CBS Wins First Night in A18-49 After 9 Days of 2008 July Sweep
Helped in large part by the time-period-winning Canadian series Flashpoint, CBS won its very first night in A18-49 on the ninth day of the July Sweep. FOX still leads with a solid 2.0 A18-49 average, followed by NBC in second with 1.7, ABC third with 1.6, CBS fourth with 1.4, The CW fifth with 0.6, and MyNetworkTV last with a 0.3 average. Year-over-year, ABC the only network up in A18-49's (by 10%), whereas all the other networks are showing A18-49 declines from last July. Overall, A18-49 is down 10% across the six nets from last July.
After 9 nights, CBS holds on to its customary lead in viewership, a full 900,000 ahead of second place NBC. FOX is third, ABC fourth, CW fifth and MNT is last. In viewers, ABC, NBC and CBS are showing year-over-year increases compared to last years July Sweep, and overall, viewership is down by only 1% year-over-year from last July (especially surprising given that this year included the low-viewer Fourth of July holiday).

Nota Bene. This year's Sweep includes the low-HUT Fourth of July whereas last year's Sweep started on July 5th and did not include the Fourth of July.
Flashpoint's numbers are very good. However, it will be interesting to see if the audience returns again next week. Since Flashpoint is a procedural and more in line with what the CBS audience is used to, I think it will hold the audience better than Swingtown.
Wow, Flashpoint did good. How did that happen?? No strong lead in, not enough promotion. Thats odd..It did better than Moonlight and it is on a death timeslot. When you're in the summer and on friday, I expected a 3 million.
Flashpoint did something last night that a lot of people (and please don't take this personal) have been wanting to say to Moonlight fans this summer: shut up.
Kudos as well to Dateline, Smackdown, and 20/20 (for growth out of the lead in).
I watched part of the Dance Machine last night. The concept isn't horrible really. Talent has nothing to really do with it. The contestants however were downright kooky and the hosts were less than ideal. A few tweaks and perhaps they would've had something here but given how there's oodles of overkill in this department, a Friday burnoff was probably the best option.
Maybe. I'm not sure Flashpoint would gain much on Thursdays in either demo or viewers. If it holds in the ratings, CBS will take note either way. Swingtown will continue to likey win its timeslot in the demo for the foreseable future anyway. I could however, understand some additional airings on Saturdays at 8 or 9.

No need to move it now after the good start...let the audience find it first.

Telling them to shut up will just make them talk more.
I think viewers are hungry for original programming options. And Flashpoint happens to be a good show.
