Why is Gossip Girl returning for a 2nd season with numbers like this?

The bad news is that it is exactly this consistency that "enables" NBC to get away with shelving it to midseason knowing it can produce after a layoff.
It's really a shame the way the network treats this show. With almost no promotion, and the continued scheduling changes, it still manages to pull in solid numbers week after week, particularly this season, and NBC still insists on moving it around and treating it like a red-headed stepchild.

The weather is very nice outside here and I just think its going to be very hard to get people to view 8pm programs at this time of year.
Kudos to HIMYM, 2.5 Men, Medium, One Tree Hill, Bones, House, and Dancing. Rules and CSI:Miami are both disappointing imo as is Gossip Girl (although the 8pm slot probably plays a role here) and DOND should get credit for holding on against very tough competition.
So kudos to House and "disappionting numbers for CSI Miami? Very objcetive like usual

Terrible numbers everywhere. Only DWTS and Bones saved themselves. CBS did badly last night, not a single show above 14 million. House is down more that i would've ever thought. And what can i say about CW? A disaster.

Please explain to me how BBT finishes second in the time slot in the demo every single week, and yet is a failure to you. It outdoes every other sitcom at 8:00 the entire week. Don't you understand that 8:00 in the Spring is an impossible time slot. Please explain what in the world you are talking about. Since BBT beat Bones by a whole lot in the demo at 8:00, are we to cancel Bones, too ? Please explain yourself to us, because I have no idea what you are talking about. quote: Originally posted by WlcmBlueBloodWorstEnemy: There is no way to spin CW's numbers. They are just awful.
The Bachelor: The Women Tell All always does worse than the finale and most of the other episodes. I don't know why ABC does it each year. Just get to the finale. Good news is that it can't be much more expensive than a recap or a clip show.
I've said all I need to say about BBT. If CBS kept anything else, BBT wouldn't be here. It won't have the Monday 8 PM spot on the fall schedule. ROE and HIMYM being on the bubble and BBT renewed makes no sense at all except for they had a bunch of new shows that were clunkers. This year's slate looks really good though so hopefully things turn around for CBS.
Sorry Marc but I completely disagree with you on your DWTS analysis. Christian and Cheryl did two powerhouse dances (especially lift and hold on the second dance). The second dance should have been a 30, not 29. Cheryl might not be Miss Personality, but she is a phenominal chereographer. Marissa needs to go. I find her highly annoying and as I said before, a talk show with her personality will tank unless she tones it down. It is too much perkiness to handle.

I've been defending BBT all the year but those numbers maybe don't mean a failure but they surely mean a very modest performer

means that much for the CW? The show will never reach 3 million (finale, premiere, doesn't matter)..and the demo will never be close to 2.0. Just odd. And this is CW's jewel or something?

10% increase in viewers and a 25% increase in demo over BBT, against exactly the same competition, maybe? Although...isn't this the same excuse HIMYM partisans used when BBT was beating it when the timeslots were switched?

I'm shocked that One Tree Hill did better vs Idol than it's doing vs House! They need to move it back to Tuesdays.

I totally agree. It at least deserves an Honorable Mention for growth out of DoND.
It should be a winner.

Simple explanation: it doesn't do enough. It isn't an impossible timeslot. If you stuck Rules of Engagement there, it would deliver higher results. If you stuck a drama there, it would deliver higher results. People aren't interested in the show. If Amazing Race came back next year Monday at 8, it would produce higher results. I'm not going into the same arguement again, but the comedies are under-delivering again. If you can't see the potential lost, then there is not much I can say. I like and watch both shows, but these shows get basically the same ratings. Look how DWTS added 2 million viewers from 8:00 to 8:30. This time of year the 8:00 spot is impossible to get ratings. I bet if HIMYM and BBT switched time slots their ratings would reverse again. quote: Originally posted by baturcotte: quote: Originally posted by Twins12: Marc, could you explain how BBT and HIMYM both finish in the same position in their time slots, yet one is disappointing and the other is not ?
