I agree. I like his show and most of his opinions but his stand up is just ok for me (God I sound like Randy jackson)

Yeah but you're d*mned if you do d*mned if you don't. Cut em off and people complain. Let them go on and on and then the show runs 4 hours. Incidentally the highest ratings came in 98 when Titanic won and I believe that was a 4 hour broadcast. So maybe length doesn't really matter.

The first think the awrds shows need to do is reinvent the presentation. Its out dated. Yes, you need a level of class, but its the same show for the last 80 years. The best jokes are in the beginning of the night, and people give up before the Big awards are give, just before Midnight.
A faster pace is needed, for one. A new Concept is the second thing needed.
I agree that the format needs to be revamped -- it's too stuffy, too rigid, and not any fun, really. And that music conductor kept cutting off people too quick.
Considering most of the NASCAR coverage was during a rain delay, 10.7 million is just insane to me...
I think BB has gotten to the point where they have to consider the long term effects of this season-you've got a pretty stable summer franchise, and you odn't want to mess that up...

None of the ones I'm thinking about were rambling -- I understand cutting people off for going on and on -- but several times he cut people off that didn't even get a chance to speak (in categories with 2 or more winners) -- I guess in one case they even brought the lady back to give her speech, because all she had time to say was "Thank You."
Yeah I don't know if that was a case of thinking one person was going to be the spokesperson for the movie or what but yeah that was definitely pretty bad

Dexter's doing better than Shark (R) would do, at least in the demo, but not by very much. My guess is that they'll pull/move it in about six weeks and have Shark play out its post-strike originals in that slot.
Probably. Hey, maybe DEXTER is the solution to the 10pm Tuesday dilemma.

If they are looking for ways to shorten up the program, what they need to do is get rid of the 'skits' that the stars do before introducing a category. No one, and I do mean no one, needs to see a couple of scruffy fat guys arguing about which one of them looks more like Halle Berry. All that does it make people believe that the writer's don't deserve whatever they are being paid.
I know the stars don't want to just walk on stage and read the noms/results, so if really they need insentive to take part in the Oscars, let each star walk on stage, and sum up their current/future projects in 10 seconds or less. " Hi, I'm Seth Rogan. Look for me in 'Fanboys' as well as 'Zack and Miri make a Prono' ".

Before Dexter is considered for any 'solution' on broadcast TV, should they wait and see how much further the ratings drop before stabilizing? From episode #1 to episode #2, the show dropped 21% of its viewers.
honestly, I dont know how the Oscars git that many viewers. The program is long, boring, and at times painful...
Add on to that the fact that it seems like in recent years only movies that no one watches, and mostly actors who 99.99% of all Americans, who dont work in the movie business, cant identify, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Until the Academy makes the program relevant again by nominating better movies and performances, the numebrs will continue to plummet..
BTW, I still have zero clue who Javier Bardem is. And, I realize Daniel Day Lewis is a solid actor, but why keep nominating and giving an award to a guy who no one one, aside from apparantly the Academy, knows is an actor...

I think the vast majority of the people know who Daniel Day Lewis is and i think many people also know who Javier Bardem is. And here i must say that you give an award to an actor beacause he plays well not beacause is well known. By your judgment Tom Cruise should win every year, even if he doesn't play in any films

I agree with your whole assessment.
1. There needs to be ZERO politics in awards shows, not more. I cant stand when celebrities, who are no more informed about politics than 10 random people who you pick out in Times Square, start spewing their views. They are entitled to their views, but they need to keep them to themselves and not use a platform like the Oscars to express them and attempt to influence others..
And having a guy like Bill Maher, who is not funny as well, would make the problem even worse..
2. I think they need to get rid of half the awards. No one cares what the best cartoon is, and which costume designer is the best. Also, we can do away with the non-stop montages of past winners.
They should try to make it more like the Grammy's in a way..

Many care what "cartoon" is the best. Maybe more than who is the best supporting actor.
Have you thought that maybe the reason you think Maher is not funny is beacuase you have other political options? We all know the supporters of a certain political party are rather closed minded
