FOX Steamroller Continues to Roll After Ten Days of the 2008 February Sweep:

After ten days of the February Sweep, FOX continues to steam-roller over the other networks in all key measures, with an average greater than the other five networks combined in the young adult demo (FOX 9.56 vs. 5-nets 7.90) and viewership (25.183m vs. 24.967m) averages. This unprecedented lead over its rivals has been fueled by the enormous Super Bowl numbers in combination with the powerhouse American Idol numbers on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but FOX continues to roll up nightly wins having beaten the other networks on six out of ten nights so far (though the first Friday was a tie with NBC).

After ten days, ABC holds a 0.2 advantage over NBC for second place in the A18-49 demo, while CBS holds on to second place in viewership over ABC by only 251,000 viewers.

After ten days, FOX is continuing to show triple-digit year-over-year improvement in demo and viewers, with MyNetworkTV also showing significant double-digit year-over-year upward movement (eight nights only). Of the remaining networks, ABC, NBC and The CW are all showing low double-digit year-over-year slippage while CBS (last year's Super Bowl broadcaster) is showing very large year-over-year fall-off.

Also of note: despite the WGA-strike addled line-ups of the six networks, after ten days the six networks are showing minor year-over-year erosion: the young adult demo is down by 6% on a year-over-year basis and viewership is down by only 3% year-over-year.

ABC's getting pretty good mileage out of the movie nights. I imagine it's been a little while since they averaged a 2.4 on a Saturday night.

ABC has been wise to schedule a handful of broadcast premieres for its Saturday movie night...next week is MIRACLE, which should do very well for the Alphabet as it is somewhat based on their Lake Placid coverage of the American hockey upset. A few years back, I saw an excellent HBO-produced documentary on this team, and I think it might have been titled "Do You Believe in Miracles" or something.

MyNetworkTV has also done very well with its occasional MySaturdayNightMovie franchise, garnering several 1-2 million viewerships with their distinct brand of theatricals.

I am surprised that CBS doesn't put movies on Saturday leading into 48 Hours Mystery at 10 pm. That 0.9 A18-49 for Shark has me reaching for my record-book...is that a worst-ever for CBS?

Down a bit from last year's race, but a healthy sign for NASCAR given the 'new car' and the 'new sponsor'.
Side note: I watched the race and was happy to see the increased stability of the 'new cars'. As for the broadcasters stumbling over the 'new sponsor' name: I expect them to keep saying 'sprint cars' for weeks to come. Sometimes advertisers just can't come to grips with an obvious marketing problem.

They had Runaway Jury lead into 48 Hours three weeks ago and only managed 5 million or so and a 1.0.

The 0.9 may be a regular season record or a February sweep record for CBS, but I know they were lower than that last summer. Several Saturday 8pm reruns of The Unit only got in the 0.6 range.

Marc, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" wasn't a RERUN.... ABC even said on the ad that it was the "NETWORK TELEVISION PREMIERE" of the movie.

Completely agree.

No it wasn't -- but it still should have been labeled a winner, since it was a significant improvement over ABC's usual Saturday numbers.

Still, ABC would have been better off if they had shown this on Friday nights, where they have done well with family-oriented theatricals in the past (The Polar Express, The Santa Clause series, etc). Hopefully next year they save it for a Friday run during the Thanksgiving - Christmas window. It would probably approach 10 million viewers in those circumstances...

It seems Ausiello was indeed wrong regarding WMC

"Women's Murder Club
Shocking development: A deal to bring the show back this season is being hammered out as I write this" That's what he says now

Great!! So the person that posted that on Friday was indeed a reliable source. Great turnaround for WMC and a wise decision by ABC!!

WMC is one of the new shows that should return this spring. Use Primetime as the lead in and give it another 5 eps or so. Also, use repeats at 9pm starting this March and end the low rated Greys and Housewives repeats already.
