I think expectations were higher because of the Brand of Paradise Hotel has. yes, its not a powerhouse, but a better known product than most of their shows.
Also, it seems to be something that would now appeal to the same viewers that are watching Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, etc... on VH1 and MTV now.

This is the exact preoblem for MNTV and CW. Outside the few people already watching the show, hardly anyone knows about the networks or bothers to sample the shows. CBS can put some piece of junk like Welcome to the Captain on the air and many viewers will give it a try simple because it is on CBS and they watch the shows around it. CW puts Aliens in America on the air and it is a MUCH better show, but barely anyone ever sampled it. Both of these mini-networks need to find a big entity they can hitch their wagons to the way FOX used the NFL. Top sports programming isn't really available, so they need a 'star' show. That means they need to spend some big bucks and hire a big name star to be a part of one of their series so that they can pull a bunch of fans into the netowrk. For CW, my first suggestion would be for them to build a show around Will Smith.
Funny how everyone thought CBS was the most strike resistant with their crime procedurals repeats. But it turns out that the smartest network in dealing with the strike was NBC, who stockpiled programming, including scripted and unscripted. And the most strike resistant was FOX, who had Idol, as well as the Super Bowl.

Old Christine or HIMYM?
Clearly, Old Christine is the one that would be gone. It did well when it first ran behind 2&1/2Men, but never recovered from last season's timeslot change. Along those lines, CBS would be wise not to move Rules of Engagement anywhere else, lest it do the same.
meanwhile, you can keep kidding yourself about how strong BBT is, but it barely outdoes HIMYM in a higher HUT timeslot and closer proximity to 2&1/2Men.
BBT was almost instanly doing better than HIMYM, something Christing and The Class rarely did.
The Streanght of the repeats shows me that new viewers were discovering the show while DWTS, PB and CHUCK were not airing.
BBT has the potential of getting 9.5 million viewers with its next new episodes (if & when that ever happens). but, DWtS is the big factor against it.

Well, UPN did that with Chris Rock. And they had a huge rating (for them) for the debut. But then everybody left.

If T:SCC holds at 9 million viewers for the rest of its run, Would you scale PB down to just 13 hours as a Fall only series?
Keep T:SSC throught the seasona and 24 In the Winter/Spring.
As networks slowly move to a year round programming approach, why not air Terminator:SCC uninterrupted for half the year and 24 uninterrupted for the other half?
I still think the Summer is a waste for original episodes for those 2 shows. Wouldn't get the numbers like they do in the cooler weather months. They would do OK, but the ratings would be watered down because of the lower HUT levels.
Originally posted by AL: Well, early speculation (or rumors) has 24 coming back in the fall for an abbreviated season, followed by a regular run next January.
Wouldn't an abbreviated season violate the series title/theme/structure?
Of course, filming another 16 episodes for this season and 24 for next season all in one year could also be hard as it would require the star to stay out of jail for the whole year.

That could actually be part of the problem. With so many gutter dating shows on the air today, maybe the saturation point has been reached? Big Brother and Survivor will both have to be careful about spending too much time focusing on that aspect of their 'competitions'.
Originally posted by AL: Putting a serialized show on a Friday night would be a terrible move. What FOX should do is build a drama night on Sundays and move the animated comedies to Thursdays. Put 5th Grader and Lyrics on Friday nights. This, IMO, would improve ratings on all 3 nights.
I agree that the Animation block would do very well on Thursdays and that 5th Grader & Lyrics would do well on Fridays. But would Bones and what ever other drama(s) do just as goo, or better on Sunday than the Animation block?
It would need to take HOUSE and BONES to do it. But that would then leave a hole on Tuesdays in the fall. Plus, what would you place at the 7pm hour when FOX doesn't have NFL runover and THE OT to fill in?
It makes perfect sense. Dead hot girls are all the rage in 10PM dramas and features aimed at young men. Many cop/drama show runners have complained for years that network exec's have been asking for more and more of what amounts to torture porn. Why wouldn't America love the real thing.

Why the huge rise in the demos in the second hour of American Gladiators?
You're dreaming if you think FOX will cancel PRISON BREAK. The ratings have been consistant and with 24 possibly not back till 2009-they are going to want to have this series on in the fall where viewers are going to look for some familiarity in programming.
As for the ABC HOLLOWAY special...there is something really distrubing about ABC getting a ratings bonanza on the dead body of a beutiful young girl.

A very valid point.
However, I don't think anyone thought the repeats would keep them high in the demos. On the other hand, they are still doing well in overall viewers (having just lost the lead to FOX after the Superbowl).
There is no question that FOX is taking advantage of the strike. The vast majority of that is due to Idol and the Superbowl, but their other programs are doing well too.
