What do you all make of the fact that ABC's Primetime did way better than CBS's 48 Hrs.? How much is retention from "Dancing" and how much does it have to do with CBS's perennial third-place finish in newscasts?
the house breakdown is odd! you'd expect it to be stronger in the first half-hour, and then some idol viewers might flip away (which, obviously 10K did... but that's nothing... and the show increased in demo). go house!

The fact that the ratings for watching shows "live" only are still such a huge factor in determining a show's longevity is really a mystery to me.... With DVR's and Downloads, I would think a longer term plan to determine how to continue to make a profit and utilize a measurement strategy for these would be something in their project plans.

I think your question is also the answer.

Thanks! By the way: My "conditioning" is always to turn to ABC News when there's something the networks still cover. That goes back to Peter Jennings days. (But I'm sure you all do so NOT care about what news programs I watch.)
The networks will need to work with DVR providers to disable the FF feature during commercials. Or else it will kill the broadcast industry.

I actually dont use the nets for my news. I'll hit FOX News or CNN for my info, but I usually check the internet 1st.
well, x, it's clear the networks do take other data into consideration (otherwise you wouldn't have ABC touting Lost's Live+7 data)... but advertisers are still in the "Live or Live+SD only" mood... and that's their prerogative. Until a time comes that advertisers are truly sponsoring programming and are getting their media message across through all platforms, advertisers on the broadcast networks shouldn't be forced to care what a program is doing on other platforms they have no stake in.

I think a more realistic approach would be for a higher premium to be paid for each show recorded so that the networks get a kickback. In turn, the shows could be recorded without any commercials at all.

The question is how many days after it airs live should it count? Obviously ads for things like the premiere of a movie, a special deal for dominoes, etc. have no use after a certain period of time. While a regular ad for Sierra Mist can still be effective for quite some time as long as Sierra Mist is still around.

How would you monitor and collect on that? You can have a DVR without a Cable or Sat. service.

Know how I watch a DVRed program, and if I was an advertiser, I would only accept LIVE data. Even with Live+SD, the commercials are being skipped.
who hosted CBS' show? If it was Katie, that would explain it.

Keep that up and Shark will start drinking Dr. Pepper and wearing Depends...
You would only offer the commercial free eps to through cable/satellite.
