Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Movie: Are We There Yet? (Fox), Duel (ABC), 20/20 (ABC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS led this second Friday of the May 2008 sweeps, with a first-place finish in every half hour in households, total viewers and adults 18-49. Next was NBC, followed ABC and the CW in a tie for the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively. American Idol-less Fox finished fifth.
Ghost Whisperer on CBS opened the evening with a typical 9.21 million viewers and a 2.3 rating/8 share among adults from 8-9 p.m., which for low HUT level Friday has to be considered a success. Second in the hour was a special edition of ABC’s 20/20, themed Secrets of Sistine (Viewers: 6.25 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 6), followed by a double repeat dose of Most Outrageous Moments on NBC (Viewers: avg. 5.02 million; A18-49: avg. 1.4/ 5), the first half of Friday Night Smackdown! on the CW (Viewers: 3.43 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 4), and the first half of theatrical Are We There Yet? on Fox (Viewers: 3.00 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 4).
On-the-fence CBS drama Moonlight also led from 9-10 p.m., with 7.92 million viewers and a 2.1/ 7 among adults 18-49. But, comparably, this is not an improvement from year-ago occupant Close to Home. And a loss of more than one million viewers from Ghost Whisperer may not bode well for renewal.
Also in the 9 p.m. hour was the first half of an expanded edition of NBC’s Dateline (Viewers: 5.65 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 5), and dud ABC game show Duel (Viewers: #3, 3.86 million; A18-49: #5, 1.0/ 3) which is waiting for the axe to officially swing. The second half of the CW’s Friday Night Smackdown! perked up to a third-place finish in total viewers (4.36 million) and adults 18-49 (1.3/ 4), averaging 3.90 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 in the demo from 8-10 p.m. While that may not sound like much, the CW is likely to lose more steam without Smackdown! next season.
The second half of theatrical Are We There Yet? on Fox scored 3.72 million viewers (#5) and a 1.1/ 4 among adults 18-49 (#4) from 9-10 p.m., averaging a weak 3.36 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 in the demo from 8-10 p.m.
CBS drama Numb3rs (Viewers: 10.21 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 7) won the 10 p.m. hour with ease, ranking first overall for the evening. Next was the second half of NBC’s Dateline (Viewers: 6.53 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6), followed by the regular edition of ABC’s 20/20 at a mere 4.04 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49. Overall, Dateline averaged 6.09 million viewers and a 1.9/ 6 in the demo from 9-11 p.m.

Excellent for Moonlight for proving stability week to week, while other shows have been dropping like stones lately. I'm very pleased, and I believe there is no doubt CBS will renew the show.
I would say it is still 50/50. Its not the young adult hit the network was hoping for.

Exactly! Everyone knows that and it has been said numerous times. Moreover, now insiders are writing about putting new shows on Friday for CBS. Moonlight is in the same boat as Shark, The Unit, and Christine. It is either mid-season or cancellation.

The target audience was NEVER young adults. This show is more geared toward adults, late 20 and 30s, as the characters themselves are in that age group. It's not Buffy, who spoke the language of teenagers and young adults.

THIS WEEK 08:00PM - 09.21, 2.3/8 GW 09:00PM - 07.92, 2.1/7 Moonlight 10:00PM - 10.21, 2.4/7 Numb3rs So even though the two shows that bookend it went up, ML still lost viewers (albeit, a small amount).
CBS will renew it if their pilot crop is utter junk. They are fairly trigger happy with the shows on this night if they don't perform. See "Joan of Arcadia" and "Close to Home" both of which beat the junk out of ML most of the time.

Oh boy, here we go again. The Moonlight bus is hopping aboard the PI and contradicting anything said opposing Moonlight.
Get ready for 20 pages of why Moonlight is the greatest.
There were 400,000 fewer viewers to the five major English-language broadcast networks last night (May 2nd) than on the previous Friday (April 25th).
If there was a similar drop in the number of people weatching various cable/satellite chanels last night, the reason why viewership was off from the previous week may be summed-up in four words: "Iron Man: The Movie".
I would think the number of young men watching TV last night was greatly reduced from the previous week, since they are "Iron Man"'s target audience.
And with the big-screen version of "Speed Racer" opening Friday (May 9th) and the newest "Narnia" film opening the following week, prime-time viewing numbers for May 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th (espeically the latter two dates) may suffer.

While ML doesn't get the ratings GW and Numbers get it does win its time period.
Yeah, look at its competition. Winning the time period when you get 8 million is nothing to be proud of.
The 9pm show is supposed to be the strongest show of the night, Moonlight is the weakest one even though it had no real competition. I think if CBS has some good Pilots for the next season they will cancel Moonlight.
Marc i think you should know you can't compare ratings from last year. because all shows are down this year because of increase from DVR and itunes etc. Moolnlights numbers are very good and amazingly steady. From here on it can only gorw over the summer and i think CBS knows that. Also the TVguide column Matt is very much counting on that CBS renews this gem.
Of course they are planning on replacing it. It is the only reason why The Mentalist is getting some mention on being a contender for the schedule. It has a strong male lead like Moonlight but is a better mixture of procedural and sci fi to better match with the GW/Numbers audience. It screams Friday show.
