Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

-Ratings Breakdown: ABC was the most-watched network on this second Sunday of the Nov. 2007 sweeps, and three networks (ABC, NBC and Fox) tied for the No. 1 spot among adults 18-49. CBS finished third overall in total viewers and fourth among adults 18-49, while cellar dweller the CW was barely visible.
Fox’s combination of an NFL Football overrun and post-game The OT led the 7 p.m. hour, with an average 13.78 million viewers and a 5.5 rating/15 share among adults 18-49. CBS granddaddy 60 Minutes finished second in total viewers (12.99 million) and third among adults 18-49 (2.6/ 7), while Football Night on NBC was just the opposite at 7.27 million viewers (#3) and a 2.7/ 8 in the demo (#2). Also in the 7 p.m. hour was ABC’s combination of NASCAR (Viewers: #4, 5.77 million; A18-49: #4, 1.8/ 5) and an abbreviated version of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #4, 7.61 million; A18-49: #4, 2.4/ 6), and CW Now (Viewers: 1.08 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1) and a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 938,000; A18-49: 0.4/ 1) on the CW. Needless to say, the CW finished in the distant No. 5 spot.
The Colts vs. Chargers match-up on NBC’s Sunday Night Football averaged an approximate 14.43 million viewers and a 5.6/13 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate. First, however, in total viewers at 8 p.m. was ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, at 15.09 million (and a second-place 5.3/13 in the demo).
Also at 8 p.m. was week two of CBS’ The Amazing Race 12 (Viewers: #3, 10.48 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 8), which is vast improvement over one time wonder Viva Laughlin; Fox duo The Simpsons (Viewers: #3, 10.57 million; A18-49: #1, 5.1/13) and King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 7.28 million; A18-49: #3, 3.7/ 9); and the CW’s ratings starved Life Is Wild (Viewers: 1.35 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1). Retention for King of the Hill out of The Simpsons of just 69 percent in total viewers and 73 percent in the demo means that it might be time for aging King of the Hill to call it quits.
ABC moved into the winner’s circle at 9 p.m. care of Desperate Housewives at a healthy 18.54 million viewers and a 7.2/16 among adults 18-49. CBS’ older skewing Cold Case finished third in total viewers (12.91 million) and fourth among adults 18-49 (3.0/ 7), while the Fox comedies -- Family Guy and American Dad -- performed as follows:
Family Guy (Fox) – Sunday 9 p.m. Viewers: 10.42 million (#4), A18-49: 5.4/12 (#3)
American Dad (Fox) Viewers: 7.93 million (#4), A18-49: 4.0/ 9 (#3)
Capping off the 9 p.m. hour was a repeat of America’s Next Top Model at a mere 1.45 million viewers and a 0.6/ 1 in the demo. The next time the CW mentions how well Top Model performs in repeats don’t believe them.
Finishing a solid second behind Sunday Night Football at 10 p.m. was must see ABC drama Brothers & Sisters at 12.53 million viewers and a 5.0/13 among adults 18-49. And third was CBS’ Shark at a still healthy 11.46 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 in the demo. Both shows fit comfortably out of their lead-ins.
It's difficult to be optimistic on a quick end to the writers' strike, because I believe most CEOs and higher-ups share the same opinion of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, which he stated last week.

TAR held up pretty well, considering they had no football overrun in most of the country (and the places they did have an overrun it wasn't that much- it was only about 7 minutes or so, plus the game was a yawner).
ABC moved into the winner’s circle at 9 p.m. care of Desperate Housewives at a healthy 18.54 million viewers and a 7.2/16 among adults 18-49.
And last year at this time (Sunday, 11/12/06)--

ABC scored a typically solid Sunday with its line-up of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #3, 9.99 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 8), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 15.04 million; A18-49: #2, 5.4/13), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 22.20 million; A18-49: #1, 9.0/20) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #3, 13.10 million; A18-49: #2, 5.2/13) from 7-11 p.m. Although retention for Brothers & Sisters (the best new relationship drama since thirtysomething) out of Desperate Housewives of 59 percent in total viewers and 58 percent among adults 18-49 could certainly be better, positive word of mouth is beginning to spread. And it is, indeed, a show worth keeping. As for Desperate Housewives, congratulations Marc Cherry. Your show is back in true must see form.

CW Now breaks a million! Three cheers for Dawn Ostroff!
Not a whole lot else worth saying except that Simpsons/Family Guy are quietly picking up some major steam, and should expect that to continue in the spring when they still have a backlog of originals. I figured football would do a little better.

That was immediately post "Bang." We'll see if the Tornado reaches "Bang" levels.

You seem obsessed.
And Marc's comment wasn't about ratings, it was about the quality of the show.
No, just accurate. You, otoh, are clearly obsessed with the idea of me being obsessed.

I'm sorry, I thought it was pretty obvious I was pointing out that people were saying "Desperate Housewives is BACK!" last season. If the show had gotten back to form last season, why is everybody talking about it returning to form THIS season?
