TV land is a changing. Who ever can keep up, will be the winner.
Soon, Ratings info may be a thing of the past and it all comes down to Downloads (Apple's iTV).
The Next 10 years should be interesting.

ABC didn't deliberately place BL there to be a DWTS lead-out...it just worked out that way. DWTS is the show that gets moved around...especially this time, to avoid the Idol juggernaut. In the fall, it only ran until 9:30 instead of 10:00 most weeks. But this time, ABC didn't want to take a chance putting any portion of DWTS in the 8:00 hour.

Second was a repeat of NBC’s aging Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: 8.32 million; A18-49: 2.3/ 7), followed by CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery, also focused on Virginia Tech, with 6.49 million viewers and a 2.2/ 6 in the demo.
This proves what I've been saying all along: neither The Batchelor (which I cannot watch) nor Boston Legal (which I like) are good lead-outs for Dancing performance/results shows, as this Primetime special beat them both. Yes, it was on a high profile event, but so was competing 48 Hours mystery, and that faultered badly. If Primetime can get 11.5 million viewers and, even more impressively, a 3.6 in the demo (from a 4.1 for DWTS), the right scripted or reality show, or even a newsmagazine, from the looks of it, would be better options that the lead-outs ABC now has.
I am not recommending they move BL from Tuesdays @ 10pm -- I think that's a perfect time fot it. But DWTS: Results doesn't have to be Tuesdays @ 9pm. Yes, they don't want to face AI on Tues @ 8pm, but who says results have to be the day after the performance? Wednesday @ 8pm are wide open, and DWTS dominated that timeslot in the Fall. I have been saying all along that DWTS should be Wed @ 8pm, followed by LOST @ 9pm, with a new show (preferably Traveler) at 10pm Wednesdays. The only complication is that dancers wouldn't know for an extra day who is eliminated, but that doesn't mean they have to wait to start training for the next dance until they know for sure they're still in. In fact, my guess is most, especially the favorites, train on multiple dance styles throughout the season in order to stay on top of things... So yes, keep BL Tues @ 10pm, but the DWTS: Results could dominate Wed @ 8pm, and help out LOST as a lead-in.
I don't love to pick on NBC...that's not true at all. If the ratings were better I would say so. As for Dateline, my labels are based on the numbers only, not the content. But I understand where you are coming from with that. I didn't label 48 Hours Mystery a loser, so maybe I should have given Dateline a break.

I had no idea Gilmore Girls was new last night. Meanwhile, in my one hour of watching the CW last night, I saw two promos for Veronica Mars' return in 2 weeks. What was it I always hear about how the network never promotes the show?
That would actually be a good move for ABC. So the chances of it ever happening is about ZERO.

I heard this morning that "Idol" was outdrawn in the household ratings here in Chicago by "Dancing", 23 to 22 share. Not sure if Sanjaya is to blame, but his hanging around sure is hurting the program's credibility. (Pass the earplugs.)
If we had the DWTS results 2 days later, people would forget - or just not bother tuning in. This idea certainly doesn't seem like a bad one, but I would be surprised to ever see it happen.
I think we have a better chance of seeing another season of Day Break before that!

I am hoping we have ABC reps lurking here and they get an inspiration from us and do the smart thing... But you're right, chances are: zero!
I truly believe that the free downloads have had a huge impact on the ratings of once red-hot shows. I guarantee you if they were not available these shows would probably be doing better.

I liked Daybreak -- horrible ratings, but a smart show. I'm still hoping they show the rest of the episodes: I'm not yet into the web downloads. I don't care if it's Saturdays @ 10pm in mid July, just air it somewhere! :P
Networks also argue that free downloads help ratings.
Personally, I did not watch the first 6 episodes of Lost last fall. Then I downloaded them in January - watched them all - and now I haven't missed an episode since it returned on Feb 7! And I mean actually watching it live - not Tivo.

I agree -- I fact, I could trace almost immediate losses of multiple millions of viewers last season for ABC after they starting having LOST, DH, Alias, Commander in Chief, and Invasion on for free downloads. In the case of the last two, it cost them a second season. I just heard this morning an industry guy lamenting about how ABC treated LOST and Commander in Chief, with the constant time changes and then yanking the latter...
I think you made a mistake with the retention percent of House. According to my calculations the viewer retention is 87%, higher than the 79% you stated.
Also looks like Pussycats had their highest amount of viewers in the Tuesday slot. Weren't all episodes on Tuesday below three million.
