-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox, of course, led by epic proportions with its combination of Super Bowl XLII (New York Giants vs. New England Patriots) and a Sunday edition of House beating the four competing networks combined by a whopping 67.82 million viewers and 947 percent among adults 18-49! The Giants vs. Patriots match-up averaged an approximate 89.10 million viewers and a 34.8 rating/67 share among adults 18-49 from 7-10 p.m. (the 6:20-7 p.m. portion of the game was not available, which means that these results will increase). One year earlier, the Colts vs. the Bears on CBS delivered 93.18 million viewers and a 35.2/70 among adults 18-49 on Feb. 4, 2007. Keep in mind that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
The Super Bowl Post Game at 10 p.m. scored an estimated 68.32 million viewers and a 28.2/57 among adults 18-49, while the first-half of a Sunday edition of House netted 32.78 million viewers and a 14.4/34 in the demo at 10:30 p.m. Congratulations, Giants!
A 7 p.m. special, CBS Reports: Fathers, Sons & Brothers, opened the evening for the Eye net with a mere 3.37 million viewers (#2) and a 0.4/ 1 among adults 18-49 (#4). That led into a later edition of 60 Minutes, which dipped to a season-low 4.99 million viewers (#2) and a 0.8/ 2 (#3) in the demo at 8 p.m., followed by repeats of Shark (Viewers: #2, 4.25 million; A18-49: #3, 0.7/ 1) and Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 6.06 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. A repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition kicked-off the night for ABC with 3.29 million viewers (#3) and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 7 p.m., followed by a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #3, 4.17 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 2) and a repeat of theatrical Meet the Fockers (Viewers: #3, 4.12 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 3) from 8-11 p.m.
NBC filled the night with four repeat hours of The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #4, 2.30 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.8/ 2 from 7-11 p.m.). And fifth-place the CW aired CW Now (Viewers: 349,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0), a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 435,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0), Life is Wild (Viewers: 749,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 0), and a repeat of Crowned: The Mother of all Pageants (Viewers: 727,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 0). Wasn’t it odd that the CW wasted an original episode of Life is Wild opposite The Super Bowl? And how do you like that 0 share in every half hour among adults 18-49? Personally, I have never seen that happen before.
