This is good to know !! But CW better not fold since Supenatural has become not miss tv for me !
Supernatural faces demo powerhouses on Thursday: GA, CSI, TO and now 30 rock is doing well too. Considering that heavy competition, I don't think it's doing badly at all. Obviously the show skews older than SV, GG, OTH, but it still brings good numbers. There's no reason for concern about renewall for next season at this point. Unless the CW folds.

Disappointing. At the start of this season, I predicted that this would be the year that Supernatural started outperforming Smallville. Instead, Supernatural has fallen farther behind its lead-in, it seems. the biggest weakness is that it skews old.
I don't think it's disapointing at all. Your expectations were higly unrealistic. Can you explain what made you expect the show to rise to 4 millions and half to outperform Smallville? With no promotion and the competition it faces, and in the 4th season when shows start to fall? Word of mouth can only do so much. And what is the problem with SPN's audience being older? It's doing much better this season than last. That's a good thing. I think it'd doing fine considering all factors. I'd like to see what would happen if SV and Supernatural traded slots. I think SV's and SPN's numbers would be very close.

Part of my expectation was based upon the aging Smallville losing viewers. Instead, Smallville is going stronger.

I am tired of hearing the Supernatural and One Tree Hill fnas whine about this. CW isn't doing anything that the other networks don't do. New shows and the top network hits are the shows that get the most promotion.

I didn't say that Supernatural wasn't doing well. I said that it skews older, which it does. That is its 'weak spot' for CW: a network that wants younger viewers. Don't feel bad, though, Supernatural still has the big female skew that the network loves.
I will say that if there had been a poll here before the season started, the Supernatural fans would have been lining up to agree that Supernatural would surpass Smallville this Fall.

Smallville isn't going stronger. It has declined from last season. Not declining as much as expected considering Lex and Lana's leaving, but hey, I guess the CW is glad Smallville's fans are loyal.

I'm not whining about promotion. I'm stating a fact. Supernatural isn't promoted. It still does well, something Gossip Girl couldn't acomplish.

As far as i'm aware, Supernatural's audience is more male than female since it moved out of Tuesdays (post Gilmore Girls) in 2006. But right now, it's not a weak spot at all for the CW. All viewers are viewers. The number demo SPN faces is crazy big. I don't know that any other CW show would fare better. Young viewers tivo it.
18-32 demo number SV faced this week: 13.2
18-32 demo number SPN faced this week: 22.5

Uh, no. Only if they don't know what numbers mean. Besides SV fans would vote too. And there's much more talk on this forum about Smallville than Supernatural which makes me believe there are more Smallville fans here (and pretty annoying ones).

that's not at all what that says -- in fact, I would expect Private Practice to move to a different night: either after DWTS or after Grey's.
LOM as a lead-in at 8pm (I know a lot of people want it as a lead-out, but really going against two procedurals at 10pm would not be good for it, and a new male-skewing show at 10pm would be my expectation for the new Wed sched...
If your gonna schedule 'road kill' against American Idol, do you really want that show to be LOM? I wouldn't be surprised to see double up episodes of According to Jim in the timeslot prior to LOST, though I think ABC could do better and by that I mean be more agressive. If NCIS can stand up to Idol there must be other shows that can do the same.
Well, no, I wouldn't necessarily sacrifice LOM to AI. But isn't According to Jim locked in to Tuesdays, either at 8pm or 9pm for an hour (original plus repeat). How many places can ABC put that horrible show on?
Scheduling around AI has been ABC's major weakness: they are so threatened by it, they even schedule around it when AI isn't even on the air (see the scheduling of DWTS: Results show to Tuesdays at 9pm so they can stay consistent when AI is on Tuesdays at 8pm in January--and that's their best show).
CBS has done the best (BY FAR) by scheduling procedurals (NCIS and Criminal Minds--especially NCIS), but as I've lamented time after time, ABC has cancelled most if not all of its true procedurals, most recently Women's Murder Club. LOM is a procedural of sorts, so you never know--it may not drop as much as you think.
Of course the best any show has done opposite AI is LOST, when both were on Wednesdays at 9pm a few years ago. So they could switch LOST to its original Wednesday @ 8pm, follow it with a combination of LOM and Castle or The Unusuals in the 9pm and 10pm timeslots.
