The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data):

-Total Viewers:
ABC: 6.69 million, Fox: 5.50, CBS: 3.40, NBC: 3.36

-Adults 18-49:

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
NASCAR Countdown led ABC to a rare Saturday victory, with a first-place 6.69 million viewers and a 2.5 rating/8 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. The season-premieres of Fox’s veteran Cops (Viewers: avg. 5.00 million; A18-49: 1.8/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: 6.00 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6 at 9 p.m.) each finished a comfortable No. 2 in their time periods. Comparably, that was a minor decrease from their year-ago performances (Cops – Viewers: 5.82 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 7 / America’s Most Wanted – Viewers: 6.36 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 8, based on the final nationals on Sept. 9, 2006).

Elsewhere, CBS opened the evening with two-hours of coverage of US Open Tennis (Viewers: #4, 2.99 million; A18-49: #4, #4, 0.8/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.), followed by 48 Hours Mystery at 10 p.m. (Viewers: #2, 4.24 million; A18-49: #2, 1.2/ 4). NBC finished last overall as a result of a repeat of Most Outrageous Moments (Viewers: #3, 3.04 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.8/ 3), the NBC Fall Preview (Viewers: #4, 2.19 million; A18-49: #4, 0.6/ 2), a repeat of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #3, 3.84 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3), and a repeat of Medium (Viewers: #3, 3.63 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3).

Clearly people weren't interested in NBC's fall lineup. Wink

May we soon quit saying "another bland Saturday"?

Well, I have anyway since FOOTBALL is back.

I am always surprised at how poorly the network fall special previews do in the ratiings...that must be why The CW and ABC didn't run them as primetimers, instead going the affiliate special route. I have always found the fall specials to be a relatively good guage of what's on offer, much better than the 30 second promos.

That being said, of all the network fall previewers viewed so far, I'd have to say that NBC's was the weakest. Part of the low rating last night might be a result of the special having already run as an affiliate special over the past few weeks.

I am most curious as to how the debut of NFL NETWORK: Total Access rated on MyNetworkTV last night. This is the first time in decades where a broadcast networks strongest program of the week has been slotted as part of a Saturday night schedule. Could MyNetworkTV lift all network boats on Saturday night with a strong HUT and young demo score, enough to bring the night up to Friday night levels? My guesstimate is that the Total Access debut on MNT last night got the nascent net over the 4 million mark for the first time, and its highest young adult rating ever (around the 1.5 level).

We must await to hear the release of the numbers by MyNetworkTV or the NFL. But my sense is that over the course of this weekend, taking last nights NFL numbers for MNT together with The CW's expected low numbers tonight, could see a seismic shift in the weekly numbers roll-up...the first time ever that The CW has fallen to sixth place amongst the English language networks.

If I was a MyNetworkTV pr spin-ster, I would be crunching the numbers on my abacus right now, and wordsmithing the press release for Tuesday when the final numbers are released. And getting a nice magnum of pricey champagne to celebrate the first anniversary of the network with its climb out of last place!

I'd be surprised if it hit 4 million Dumont. Most folks don't care too much when it comes to recap and preview shows. If it hits over 1 million, it should be labeled as successful for now. Last night may have been especially low because of college football and the UFC fight that was free on Spike.

On the bright (or not as gloomy) side, this was a substantial uptick from last Saturday's Friday Night Lights debacle. Oh what NBC has been reduced to these days.

Considering Football Night in America can barely manage 6 million a week, I'm thinking the MYNet NFL Total Access will be under 2 million for sure.

I wonder if we'll see a press release from MyTV on how well the past week went for them. It would be nice to get a gauge of how well they increased from last fall's horible start with the Telenovels.

That may be about right, but being at 9pm will help more than NBC's 7pm start. Plus, being NFL Network Produced, those viewers without Digital Cable/Sports Pak subscribers, my want to see something from the League's Net.

If they are going to do a press release talking about their good ratings, they better do it quick before any of the other networks start their Fall programming. Once CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC, and CW start their fall programming, MNTV will once again be so far distant into last place behind CW and UNI that no press release will even be noticed.

Did anyone watch HBO's Tell Me You Love Me last night? If so, what did you think?

Any increase for MNTV will be noticed, especially considering how the other networks have been declining. If they could get the majority of their shows over 1 million this year then it may be the start of an eventual player to the CW.

I OnDemanded it, before it actually premiered at 9pm last night.

I fast forwarded a lot. I find the characters pretty flat and annoying.

But dear Lord, Jane Alexander has aged well, and what an actress. And there's great chemistry between her and David Selby. I'd watch a show about that couple happily, and I wouldn't fast-forward.

But unfortunately, they'll be onscreen for just a few minutes of each episode.

I think I'll keep OnDemanding and fast-forwarding.

Can't wait for Jane's nude scene.

I've never been a fan of clip shows no matter what network they are on. I'd rather just know the premise and watch the entire show - or turn it off after 10 minutes depending on my enjoyment factor.
