Prime-Time Ratings:
Sunday 2/03/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 79.48 million, CBS: 4.66, ABC: 3.92, NBC: 2.30, CW: 835,000

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 31.4 rating/62 share, ABC: 1.2/ 2, CBS and NBC: 0.8/ 2 each, CW: 0.2/ 0

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Super Bowl XLII (Fox), Super Bowl XLII Post Game (Fox), House (Fox)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
CBS Reports, CW Now, 60 Minutes (CBS), Life is Wild (CW)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox, of course, led by epic proportions with its combination of Super Bowl XLII (New York Giants vs. New England Patriots) and a Sunday edition of House beating the four competing networks combined by a whopping 67.82 million viewers and 947 percent among adults 18-49! The Giants vs. Patriots match-up averaged an approximate 89.10 million viewers and a 34.8 rating/67 share among adults 18-49 from 7-10 p.m. (the 6:20-7 p.m. portion of the game was not available, which means that these results will increase). One year earlier, the Colts vs. the Bears on CBS delivered 93.18 million viewers and a 35.2/70 among adults 18-49 on Feb. 4, 2007. Keep in mind that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

The Super Bowl Post Game at 10 p.m. scored an estimated 68.32 million viewers and a 28.2/57 among adults 18-49, while the first-half of a Sunday edition of House netted 32.78 million viewers and a 14.4/34 in the demo at 10:30 p.m. Congratulations, Giants!

A 7 p.m. special, CBS Reports: Fathers, Sons & Brothers, opened the evening for the Eye net with a mere 3.37 million viewers (#2) and a 0.4/ 1 among adults 18-49 (#4). That led into a later edition of 60 Minutes, which dipped to a season-low 4.99 million viewers (#2) and a 0.8/ 2 (#3) in the demo at 8 p.m., followed by repeats of Shark (Viewers: #2, 4.25 million; A18-49: #3, 0.7/ 1) and Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 6.06 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. A repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition kicked-off the night for ABC with 3.29 million viewers (#3) and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 7 p.m., followed by a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #3, 4.17 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 2) and a repeat of theatrical Meet the Fockers (Viewers: #3, 4.12 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 3) from 8-11 p.m.

NBC filled the night with four repeat hours of The Biggest Loser (Viewers: #4, 2.30 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.8/ 2 from 7-11 p.m.). And fifth-place the CW aired CW Now (Viewers: 349,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0), a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 435,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0), Life is Wild (Viewers: 749,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 0), and a repeat of Crowned: The Mother of all Pageants (Viewers: 727,000; A18-49: 0.2/ 0). Wasn’t it odd that the CW wasted an original episode of Life is Wild opposite The Super Bowl? And how do you like that 0 share in every half hour among adults 18-49? Personally, I have never seen that happen before.

89 million is lower than I thought it would be... of course, numbers will probably increase substantially when finals are released.

Wow, House performed well below my expectations... then again, Fox spent much more time promoting Sarah Connor Chronicles than it did the post-game House. In addition, House didn't start until outside of primetime in New York City (because of the Giants' win, naturally)... and probably not until later in Boston, too. Those are two big markets.

The total average should be under 100 million, perhaps even closer to about 96-98 million

Those numbers for the SB are unrealistic. If the finals don't show a big increase is a proof the Nielsen system has a lot of flaws

House will average below 30 millions for sure.

Is it possible that this could be the lowest rated original, scripted program on network television, ever?

Wow, those numbers seem lower than I would have thought. Of course they could change a great del after the finals come out. I think the post super Bowl spot id losing some of its shine. Yes, still huge once you step back and look at it, but the days of a 50 million+ viewer Friends episodes are over.

I still bet the game will end up in the mid 90 million range whan the finals come out.

I think the game ended a few minutes after 10 PM too. I see the Super Bowl going up by a good 5-10 mil when finals are released.

My guess is that it'll end up around 97 million or so, but I had expected 100m+.

House is going to end up not all that far ahead of a regular post-Idol ep, because the ep didn't start until well into the 10:30 half hour where I was. Not a great showing, but a very strong episode IMO.

Looks like in addition to CBS, ABC also did the flipping with EM:HE at 7 and AFHV at 8. Just change the rule about in-timeslot repeats counting toward season avgs already.

True, House started at 11pm in NY. It is a shame, because the episode was the best of the year.

I agree. Why penalize a show just because its fans don't feel the need to watch the same episodes over and over again?

It will be interesting to see whether all the promotion for Sarah Connor Chronicles will bear fruit.
