I find it humorous that TV-aholic is bashing Earl and bragging about how well Criminal Minds did when Earl only lost to Criminal Minds by 0.2 in the demo.

Not bashing Earl, just pointing out how low NBC has fallen.
However, I have officially given up on the show. Bones Bumps it out of the DVR rotation.

Now I just have to figure out how to Get Hells Kitchen in with The Office and CSI at the 9pm hour. HK may be my first, regular series I watch ONLY online Frowner

I think comparing a repeat to an original is a pointless comparison because in practice, networks don't do that. Repeats are always going to be lower. Add it to comparing different networks in different situations, and the comparison gets even more difficult.

But even in this case, MNIE didn't dip below 4 million or below CW's original Smallville. So are you just discussing the soon to be cancelled Kath and Kim? Also, Ugly Betty fits that criteria of a repeat under 4, yet you left this out. So it is just NBC you are critiquing, while leaving other networks out of the critique?

I didn't expect that for CSI, really didn't expect it. But then again i didn't expect such great writing. The way they are introducing the new character is outstanding.

A repeat of CM was very close in viewers to a new episode of Lost. Not bad, not bad at all

FOX Numero Uno in Week 19; CBS Grabs Second Back From ABC; Clark Kent Puts CW Back in Sixth

After four nights of Week 19, a 'Idol-House-24-Fringe-Hell's'-powered FOX is way out in front of the other nets in A18-49 with a hefty 6.65 average. CBS has taken back second place from ABC, and the Eye is averaging 2.93 in A18-49 while ABC holds third with 2.60. NBC is fourth with 2.33 (though it is expected to win the week with the Super Bowl Sunday numbers), Univision fifth with 1.83, The CW is sixth with a 0.79, and MyNetworkTV in seventh with a 0.41 average (three nights).

In viewers, FOX is leading with an average of 17,469,000 viewers, while CBS is second, NBC is third, ABC fourth, Univision fifth, The CW sixth and MyNetworkTV last.

CBS, FOX and Univision are all showing improvements over last season, while ABC, NBC, The CW and MyNetworkTV are all down from the same week last year.

1) for a show that does not normally air on thursdays at 8pm, No that 2.0 is not that bad. its nothing to write home about, but for what it is, its not bad to be #2 in the hour.

2) for Earl, almost all of its ratings are... eh. It airs on NBC and not many people watch NBC outside of The office, SVU and Biggest Loser. But it did air in its normal timeslot, but barely came in 3rd for the hour.

In todays TV world, a 1.8 for an Earl repeat is not that horrible and a 2.0 for a displaced CM is not that bad. But I do think it is bad for NBC to lose the 8pm hour to the CW, mainly because of K&K.

Lets not forget that CBS is currently tied with FOX for the 18-49 Demo lead and is 10% ahead of ABC.

Again the comparison of CM's repeat viewers in a different time slot to Lost when viewer totals don't even matter.

No, NBC is the loser. Earl helped make it "competitive".
K&K is to blame

Ah, I see. This is just one of those CBS 'viewer number' claims to brag. Sheesh, Criminal Minds beat the lowly CW by 0.3 in the demo. If Earl beating CW Network by only 0.1 makes Earl a loser, then CM is a loser as well.

Speaking of Hell's Kitchen, Jerri Manthey is supposed to be on an episode this season (as a restaurant patron/critic). Whether you love her or hate her, she is always an attention grabber on TV. I almost picked her as my persona for last season's Survivor pick'em game.

Speaking of the Survivor Pick'em game: Survivor is going to return to CBS on Thursday Feb 12th, 2009, so there isn't much time left for the people reading this message to join the Survivor game with the other people that post/read here on Marc's PIFeedback site. The game still can fit another half dozen or so players, so sign up today. You can join the game by clicking the icon below and following the instructions that take you to the survivorpickem.com website. The tribe number and password are available to you when yuo click the Survivor Tocantins logo below:

Will CBS even be ahead of NBC for the season after this weekend?

I thought this week with the help of AI, FOX pulled ahead in the 18 to 49 season demos, while CBS was way ahead of the other two. I'll have to re-examine the numbers.

I chose to comment on NBC because for 20-25 years, they owned Thursday nights. They were the Kings of the World. Now, after just a few seasons, they cant do squat. I think it is a big deal. Not unlike when the CW was Winning Friday Nights in the Summer of 2007 with Smackdown.

ABC has only had recent success on Thursdays and it has not been that long.
my comment was more of a historical Network perspective than it was about the individual shows.

Dumont,

you are our reident history person here.
What is the worst a Network has done in a season that they also aired the Super Bowl?

Has a network ever finished 3rd or 4th in the final season averages even with having the Premiere TV Event of the year?

Thanks for posting the article. Looks like FOX is about to pass up CBS and it hasn't happened yet in 18 to 49.

CBS being last in 18 to 34 isn't that shocking as it's not the demo they focus on.
