Why does the "people will respond if there's something worth watching" excuse used on Saturdays not get applied here? Bones was getting decent numbers in the slot as late as last year...the nets just have a bunch of junk in this slot.

Have we really lowered our expectations that low that we are praising 2.4 demos ? Let's be honest, these two sitcoms are so unlike any CBS sitcoms seen before. Their numbers are so low it is just not like any other CBS shows. I'll make a bet next week when The Middle returns Gary drops about .2 in the demo.
Given this time slot and the way TV has fallen, its not totally out of the picture to say a 2.4 is an alright number. Its not great by any means though, especially on CBS. If it were ABC, I'd say good, given their comedy history as of late. Ditto for Fox. For NBC it would be a monster hit lol.
Wow at the CMA's! Those ratings are really good and the CMA's are very consistent. I've never really thought of country music as "mainstream" but apparently it is!
Ouch for Mercy although apparently it's doing better than Knight Rider... maybe it can rebound when there is regular competition from ABC. Does anyone else think L&O SVU can hit an 3 in the demo later on in the season? I think so and amazingly if that happens, it'll still probably be fourth in the timeslot!
Glee is still chugging along strongly although I didn't really like that whole "special episode" thing they had going on. I loved their version of "Defying Gravity" though. Still surprising that SYTYCO is in the low 2's.
Very decent ratings for CBS. Shocker! CSI:NY beat Criminal Minds in the ratings! It seemed like only Criminal Minds took a hit for CBS.
The series will premiere with a two-hour pilot that is already available as a standalone DVD. Eight additional hours of “Caprica” will air through March. Then the show will take a break and the remaining nine hours of “Caprica’s” first season will air some time in the second half of 2010.
If you’ve done the math in the previous paragraph, you’ve realized that “Caprica’s” episode order has been reduced by one hour. Syfy had originally commissioned a total of 20 hours for Season 1, but the show, which is currently in production on the last third of the season in Vancouver, will now consist of 19 hours.
Personally I hope that CBS doesn't make the same mistake and put criminal minds after the superbowl which was a huge mistake -- I hope they correct that mistake and give that slot to How I met your mother, it did after all get nominated for best comedy and deserves to be seen by a wider audience. But if they must go with another show, I would go with survivor, which also needs a boost. Big Bang and mentalist don't need the boost and criminal minds got zero benefit from the super bowl slot.
Edward norton and elizabeth banks are on modern family this coming wed.
I love Adventures of old christine, if it actually had a lead in, it would do better, so I think it's doing respectable. I still wish that CBS would just give the show to ABC. This show deserves to be seen by a wider audience and get more promotion.
I think the biggest problem with Leno is that it doesn't feel like the same show -- can't they bring back the same theme music? Can't they actually have guests?
The problem with CBS Sundays is the football overrun is always going to cause havoc on their schedule. It's going to be hard for them to get any traction going, especially in the fall, when their shows start at a different time almost every week.

CBS Sundays are in really bad shape. I don't think there will be a 2nd edition of TAR this season, and CC & 3R are tanking in the ratings. Placng ANOTHER mediocrre crime show in there s not going to cut it. CBS needs to totally revamp the night and Comedies at 8pm would be great counter programming.
The crossover really helped CSI: NY. I think with CM, the fact that they are going to get a spinoff show should pump in some new interest into the original. In fact, I would the CM spinoff an hour before the CM parent show to create that flow.

Just a quick snippet about the Criminal Minds spinoff from TV Guide Magazine: STARS SAY SPIN-OFF IS CRIMINAL A.J. Cook - "We're not jumping up and down for it. We're a little jealous. It's typical actor behavior: 'look at me!' We feel a little threatened. Are they going to take some stories away from us? We don't want them to put their energy on anyone but us."
Thomas Gibson - "I was operating under the impression that we were the only ones. We were it - that's what made us special. But a spin-off suggests that another BAU unit exists. Whatever this other show is, it's not going to be our show."

I completely agree. Some nights its very good (I loved Dolly Parton just a few minutes ago!), but some nights they do the worst bits and have the worst guests. They need to desperately get some bigger names, returning the old theme music (maybe even getting John Melendez back) would be a step up, and getting more musical guests and dropping the unfunny bits is what they need to do.

From your lips to God's ear, Marc!
If I was a betting woman, I'd say Jay Leno is on at 10 for all of this season and next. Unless Comcast can figure out a way to breach his contract. However, if everything I've read comes to pass, Comcast will sell off the network and the O&Os and Leno stays as is. Of course, Lil Jeffie will be gone, which can only be to NBC's (the network's) benefit.

That would be my first guess for dramas. But, I'm really leaning towards Survivor now. 20th season, All-Stars edition, and declining ratings - the Superbowl could be the thing to jumpstart the franchise once again. And, with the All-Stars edition, airing the premiere after the Superbowl could get old and new viewers to stick around. It worked before, so it'll probably work again.

I wouldn't place the CM spinoff before the original. It would undermine the 2 seasons of underpar ratings CBS has been taking to develop a new comedy hour. I would say Sundays to pump up some interest on Sunday but the football overrun could be very bad for it.

Very well said!
Not so fast. I saw some research earlier this week that showed that neither ABC nor CBS has been able to capitalize on Leno coming in at 10. Which is something that you'd think they'd have been able to do if their programming was all that good. A fairly sizable chunk of the previous viewing audience has vanished and no one can say with any certainty where it's gone. Maybe to cable, maybe turned off the set, nobody seems to know at this point. And this comes when Nielsen is reporting TV viewing at historically high viewing levels.
