Yeah, the BIG BROTHER numbers have been lackluster due to the competition...its refleted over at TWOP board where there are sometimes only 3 pages of posts. Sometimes I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't give a damn about Simon Cowell and AMERICAN IDOL.

Still I think the summer edition will rebound to its around 8 Million numbers for later in the game. At least I hope to.

Also it would be nice if CBS put on a KID NATION 2 in the summer. It would probably get respectable ratings but there has been no word that I know of on that.

Well CSI NY is down from last year, CSI Miami is also a little down, while CSI is doing better. Overall the CSI franchise is doing just a little worse than last year, but i wouldn't say that CSI franchise is losing steam.

Overall, I think that “Big Brother: ‘til Death Do You Part” has held up reasonably well in its first (and hopefully last) foray into the regular traditional season. Thru the first eight episodes, BB9 is averaging roughly 6.06 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

Comparably, thru the first eight episodes of BB8 last summer (July – Sept.), the series averaged roughly 6.61 million viewers and a 2.5 rating in the young adults demographic.

That means that BB9 has lost only around 500,000 viewers from the summer edition of BB8 – at least thru the first eight installments. Keep in mind that BB9 has faced much stiffer competition than its summer time counterpart last year (i.e. “American Idol” on Fox and the Oscars). Given that fact, and knowing that BB never set ratings records in during its summer runs, CBS has to be relieved that the aging franchise is holding up as well as it has been.

It should be noted that BB8 aired on a Tue/Thu/Sun rotation while BB9 has shifted slightly to a Tue/Wed/Sun airing schedule.

As much as I don't like the fact that a silly show I don't particularly care for has dominated the tv landscape for the last few years, I have to admit that more than likely AI will stay above 20 million for at least 5 more years (based on its historical ratings trends), and for the bulk of that time, easily proper FOX to #1 in the demo. It would have to take a massive misstep or negative contraversy for AI to go down before that -- and if Sanjayah didn't do it, it's hard to imagine what will...

Huh? If you're doing worse, you're losing steam. Same thing.

Losing Steam???

CSI is still top dog in the scripted series world.(Lets put those repeats of DH on sunday's and see). It still gets about 20 million per episode

CSI: NY, before the strike, had been trending up with its numbers. It premired at 12.7 million and had reached 14.36 million before the holidays. The repeats are taking their toll on this and CSI: Miami (which could go away).

CSI:Miami had been staying at that 15 - 15.5 million viewers each week before the strike.

With all thre getting new episodes on the air before the other networks, they will see a nice rebound from the repeatfest that was the Writers Strike.

The strike has halted pretty much any momentum programs had going with them. CSI:Miami has clearly hurt from the strike and last night's lackluster results for the drama repeats on CBS (these shows used to pull around 10 million at times in repeats) has to be disappointing. I thought CBS would surpass ABC last night but now I'm not so sure they didn't hold them off.

Agreed. I think the mothership will rebound pretty well, but I've thought NY was just one problem away from losing substantial steam. Could that be happening now? I guess we'll find out. Nevertheless, these are summerlike if not worse repeat numbers for these CBS dramas despite less competition than usual.

It's worth noting, American Idol has been increasing its viewership by about 15% once DVR is factored in, so the dropoff from last year might be fairly small once the final numbers come in (certainly less than 10%).

As for Big Brother, I agree with the posters who say CBS has to be relatively happy with the show's performance, considering the competition. It's worth noting, BB's numbers jumped quite a bit on Tuesday when it only faced AI for a half-hour. I think BB is another show that should see a decent increase once the DVR numbers are released.

The head-to-head with the all-female American idol lineup has hurt ANTM this season. Still, next week is the make-over episode so I'd expect the show to be back up at 4.5million and will come in 3rd in the demo next week.

Even at last night's ratings, ANTM is still the highest rated demo number for CW.

A small drop does not mean it's losing steam. Losing steam means significant drops year after year.

Even a small drop means that you are losing some steam. A large drop means that you are losing a lot of steam. Whether a little or a lot, you are still losing it.

NBC opened the evening with Deal or Deal at a second-place 6.3/10 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Next was another repurposed episode of USA’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent (#3: 6.2/ 9), followed by old faithful Law & Order at a first-place 8.4/14 at 10 p.m. Comparably, Law & Order built from Criminal Intent by a noticeable 35 percent.

I'm wondering if the L&O:CIs with D'Orfino & Erbe do better than the ones with Noth & Witt (like last night's)

I'm actually surprised that Top Model stayed at the level it was at last week. It's like all of a sudden between cycles 1.5 million people got tired of it. Next week is the typically high-rated makeover week... who'd have thought the day would come so soon that we'd be wondering if Top Model could break 4 million?
