Despite the debut of Fox’s new Monday line-up, repeats on CBS still led in total viewers. Fox, however, was first overall among adults 18-49.
Season three of Prison Break kicked-off the evening for Fox with 7.41 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 3.2 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was disappointing, with a loss of 1.96 million viewers and14 percent among adults 18-49 from its second season premiere on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 (Viewers: 9.37 million, A18-49: 3.7/12, based on the final nationals). The network had better news at 9 p.m., with the premiere of crime drama K-Ville at 8.96 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 3.4/ 8 among adults 18-49. One year earlier (also on Aug. 21, 2006), former occupant Vanished debuted with 8.65 million viewers and a 3.0/ 8 in the demo, based on the final nationals.
The season-premiere of NBC’s Deal or No Deal was down, but not out with 11.65 million viewers (#1) and a 3.1/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2). One year earlier, a two-hour edition of Deal or No Deal began the season with 15.76 million viewers and a 5.0/13 in the demo, based on the final nationals. Are we beginning to tire of Howie Mandel’s shtick? A one-hour edition of The Singing Bee led out of Deal or No Deal with 7.80 million viewers (#4) and a 2.8/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 9 p.m., followed by a repeat of Heroes at 3.95 million viewers (#3) and a 1.7/ 4 in the demo (#3) at 10 p.m.
CBS had typical results on this final Monday of the summer season, with its repeat combination of How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 6.07 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 6), The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: #3, 6.03 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #1, 10.77 million; A18-49: #2, 3.2/ 8), Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #2, 8.14 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.6/ 7), and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 9.74 million; A18-49: #1, 2.9/ 8). ABC aired two repeats of Wife Swap (Viewers: #4, 5.93 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6 from 8-10 p.m.), followed by a repeat of Supernanny (Viewers: #2, 5.59 million; A18-49: #2, 2.2/ 6). And the CW capped off the evening with two repeat episodes of the once water-cooler worthy Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: #5, avg. 1.79; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2), a repeat of Girlfriends (Viewers: #5, 1.75 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 2), and a repeat of The Game (Viewers: #5, 1.62 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2).
Guess what? Next week at this time I will be reporting on the first night of the new season! Whoo hoo!!!!
Why PB lost 2 million viewers between the season finale and the season premiere is beyond me. Maybe too much promtion isn't good after all. AS for K-Ville i don't understand why everyone is so happy with these numbers. Remember what happened last year with Vanished? It ended on the website. In a couple of weeks it will be viewed by 5-6 million viewers
A couple of factors perhaps might be.. Maybe a lot of viewers didn't know it was premiering last night since its a week earlier than most shows...even your WINNERS/LOSER column isn't appearing till next week signalling the official start of the season.
Fans...females in particular might be angry that the Sarah/Michael romance is in jeopardy if Sarah Wayne Callis isn't on this season. (I have no doubt she'll be back if there is a season 4. She'll have a year off of new mother hood and by then the story of PB may have Michael broken out by then and ready to reunite with her on the run is my guess)
Feel bad about K-VILLE as it will get nuked next week with HEROES coming back. I wish they could have found a better slot for it. It's a wonderful premise for a series.

A premiere improvement by 0.4 in the demo, despite the lead-in declining by 2 mil and 0.5 in the demo? Sounds pretty good to me.
This is surprising news for K-Ville, though of course it'll be interesting to see how it holds up. I'm a little depressed by this, since I thought Prison Break had a surprisingly good premiere while K-ville was surprisingly bad. But I think "New Orleans crime drama with Anthony Anderson" is a lot easier to get sampled than "centuries-old conspiracy with Gale Harold" (Vanished). So, kudos for the start.
The Deal or No Deal news is kind of scary for NBC. 11.65 million for a season premiere? 1 vs. 100 was a consistent 9mil+ performer on Fridays. Is Deal going to do that much better on Friday if it pulls 11.65 mil on a Monday vs. repeats?
I aghree that yesterday's numbers were good for K-ville, but you have to see it in perspective. Next week Heroes comes back, DWTS will begin, 2 and 1/2 man begins. Not good news for K-ville
It appears DoND still has some life left, at least as a network show. But I can't imagine viewers will stick with it thanks to all the gimmicks, "Extreme Makeover: HE" moments and the like that has diluted the show into a big budget mess.
Shocked at "Singing Bee's" fall at 9p, but then I remember that NBC barely promoted the episode (I didn't know about it until I read about it in the local paper's TV insert).
Good start for K-Ville, but the ratings will likely fall once Heroes, 2 1/2 Men and DwTS get going.
Quick question: do these ratings results include stations that air a "make good" movie instead of network fare? I ask because the CBS affiliate in Atlanta (where I live) aired the movie "Ray" instead of the CBS lineup last night as a "make good" for advertisers.
Wow! What a drop for both Deal and Singing Bee. So much for Singing Bee becoming nbc's new savior and Deal has finally hit a wall, what with its over saturation of being all over the sched. It serves nbc right for doing to this show what abc did to Millionaire. Time will tell if Fox will go the same route with 5th grader, and from the looks of it it seems to point in that direction.
I took sometime out of my schedule last night and watched K-Ville and I have to say there was nothing that special about it. I really like Cole Hauser's work, but I am not to sure about this show. I also felt the writers were pushing the race card too much for a hour long drama show.
As for the ratings...I think the next couple of weeks will be the decision maker for the show.
I stuck it out and watched all of K-Ville last night. It certainly has potential, but as detailed in my TV Stocks blog post I am concerned that it will be overwhelmed by all the other shows coming out and it will pretty much drown before it sees it's full potential.
I enjoyed it, liked Anthony Anderson's attitude and acting. The show had some good twists, so it certainly looks ok at first glance. As I said though, survival among the flood of other new shows is somewhat doubtful. We'll see what happens.

Shoot, almost every new show will OPEN with good ratings...but how many viewers will still be there at the end of the premiere ep & how many will tune in to the next ep? Those are the important questions.
To me, K-Ville wasn't too bad, but nothing special. I'll watch it at least a coupla more times, unless the next ep absolutely stinx.
It's easy to figure out why Prison Break's numbers are lower..First of all it's got a plotline that's so crowded with everything but the kitchen sink..and basically if one didn't start watching this since Season 1 who would jump into by Season 3 and feel anything for these wild characters. also with everything that's taking place in the news today..who really wants to watch prisoners fighting in a dirty prison. The subject matter is played out. Third...romance is always appealing..how many women want to keep tuning in to watching a show without romance.. Prison Break better hope Grey' Anatomy never gets scheduled in their same timeslot.
Prison Break skews male anyway, so the romance angle won't produce a ratings bump of any real significance.
It's simply a show that is losing audience in it's 3rd season due to 1) the creative path last year and 2) simple tiring of the premise. I still like the show and enjoyed the premiere, but the results aren't that big of a shock.
I watched a little of K-Ville, and while I love the premise, I thought the script was just too busy. Thing is, the kind of police work the protagonists are doing just doesn't have anything to do with life in Post-Katrina New Orleans, which to me is the whole point of doing a show like this.
Why can't they just be regular beat cops? Why do they have to be supercops? I'm sick to death of supercops. Have any of you in your lives ever met a supercop?
