CBS’ Survivor: Fiji opened the evening with a typical 14.41 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/13 share among adults 18-49. One year earlier, Survivor: Panama averaged 15.07 million viewers and a 5.2/17 in the demo, based on the final nationals. Also in the 8 p.m. hour were ABC’s Ugly Betty clips show (The Beautiful World of Ugly Betty – Viewers: #3, 8.14 million; A18-49: #4, 2.4/ 7), NBC sitcoms My Name Is Earl (Viewers: #4, 6.88 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.1/ 9) and The Office (Viewers: #4, 7.69 million; A18-49: #2, 4.1/11), and a repeat of The CW’s Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.40 million; A18-49: #5, 1.0/ 3).
CBS veteran CSI rose to a hefty 21.87 million viewers and a 6.6/17 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. But one year earlier (and without Grey’s Anatomy in the competitive mix), CSI averaged 24.42 million viewers and a 7.7/22 in the demo. Second in the hour was Grey’s Anatomy: Every Moment Counts on ABC at 12.58 million viewers and a 5.0/13 among adults 18-49, which was an improvement over the Ugly Betty clips show lead-in of 4.44 million viewers and 108 percent in the demo. Third in the hour were the time period premieres of NBC’s lackluster 30 Rock (Viewers: #3, 5.18 million; A18-49: #3, 2.6/ 7) and Scrubs (Viewers: #3, 5.02 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7), followed by a repeat of Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy on Fox (Viewers: #4, 4.22 million; A18-49: #4, 1.7/ 4), and CW special The Brick Awards at a miniscule 1.07 million viewers and a 0.4/ 1 among adults 18-49. Retention for 30 Rock out of The Office was just 67 percent in viewers and 63 percent in the demo.
In series-premiere news, two episodes of ABC comedy Notes From the Underbelly was sampled, with an average 8.46 million viewers (#3) and a 3.7/10 among adults 18-49 (#2t) from 10-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Notes From the Underbelly (ABC)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.20 million (#2), A18-49: 3.9/11 (#2) - premiere
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.72 million (#3), A18-49: 3.4/10 (#3)
One year earlier, failed older skewing drama Commander in Chief moved into this time period with 8.20 million viewers and a 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49. And one week ago, October Road averaged 7.68 million viewers and a 3.0/ 9 among adults 18-49 (both comparisons are based on the final nationals). So, Notes From the Underbelly was an improvement.
Retention for Notes From the Underbelly out of the Grey’s Anatomy clips show, meanwhile, was 67 percent in viewers and 74 percent among adults 18-49. Although these results may sound relatively promising, once Notes From the Underbelly moves into its regularly scheduled Wednesday 8:30 p.m. time period on April 18 (out of sinking According to Jim) expect double-digit losses.
First at 10 p.m. was CBS’ Shark, with 14.71 million viewers and a 4.0/10 among adults 18-49, followed by the return of NBC’s ER at a so-so 9.14 million viewers (#3) and a 3.7/10 in the demo (#2t). Comparably, this is the first time Shark has ever beat ER among adults 18-49. Don’t you think its time ER called it quits?
