Old Christine and Gary Unmarried are "Tough Competition?"
They are after thought viewing, at best. They only get semi-decent numbers when there is absolutrly nothing else on.
I see the ABC Comedies winning this battle in the fall.
I do too, at least initially, but there were several times this past season where Christine and Gary were the funniest two comedies on CBS. God knows it isn't male slut Charlie Sheen and many times the BBT and HIMYM were dull (especially in the spring for some reason). CBS was dumb for not trying comedies in another time period. They have no history of successful comedies here and they're not about to make any. If Moonves pulls his head out of his rear end anytime soon, he'll move the NCIS spinoff here and try the comedies on Sundays with TAR and Cold Case. The Mentalist could then stay put on Tuesdays and Three Rivers could be after CSI (where ER aired for years).
The key word you are missing is "tough" and OC and GU are nothing close to being Tough Comeptitions.
And if GU and OC were as funny as you claim they are, audiences would have found the shows and started watching them. The 3 returning Monday comedies are the funnest on TV right now. The office is in there too, then there is everything else.... crap.
ABC should do very, very well with the new Wednesday comedy block, leaving ther CBS "sitcoms" eating dust.
I would bet their average is below that. When ANYTHING else decent was on, they usually dropped to the 5-6 million range and a 1.4-1.8 demo. Nothing "Tough" about that.

Even if that is the case, and ABC dominates CBS, they still have NBC to worry about. The assumption here is that ABC is going to pull in all these new viewers with their new comedies. NBC has a new show entry with an even higher profile cast. Right now the new viewers could easily pick NBC, leaving CBS and ABC in the dust. It's not really ABC vs. CBS, it's ABC vs. CBS vs. NBC.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top on Wednesdays. ABC should win unless people don't like their shows. Quality is in the eyes of the beholder. I find the Office to be stupid most weeks. 2.5 Men is the same stuff every week. Charlie sleeps with hooker. Hooker becomes attached. Haha Charlie has hard time losing hooker. I'll pass thanks. BBT and HIMYM did not have as good of seasons this year in my opinion. HIMYM was to worried hiding pregnancies. BBT focused too much at times on Sheldon vs. Penny and made Leonard into a one-line punching bag. Not that either show didn't have their moments, because most weeks they did, but I really enjoyed Gary Unmarried and Christine and I still think Gary Unmarried deserves a chance post 2.5 Men instead of BBT. What a waste.
Remind me again. Do ad buyers pay more based on the actual number or the percentage of the numbers?

All I said is that it wouldn't make as much in first-run as CSI did at its peak because you know, the demo isn't any where close to what CSI was pulling at its peak and seeing how older skewing it was this year (despite decent overall demo numbers) it won't make the kind of money that Greys Anatomy is. 17 million viewers is great but a 3.7 or 3.8 demo when you have that many viewers is kind of disappointing. Lots of "worthless to advertisers" viewers.

That's what I'm thinking too. Initially, ABC is going to really struggle at 8 PM. Hank isn't that appealing and The Middle is going to have their audience split by Parenthood and Gary Unmarried as they all have comedic family storylines. 9 PM should be stronger, but hampered by strong CBS and NBC competition and Glee on FOX which will pull potential audiences away from ABC. 10 PM with Eastwick will likely be changed by mid-season. Wednesday will show some improvements, particularly at 9 to 10 PM, but still be one of ABC's weaker nights.

Originally posted by mushu_jj: Meh. Most of the shows I watch are watched by others but yes, I do take quality over quantity at times. I actually don't care too much about SW but thought it would be interesting had it returned revamped HIMYM-style. As for Pushing Daisies, I proudly will watch the final episode probably today. The show maybe was too niche for TV, but I still think the acting and writing is some of the best I've seen in a long time.
By "Niche", do you mean "Awful"?
Meh I understand its too complicated for you Colts fans. People like trash. It's why 12 million watch slasher porn on CBS every Wed. at 9.
Yea, us COLTS fans don't know anything about quality. (6 straigh seasons of 12+ wins, Always making the playoffs, Super Bowl Win).
BTW, How are the Vikings "quality" history been? They have how many SB wins????
It is soo funny hearing you guys describe Criminal Minds as Slasher Porn. That is SPIN that even dumont would laugh at.
If I was ABC, I'd focus on two things this summer: the Wed. comedy block as a whole this fall and Flash Forward. I'd also swap B&S (which doesn't need any more nurturing after Housewives) with Eastwick so at least Eastwick has a lead in going for it. B&S should do 8 million and a 2.5 demo on its own on Wednesdays, which would be a solid improvement.

The Wednesday 8pm timeslot is 'tough competition' only in the sense that it is tough to get viewers to watch anything in that hours. People are creatures of habit and Wednesday 8pm must be laundry time or PTA meetings or soccer games or shopping or...

I know that you were the main champion here for Back to You, but the show failed and I would not be surprised to see the two Wednesday ABC comedies fail as well. Grammer isn't likely to find success again unless he can change his formula and Heaton just isn't funny at all.

After watching that post-Superbowl episode, I can correctly describe Criminal Minds as slasher porn. Tons of sexed up killing. CSI is really good at it as well. 2 hot women and a hot man dancing in a club. Ooo lets go upstairs for some fun time. Insert 30 seconds of the three-some. Flash forward 5 hours- someone is dead! Oh my! God help us! Call the overdramatic "actors" from CSI! Insert classic rock music intro.
Who are you? Who Who Who Who?- best part of the show
Agreed TV. Vlis, they pull the eps after a few weeks. You'll have to wait until later this summer or just search 90210 season finale. I'm sure you'll find it.
