I agree. I think that although Commander in Chief had declining ratings, it was still a critical hit with award wins and along with Invasion, both were attracting a loyal group of viewers, who are now disenchanted with serialized dramas.
As for Veronica Mars: Actually, I don't think that the promos had much to do with the ratings. But the episode began with a pretty shocking scene...so the viewers got hooked...which makes me think that Rob Thomas had better include such scenes more often in the beginning of the episodes.
Maybe the show will become Alias and they'll begin everything en media res? Heh. One of the problems I've had with the episodes this season is that concept of a hook. The mysteries, by and large... kind dull? Like, if I weren't in it for the character and the long-arc, I wouldn't care? The show needs more personal mysteries of the week that directly affect Veronica (i.e. Lilly's necklace being stolen) or more dangerous ones (so, less "my boyfriend is missing, maybe he was kidnapped, oh, he's in jail with temporary amnesia after getting drunk and hitting his head").
I recently read the script for the movie "Zodiac"... how about something like that? Veronica could so take on a mysterious serial killer. And that would give more pressing danger to the episodes (I really felt they could've ramped up the "OMG, the rapist might strike again, at any time" fear feeling in this arc).

Marc: How's Nip/Tuck doing? Any good buzz for the new Courteney Cox show "Dirt"?
I saw the pilot a while back. It's good! It's that Nip/Tuck edgy, though there is a bit of over-the-top to it with the very-graphic-hallucination-having paparzzo. Courtney looks AMAZING.
honestly i thought king of queens would work there...or honestly jericho could go there and become a bit darker.....it would fit perfectly with ncis and the unit...
Gd,
I would only go with Jericho if CBS can find something to air on Wednesday at 8:00. I know you have alot of faith in KOQ, but I don't. Just watch for next week's ratings!!!
If CBS can be moderately successful with one of its midseason rality shows, that's a possibility for the Wednesday 8:00 timeslot, and it would free up Jericho to move to Tuesday at 9:00 with The Unit at 10:00.
Awesome! I can't wait to check it out. Thanks for the heads-up, Travis.

Congrats to VM, but I think 3.49 is still a number that the network shouldn't be too proud of. If that's the highest it can get then the show is still an OBERALL ratings loser. I mean it's been the least watched original drama on network television for the last several weeks.
Also, last night was sort of a "finale" for the mystery. With VM now have EIGHT weeks without a new ep, ppl are gonna forget about the show. Not to mention that the repeats will prob rate very poorly, thus pre-emptions (like on 12/12 for the Family TV Awards). Either way, hopefully VM can continue to do better.
I think this story arc has been great. The actor who plays the cop (David Morse?) is excellent. The Cops obssession with getting Dr. House is a perfect counter to Dr. Houses's obsession with himself. I think Dr. House needs a force from outside the hospital as a nemmisess, because none of those inside have the ego to be a worthy foe.
Well, I see what they're doing, but in doing that, the show has lost most of the comedy element that brought me in in the first place.
VM has never repeated well, but give it up for CW--they've given this show every kind of support, just as UPN did before. Now if they'd just show this kind of loyalty to a show I actually want to watch that gets horrendously low ratings. Of course, for that to happen, they'd have to start airing a show I actually want to watch, period.
CBS really blew it by Cancelling "Judging Amy" 2 years ago. It may have skewed older in the 18-49 but 10-12 million viewers a week would be good for them in that time slot now. Besides I miss Tyne Daly. She is such a good actress.
Say goodbye to help me help you. Now we will have to put up with George Lopez and According to Jim. 2 very, very annoying sitcoms that will go no where.

Mark me down as one of the few that finds George Lopez to be extremely underrated. It definitely has some creative funny moments and I like the supporting cast on it. According To Jim I will never understand the appeal of - Jim Belushi is one of the all time worst sitcom actors.
Is it just me, or is ABC well on its way to blowing the momentum they had going for them, earlier this season? Sure, the near-total victory of Grey's Anatomy in the formerly unwinnable Thursday 9pm slot has been an ego-boosting gambit (though the show would get significantly higher ratings if it wasn't up against CSI), and Ugly Betty is a winner, and Desperate Housewives has revived in the ratings, and DWTS remains a huge hit, and Lost hasn't TOTALLY lost it, but in many ways, they seem to have dropped the ball. Obviously much stronger than they were a short while ago, but I thought they were going to be the #1 network this year, and now I'm thinking maybe not.
And choices like Day Break, Big Day, Help Me Help You, Six Degrees, and a disastrous second season of What About Brian rank high among my reasons for thinking maybe not.
has anyone actually watched "What About Brian" it is getting better each week and needs more time to build the audience. It is much better than that God awful Men in Trees which my wife seems to love.

I noticed that CBS is airing that Victoria's Secret crap at 10:00 next week, so I initially thought that 3 lbs was going to be pre-empted. However, I checked the listings, and I saw that it is airing at 9:00 after an NCIS repeat next week where its competition will be repeats of House, L&O:CI, and ABC's crapedies. Then, the following week, CBS will have all-new episodes of NCIS, The Unit, and 3 lbs airing against mainly repeats on all of the other networks.
So, I guess my point is let's wait to see how 3 lbs performs over the next couple of week before we put the final knot in its noose.

Oh right, I forgot Men in Trees--that's ANOTHER reason I'm wondering if ABC is going to blow its momentum.
I'm sorry, I do respect Rosanne Arquette (who deserves so much better), but What About Brian is just not a show I want to watch. The title alone makes me want it to go away. But I did try it, and it was about as bad as I thought it would be.
