All CBS did by cancelling Judging Amy was give L&O:SVU a 1 year birthday present. During 2003-2005, I taped/watched all 3 network shows : NYPD Blue, Judging Amy, L&O:SVU. Now I watch L&O:SVU on real time and tape Boston Legal. I read where L&O:SVU went up last year. Well of course it did, it no longer faced NYPD Blue or Judging Amy. L&O:SVU is a stand alone series that was accessible for longtime viewers of NYPD Blue and Judging Amy to start watching after those shows ended. Just a thought?
Stand alone shows seem to benefit from declines or cancellations of serialized shows. Classic example, Criminal Minds is the only stand alone drama on at 9 p.m. on Wed. so it can gain viewers from the absence of Lost and even gain viewers who have lost interest in Lost.

Yep, think about it. They could have not picked up Threshold and aired Amy on Friday at 9:00. When C2H flopped on Tuesday, they could have swapped it with Numb3rs, and CBS could now have two really strong nights with NCIS/The Unit/Numb3rs and GW/JA/C2H.
