Prime-Time Ratings:
Saturday 4/05/08

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 12.86 million, Fox: 5.63, NBC: 4.87, ABC: 3.82

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 4.5 rating/15 share, Fox: 1.9/ 6, ABC and NBC: 1.2/ 4 each

--------------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Saturday’s Winners:
2008 NCAA Basketball, Final Four Doubleheader (CBS)

-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Nothing, and that is because ABC and NBC were in all repeats.

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a slam-dunk Saturday victory for CBS, with the prime-time portion of 2008 NCAA Basketball, Final Four Doubleheader at an approximate 12.86 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/15 share among adults 18-49. Keep in mind, of course, that fast affiliate results for any live sporting event are always approximate. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

2008 NCAA Basketball, Final Four Doubleheader (CBS)
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 13.48 million, A18-49: 4.6/16
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 10.72 million, A18-49: 3.7/13
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 13.52 million, A18-49: 4.7/15
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 13.01 million, A18-49: 4.7/14
10:00 p.m. Viewers: 12.60 million, A18-49: 4.5/14
10:30 p.m. Viewers: 13.81 million, A18-49: 5.1/16

As I always say, when the networks put something worth watching on Saturday, viewers will respond.

Fox finished in the distant No. 2 spot with its perennial combination of Cops (a repeat of 20 Years Caught on Tape – Viewers: avg. 5.42 million; A18-49: avg. 1.9/ 7) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: 5.83 million; A18-49: 1.9/ 6). Both were slightly below average due to competing with basketball.

NBC finished third in both categories (tied with ABC among adults 18-49) with its encore line-up of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #3, 3.84 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3), Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #3, 4.76 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4) and Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 6.02 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5), which has been renewed for a 19th season.

Capping off Saturday was repeat theatrical Harry Potters & the Sorcerer’s Stone on ABC at just 3.82 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m.

That low number for Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone on ABC (3.82 million viewers, 1.2 A18-49) does not bode well for ABC over the next month. What's happened to the Harry Potter franchise, which has always delivered much handsomer Nielsens on a Saturday night for the Alphabet?

I think that networks need to avoid airing movie repeats that sold really well on DVD. If parents are flicking around the channels looking for something to watch and the kids see Harry Potter, the parents will just pop in their DVD.

I think that particular Harry Potter movie has been reaired too many times. The more recent movies in coming weeks will probably generate some more interest. Part of the problem too is that ridiculous 7pm start time. I'm sure some affiliates pull the movie and air other things so they don't have to give up local news. Of course, Saturday 6pm local news probably doesn't get much interest anyway.

Well seeing that CBS does rather pathetic in the demo on Sundays, I'm not expecting much if anything. Fox will win the demo this week but CBS will take viewers. I'm guessing ABC will emerge as tonight's demo winner with CBS taking tonight's households and viewers crown courtesy of 60 Minutes and the weakened Cold Case.

CBS did have a good couple Saturday's Unfortunatley, next week will be another boring Saturday.

ABC, you should consider dumping the Harry Potter movies and air something else. I'd rather watch the DVD of Harry Potter then watch it on tv.

Yes but aside from the 7pm hour, they should all pull above a 2.5 demo with the full hour of Family Guy potentially breaking a 3.0. 60 Minutes probably won't hit a 2.5, Big Brother will be lucky to hit a 2.6, Cold Case won't hit beyond a 3.2 and the repeat of Dexter won't make it past a 2.5.

Hmm maybe that was a different Harry Potter Movie. Usually they're so freakin long they have to start at 7pm to air it all before the kiddies bedtime at 11.

Well, we know that FOX should bring in a demo rating of about 3.o - 3.5, so if its close between them and CBS, CBS will need to bring in a strong night.

Kind of hard to do though with BB9 and Dexter.
