Wouldn't it be great to see CBS ad another 2 hour block somewhere on the 2008-09 Schedule?

Lets hope (1) that the Monday Night Block continues to post great, above average numbers for the rest of the season. (2) That CBS has a good crop of comedies in development that marit it to green light 2-3, on top of the existing 5 comedies.

All the comedies hit season high demo numbers aside from TNAoOC. If any sitcom gets axed (or delayed to midseason), that will be the one. RoE is more compatible with 2&1/2men.

Well CBS is going to add at least one new comedy next fall so I'm guessing both will survive.

Other than when they moved King of queens to wednesdays a few years ago I cant remember the last time a CBS comedy block did well on another night other than Monday. Remember when they tried a friday night block with Designing women and golden palace? or moved Murphy Brown to wednesdays? It has to be at least 20 years since they had success on another night.

I agree that New Amsterdam is being hurt by the horrible lead-in. BTW, did that horrible lead-in have a timeslot runover? I tuned in for New Amsterdam and had to sit through the last minute or so of Canterberry's Law. If FOX is willing to look at New Amsterdam for renewal as a Friday night show, it might have a shot. However, if they want to renew it for Mondays, they seem to have several better options already. New Amsterdam simply isn't getting much audience even though it is an entertaining show.

Shouldn't the AUDIENCE be allowed to determine what's entertaining or not? There isn't a single show on TV SOMEBODY doesn't think is entertaining. But for most people, NA is dull, and SCC is dull, and that's why the audiences for those shows have fallen so quickly--SCC in particular.

And nice eyeroll in your post responding to me--but looking at how SCC did, when the final two hours aired on Monday--

FOX
8:00PM TERMINATOR: SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES 4.7/7, 7.75, 3.0/8, 3.5/9
9:00PM TERMINATOR: SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES 5.0/7, 8.29, 3.3/8, 3.8/9

Yeah, SCC did better in the demo--and considering the way FOX kept boosting it, it should have done twice as well. With such an old-skewing show as CL as its lead-in, NA actually does get some credit for significantly building on the demo. It's delivering more on its investment than SCC.

But honestly, neither show has much of a future. And if you were looking at how things are, instead of how you think they ought to be.......Roll Eyes

Marc, what does it take for you to acknowledge Medium as a winner, in any way? For months, you've been carping about how it should be easily beating CSI:Miami since it's in repeats. Yet, it has been consistently winning the 18-49 demo against CSI:M. And now when it does win the household, (and finish second in the demo for the first time in weeks) you still won't give it any credit.
You can't say that it didn't hold it's lead-in from Deal or No Deal, because it showed only a modest (and I mean MODEST) drop in retention. It actually outperformed DoND in the demo, so what's yer beef with it now?

Yes, I also find it interesting that Marc gives BBT and HIMYM Honorable Mention, yet DOND, which was up against powerhouse competition in 2 1/2 Men and DWTS yet still managed 10 million viewers gets nothing. Plus DOND had a horrible lead in.

And Medium has shown solid growth for both Monday 10PM timeslot for NBC and for Medium itself from last years timeslot, but marc never mentions that, only that Medium should be doing better.

Not to say that the CBS comedies mentioned don't deserve praise, because they probably do. But Marc is simply unforgiving when it comes to NBC.

It is simply time for us all to come to the realization that Marc does not like NBC, so his analysis when it comes to NBC is worthless.

I don't think that it would be great, because it doesn't do well with comedies on other nights. I don't think any one of those comedies can do well if it's on it's own. I say keep the cbs lineup as is -- this is actually the best comedy night on television --- what nbc's must see tv used to be.

CBS needed a good night, and the comedies delivered.

As I have mentioned in the CBS 2008 Fall Schedule thread, i think CBS should do a 2hour comedy block from 8-10 on Sundays, with Cold Case on at 10. And put Amazing Race on Mondays at 8. AR could do better than 10 million and improve the demo for the timeslot. AR does not belong in a time slot where in the fall half the time it will be delayed due to football.

This would give CBS 1 extra hour of comedy per week. And during football season they could simply preempt one of the comedies to avoid delays in the schedule when they have a late football game. I see no reason why BBT and HIMYM could not perform at similar levels to their Monday performances on Sundays. I would be a little nervous putting Christine on its own without 2 1/2 Men, but it might work.

Something like this:

SUNDAY
7PM - 60 Minutes
(Remember the days when CBS had a full Sunday night comedy block?)
8PM - Big Bang Theory
8:30 - HIMYM or some other comedy
9PM - Christine
9:30 - New comedy
10PM - Cold Case

MONDAY
8PM - Amazing Race
9PM - 2 1/2 Men
9:30 - Rules of Engagement
10PM - CSI Miami

Surely SCC "should" have averaged 16m viewers and over 6.0 in the demo, that's totally realistic for a new show on FOX with PB as lead-in. Roll Eyes
Take your own advice:

NA is at 2.3 in the demo and falling, after getting the AI lead-in twice. It is much worse than SCC, and for only the fourth episode.

Switching BBT and HIMYM helped both of them last night.

Response to above: I would place AR Wednesdays at 8 since nothing else has really worked there. I don't think BBT is a good fit out of 60 Minutes, so Sunday at 8 is a bad idea. Although if you have just one hour of comedies on Sunday, what's at 9?

Amen. The only "positive" is that this airing didn't loose 25% of the audience from the previous week's episode.

As for Canterbury’s Law, percentage wise, it didn't loose as much as New Amsterdam did between episodes WITH the ratings titian American Idol as a lead in.

Don't get me wrong, I doubt both shows will be back and that's fine with me. More available slots of JJ Abram's Fringe and Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.
