I have to agree. For CBS, especially when it's up against shows like Desperate Housewives and Celebrity Apprentice, which have always gotten good demos, a 3.0 and 12-13 million viewers every week is not a bad thing at all. I don't get why it's coming under the gun this season.

But, if CBS needs strength at 9pm on Fridays, Cold Case would be a great show. My guess is most of its viewers would follow over to the slot, giving more support to Ghost Whisperer and Numbers.

I don't think Cold Cases's demos would be considered bad except for the fact that it almost always places 3rd to 4th against its competition. DH, CA and Fox Animation always have higher demos. It's also squanders the advantage of the football overruns.

Households of Whedon: 'Dollhouse' vs. 'Buffy', 'Angel' & 'Firefly'

After 5 episodes broadcast, 'Dollhouse' is continuing its trend to steadily hold most (90%) of the 'Buffy' households from twelve years ago, but hasn't been able to grow that number.

This week, I've added The WB's 'Angel' and FOX's 'Firefly' to the comparison, the make the "Households of Whedon" measure more complete.

While 'Dollhouse' lags behind the first 5 of 'Angel' (tracking 68% of 'Angel's households average), 'Dollhouse' is tracking better against 'Firefly' tracking at 79% of households and 84% of viewers. Once you add in the DVR viewing, the first two episodes of 'Dollhouse' (averaging 5,522,000) are tracking at 94% of 'Firefly's' viewership (5,850,000). However, while 'Firefly' was declining, 'Dollhouse' is performing much steadier.

'Dollhouse', Fridays at 9:00 pm on FOX

This is very off topic and I'm truly sorry but I've asked this question on boards for Ghost Whisperer and nobody responds so here goes :
Is Jim in Sam's body ? I heard where the actor portraying Sam will NOT be back next year but that David Conrad is returning so how is Jim going to be Jim again ? I'm very confused on all this so any information would be nice !!

Honestly, I think Numb3rs should be dumped this year. Everybody here seems to say the 9pm hour needs a new show (which I agree) so that Numb3rs ratings go up. It seems like Numb3rs always relies on its lead in and doesnt have its own audience.

CBS is in an interesting position. They have a lot of shows that are nearing their end with maybe 2 more seasons max on the way. Stuff like Numb3rs, Cold Case, Without a Trace, and possibly even CSI:NY and Ghost Whisperer are on the downhill slide to eventual cancellation. It will be interesting to me to see how the network plays this all out. A move to Friday for Cold Case next year is the first step. Its a show that probably still has some creative juice in it but simply skews to old on Sundays to work there any longer. It would however, be the perfect 9pm Friday show to fit in between GW and Numb3rs. Flashpoint, in my opinion, would probably do better after one of CBS's edgier shows like Criminal Minds, CSI, or even the Amazing Race. In fact, my push for CBS next fall on Sundays (since they don't seem to want to move the comedies on Wed.) is to put the NCIS spinoff Sunday at 8, TAR at 9 (so it resemebles CBS Tuesdays of a few years ago) and Flashpoint or a new non-crime drama on Tuesdays at 10.

Marc, I totally agree on the 9pm hour for CBS and there will be a change I'm sure, but at some point doesn't NUMBERS have to come under the microscope a bit, too?

It is opposing virtually nothing. It was one thing when L&O was in this hour a few years ago. This has been on the air for 5 years. It's not a secret. It also reaches 100 eps this year.

That said, it will probably get renewed but I wouldn't be shocked with a partial order and a likely try out of a new show in the spring, much like NUMBERS entered the TV world 4 years ago.

Fantastic news for Friday Night Lights fans (such as myself).

I presume that this means, in some way, the partnership worked between NBC and DirecTV as we previously discussed a few weeks ago.

'Friday Night Lights', NBC's Sturdy Friday Performer

Gratifying to see that rumoured-to-be-renewed 'Friday Night Lights' got a season high in viewership last night.

This low-license-fee series (thanks to partnering arrangement with DirecTV) has been a steady performer, except when A18-34 distracting events occurred (i.e. the WATCHMEN debut, the 'Dollhouse' preem).

With FNL looking hopeful for seasons 4 and 5, is it too much to wish for a DirecTV financial partnership to save some of NBC's other quality-distinguished, saved-by-DVRers series: 'Lipstick Jungle', 'Life' and Orville Reddenbacher sponsored 'Crusoe' (already financed for a second season)?

I think that Cold Case and Without a Trace being
in danger of getting canceled have more to do with scare tactics to get the budget trimmed than really canceling them because of the ratings. Sure WaT isn't the powerhouse it was once, too many schedule changing and focusing only on the Jack and Sam characters is damaging the show but it still does good in the ratings and without L&O:SUV on the schedule next season, WaT should do better.

As for Cold Case it is doing okay, the Unit should really be the show that gets cancel, its ratings are simply not good enough, not even for Friday. Cold Case must be expensive, music right and I read that the star of the show is the highest paid actress on TV.

So if you consider all of this and the fact that CBS did ask to cut the budget on all their shows, even went as far as asking the actors to let go of their annual raise in order to keep some staff employed then saying that WaT and Cold Case could be cancel make more sense knowing about the budget cost cutting than those shows getting the boot because of their ratings.

Did you not watch last nights episode? They dealt as much as they could in the last 5 mins.

Yes, Jim is still in Sam's body.
Jim is Jim not by his outer appearance, because that will forever more be Sam, but rather by his spirit/soul/memories that are now completely in control. Sam's memories are completely gone after he experienced another near death experience in the water while trying to save Mel in the sewers, allowing Jim's to resurface from unconsciousness. Jim only remembers every before he took over Sam's body but everything afterwords till he came back are scrubbed clean, as in why Mel had to show him his new appearance at the end.

I hope that helped.

Just looking at the demo, it isn't unacceptable. However, considering the scripted dramas cost and the fact that it can't make money off DVDs because of the music issue, it looks less desirable. CBS is also doing a rehaul of Sunday and the two most likely spots being re-examined is 9 PM and 10 PM.

I think you just nailed why Cold Case will never make a Friday schedule. Every week it comes up, but for all of the factors mentioned below, unless they do a gigantic overhaul, get rid of all the music (a core part of the show), and practically fire all of the supporting cast, it will never make it on a cost effective Friday plan. Add to the fact that they can't make any money off DVDs because of the music licensing issue, and it's a mess.

What can make it? Eleventh Hour. My guess is if any drama gets the Friday spot, that would be first in line.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the ABC Friday lineup stay as it is now. Supermanny just got sent to series, so that makes me think that ABC at least sees some value in Supernanny. Ratings aren't that bad overall. Wife Swap is the weakest link, but it faces lower viewership levels at 8 PM.

If ABC does change it, I think the likely scenario would be UB followed by two half hour comedies followed by 20/20. If this happens, I would keep Wife Swap/Supernanny/Supermanny and make a Saturday mid-season schedule with it to get rid of all of the Saturday movies and repeats that continually bring in low ratings. ABC can do much better than that.

While Supernanny deserves props for continuing to build out of Wife Swap, Wife Swap is just not capable of anchoring the evening. And both hours might be better off as fill-ins (and not regularly scheduled occupants). Note to ABC: Why not raid corporate cousin Disney Channel’s programming closet and set up a night of kids and tween driven comedies? Remember T.G.I.F.?
