Saturday 5/17/08

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 5.17 million, Fox: 4.53, ABC: 3.82, NBC: 3.69

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 1.6 rating/6 share, ABC: 1.3/ 5, CBS: 1.0/ 4, NBC: 0.8/ 3

--------------------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Saturday’s Winners:
Nothing

-Saturday’s Losers:
Every single show on this evening!

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS finished first in total viewers and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49 on this typically mundane Saturday. There is very little to say, of course, when just slightly above five million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 is the top-rated network for the evening.

On that note, CBS had noting to report with its combination of a repeat of Cold Case (Viewers: #1: 4.59 million; A18-49: #3, 0.8/ 3), a repeat of CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 5.05 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3), and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #1, 5.78 million; A18-49: #2, 1.3/ 5). Fox’s perennial combination of Cops (Viewers: #2, 4.25 million; A18-49: #1: 1.6/ 7) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 4.81 million; A18-49: #1: 1.6/ 6) were both below average.

Elsewhere, theatrical Hitch on ABC averaged a mere 3.82 million viewers (#3) and a 1.3/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#2) from 8-11 p.m. And NBC’s encore telecasts of Medium (Viewers: #4: 2.52 million; A18-49: #4, 0.5/ 2), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #4: 3.56 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 2), and Law & Order (Viewers: #2, 4.99 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4) all generated minimal interest. What a night!

Yeah, but I wonder how much of it was because there was nothing worth watching?

BTW, it appears "Movie Night" on networks may be an idea that is past its prime. The last several movies that have aired have scored minimal ratings; I'm guessing very few people are interested in watching a pan-and-scan commercial-ridden film in this day and age.

Good catch...it was a typo...Fox averaged a 1.6/ 6 in the demo. It's so awful it doesn't really matter, but if COPS did 1.6/7 in the demo and AMW did 1.6/6 in the demo, FOX couldn't have averaged a 1.8 in the demo for the night.

Why don't the networks go back to treating it like it's a normal night? There are plenty of people like me who are home almost every Saturday night (I have a 1-year old) and would love to watch TV. Instead we mostly use it to catch up on stuff we DVR'd during the week. Saturday night became a barren wasteland because the networks let it.

It's a holiday week, the other networks probably won't be much more creative.

And hell, that's 5 hours of programming my wife would be interested in watching on NBC, which is 3 more than normal.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be all FOX due to American Idol. and maybe Monday due to part two of the House season finale.

Are you sure you're comparing the correct weeks? L&O isn't a repeat Wednesday at 10.

If the ohter networks just aired repeates of their normal schedule, it would be MORE creative than NBC's

NBC may have the chance to averge 4 million, or below this week.

My prediction is 3.65 million average & a 1.5 demo average.

SVU repeats and L&O Wed. should do well enough to keep them above that but it will be in the 4 million viewer territory. These were strategically picked out nights. For instance, on Thursdays its 90 minutes of DOND into 90 minutes of Last Comic Standing. That should do okay. I would hope they would pull the Office repeats on Sunday this week.

Wow. More L&O. Who would've thought?! NBC needs to really limit those two this summer to just one airing a week and let's just get some movies around to fill Saturdays already or air encores of the new summer reality there instead of drama encores. Or here's an even better idea, repeat all of last fall's eps of Chuck, Heroes, and then some repeats of Medium on Saturdays. Low rated? Yes, but what hasn't been for them?
