I had to double check who was writing this post. I thought for sure it was WelcomeToK-VilleAmericanGaldiators.

How did this show get picked up based on THAT pilot? It was almost like they went out of their way to assemble a cast in which literally every single actor has zero chemistry with the others. Production values were bargain basement, to boot. Looked like something you'd find on ABC Family.

They passed over something like 11 comedy pilots in favor of it. You just know most of them were better. They had to be.

Riff, I always enjoy your blunt and often spot on analysis. Thank-you for keeping me away from what is bound to be a flop.

Hamburg has co-written funny films -- "Meet the Parents" and the sequel -- but you wouldn't know it from watching this. My guess is he was victim of a $100 budget and way too many network notes. The saddest thing about it is that I've been rooting for CBS to put a single-cam sitcom on -- this is their first in 7 years -- and I know when the CBS bean counters pull the plug, they're gonna say, "See? Nobody wants to watch a one-camera sitcom."

Still, Raquel Welch looks great for her age. I never would have believed she's 42!

My first guess would be The Office. NBC needs the show be a mainstream hit and average over 10 million per episode.

NBC seems to be taking the Lipstick Jungle promos in a completely different direction than the CM promos, which is probably a good idea. Cashmere Mafia promos made it look upbeat, sassy, soapy. These are going for downbeat, realistic, relatable. It may not work, but I think distancing themselves from the identical show that already flopped isn't a bad idea.

Thanks for ruining all the suspense. Not only has the show not started for those on the west coast, but don't you think in this DVR age some people record and view later?

This is NBC. A move like that would be on par with their recent 'intelligence'.

1) FNL will not be on the air next season

2) If it was still a series, it would pull an all time ratings low for a post Super Bowl show.

Not even NBC is that stupid. Anywasy FNL should be gone by then

Judging by recent comments from "hotshot" exec Ben Silverman, Friday Night Lights is so last year and 30 Rock is the "best show on TV". Blah blah blah, too bad only 5 million agree with that statement. Of course, 5 million people watch According to Jim too so put it into perspective.
No, AtJ can actually get 6 million viewers for an episode.

I agree. Why penalize a show just because its fans don't feel the need to watch the same episodes over and over again?
Repeat ability is a strenght or weakness of a show and should be reflected in the data.

Just because the folks who watch the gore of CSI like to view it 8 times does not make that show better than those who view Greys Anatomy once and then decide to either watch something else or find something better to do with their time the second time around. I'm not saying to do away with repeats but lets keep the numbers seperate. Why someone or some show should be expected to keep viewers in repeats to be considered strong is beyond me. Everyone knows that repeat numbers are only part of the story today with the DVD sales.
Its not about Quality of a show, but ratings strength of a show.

CSI is more valuable, because of its strong repeatability, than Grey's. Both are the Big Guns, but ABC can only get 22 weeks from Grey's. CBS gets about 49 weeks from CSI.

Thanks. Did not mean to sound harsh, but I always watch DOND with my son, and being that it was not on until 9:30 tonight, I was DVRing it to watch tomorrow.

The Captain wasn't bad, it just easn't funny... at all.

I got the feeling that this was a good concept and good characters, perhaps even cast well, but the comedy was never there.

It was like they started the set up, but had no idea how to give the punch.

Needless to say, I will not Welcome the Captain again.

Bring Back Big Bang Theory ASAP.

If I recall, thefutoncritic gave it a horrid review. I won't be giving it a shot. Not to mention, single camera doesn't work at NBC. I bet extra 2.5 Men repeats are on the way.

The New Adventures of Old Christine wasn't too bad, but it sure was covering a lot of ground I had just been through earlier in the evening. They did one of the same jokes as on Welcome to the Captain: 'see you later...not if I see you first'. Lame. Then, the show did a lot of references to self gratification, toys, etc... that had all been done earlier in the evening on Girlfriends. Still, it was good to have The New Adventures of Old Christine back on the air.

Side note: Wanda Sykes gets all the best lines and is great with her comedic timing. It is a real shame that she cannot act at all and thus just seems to be doing skit comedy rather than playing a role. I think she could be a real star if she got the proper training.

You need to think about the current DVR trends in television. Once the Live+7 numbers come out it will top 100 million because I am sure that a lot of people taped it so that they could watch it later in the week while skipping the commercials. Wink

I just realized I was saying House got a 25.1 household rating in the initial fast nationals. My bad, it was actually a 17.5.

LOL

But, I wouldn't be surprised if there were people that DVRed the game to watch the commercials and skip through the game.

See, I told you it was the kind of move NBC would make.
