it's sorta good" way the rest of the series has been. I would be sad to see the series leave after one season if it can deliver more episodes like last night's.
Exactly how I feel.
Up until the last 2 or 3 episodes, I wrote the show off as such a joke. However lately, it's been showing some signs of "decent" writing and direction. Last night was very heavy for the series, but in a good way. I was glad to see the writers finally have Serena do more than laugh and frolic around with Dan. That shit bugged. And the Blair/Chuck juicy-ness is definitely fun. I still hate the actor who plays Dan, but otherwise, the series is kind of finding it's niche. I plan on sticking with the series for as long as The CW lets us, and I really hope more people catch on to how good it is.
ANTM-backed off the show cuz they tossed the two prettiest girls off. Cuz Nigel's a wuss. My 13 year old daughter bailed on it last night as well. Angry about Heather. She like Gossip Girls alot though, best one yet she said....

Well, on top of being as hot as a couple of blazing suns (hey, I can be shallow too) the boys on SPN can act the hell out of their parts, which I always find helpful when watching a show.
But, on to GG, I'm actually surprised by that dip. I've been hearing quite a bit about how the show is improving, and shows like this can grow if they don't completely suck and word of mouth pulls in new viewers. But it does look like PP is effecting the show more than I thought.
I've also heard that GG has improved, but one show that has improved immensely since its premiere was Private Practice. That show was dead meat in my opinion after week one and last year's 2 hour pilot special. The characters continue to get better and better and the writing has been top notch recently. Chalk up disappointing ratings to downright awful scheduling by ABC. On one week, off another. Downright dumb.

Two words: O. Ver.
-- "Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

Oh dear, mushi's still upset about the troops requesting the Supernatural DVD news. Actually, I expected no talent pretty boys when I happened up Supernatural one night when I was bored and didn't have anything else to do. It was a pleasure to find out I was mistaken. I don't know how the CW managed to snag two young people who can actually act. Hell, I'd watch the show for Jim Beaver from Deadwood alone.
As for Gossip Girl, I shouldn't be so harsh, but teen shows have never been my cup of tea. They all seem faintly One Tree Hill-ish. I'm sure GG has its fans. Problem is that they all watch via itunes. The CW had better lighten up on the 18-34 demo requirement if it wants to survive as a network. Young people don't watch live anymore. I can understand why GG was given the back nine so quickly. Who knows? It might grow like Marc says.
As for Heather: all the beauty in the world can't overcome a basic inability to interact with other human beings. Of course, now that the show has aired, the 'other human beings' will already know of her appeal, so she won't have to prove it in person at a 'go see'.
Don't forget that she got lost of hours trying to find the place and got to only one Go-See. The next time she goes to one, I'm sure she'll bring her mother or a translator who'll get out of the car to help.
Once Heather can get out from Miz Tyra's contract, I think there will be some good work available for her because she takes great photos naturally from all sides of her face and she has a bit of name recognition. If I were advising her, I'd get someone to train on her runway walk and get attached to a charity that funds research on Ausberger's Syndrome and/or Autism. Keep her face visible to the public and future employers. Also get a manager who can work with her different abilities and be at her side and instantly guilt-trip the next set of Biancas out there if they try sniping behind her back (and you know they'll be out there)
ANTM got a 25% drop in the demo from the previous week. I don't think a good protion of them will come back to a finals between two bland twigs and a bad haircut.

DSM is fading fast. It is understandable, what started as a comedy has now muted into a pure soap, this change of tone has cost the show almost 1/3 of its viewers.

I'll admit it, I was wrong. I didn't expect a huge increase in DSM (maybe a 7.2 mill instead of last week's 7.0), but with the hour's strongest player on a repeat, I didn't expect it to do worse than last week.
That's the thing about the CSI shows ... whether they're a new or a repeat episode they're still going to do really good ratings wise, which of course is a very unfortunate thing for DSM since IMO it's one of the better new shows around. I still say I'd love to say how this show performs after "GA" on Thursday or after "DH" on Sunday.

Have these people ever heard of a TV Guide?? Maybe its just me, but I don't need a promo to let me know if a show is new or a repeat ... I just look at the TV Guide. A promo to me is only helpful to me in that it gives previews of the episode.
Actually, I didn't realize that people still used TV Guides. The networks change up programming so much that most of the time, the TV Guide is inaccurate and outdated. Especially the past few months with the strike and all.
I let my DVR tell me if the show is new or not, but I know thats not the norm - yet.

Exactly. She lost the challenge because she couldn't walk up to people on the street and ask for help. Do you watch The Amazing Race? About 50% of the teams that get eliminated on that race do so for the simple reason that they were not able to quickly/comfortably walk up to strangers. As for heather taking her mom along with her on 'go sees': I think bringing mom along on job interviews is a good way for a person to remain unemployed.

I'm not a big fan of the medical naming of everything as 'an illness'. There is a massive increase in the number of Autistic people in this country. I do not believe any such actual increase exists, just an increase in diagnosis. As for the Ausberger Syndrome: it is just 'poor social skills' or 'social anxiety' or whatever new name you want to give it. You are correct in thinking that carrying the torch for such a group could be quite profitable for her. The Lupus' model from season 2(?) did quite well in that regard.

I doubt ANTM will set a ratings record with this season's finale becasue there are some viewers that will not watch for the simple reason that their horse is no longer in the race. However, the ratings will be back over 5.5million (probably 6million) because people really do want to find out who wins the whole thing. The outdoor 'runway' venue in China looks interesting as well.

I do ... I use that and the on-screen cable guide through On Demand.
Mark, please, you normally make sensible sound bites---your GG observation is piss poor. 2 1/2 million viewers and a 50% retention rate in my book equals oblivion.

Isn't it funny how TV-Guide has become a generic term (like Kleenex), yet some people still take it literally? To a lesser extent, when you tell someone that you 'recorded' last night's TV show, some people still equate that with the literal VCR tape style recording.
