quote: Looking at the ratings, New Amsterdam is sure to be picked up. It grew out of House and is now in the mid 2 demos. FOX usually keeps things in the mid 2's. As I said before, it is destined for Friday greatness. Not shocking, out of all FOX's strike fillers, this was the only one of quality and promise.
Just for the record, I don't agree with this either.

I do believe that rare phenomenon known as positive word-of-mouth is furiously at work for both series, and that is why they are now showing unexpected surges in both viewers and demo.
But the word of moth would work after the first episode not after both series went tumbling down

Weekly numbers are out for Week 28 just ended, and FOX eked out another young demo win by 0.1 in A18-49 (CBS won viewers, easily):
Week 28, Broadcasters Ranked on A18-49 (000's of 2+ Viewers) ====================================== 1. FOX 3.5(9620) 2. CBS 3.4 (11530) 3. ABC 2.2 (7610) 4. NBC 2.0 (6290) 5. UNI 1.6 (3760) 6. THE CW 0.8 (2150) 7. TEL 0.4 (990) 8. MNT 0.3 (960) 9. TF 0.2 (550) 10. ION 0.1 (510) 10. AZA 0.1 (170)
On season-to-date, it's going to be a street fight amongst ABC, CBS and NBC to break that three way tie for second place in the demo, with just seven more weeks remaining in the regular season:
Season-to-Date, Weeks 1-28, Broadcasters Ranked on A18-49 (000's of 2+ Viewers) ====================================== 1. FOX 4.3 (11390) 2. CBS 3.0 (10500) 2. ABC 3.0 (9210) 2. NBC 3.0 (8410) 5. Hey, the way the U.S. educational system is now, that's an advantage for you. Why do you think we've outsourced our customer service jobs to India? quote: I wonder how well you would fare in my language since english is not the only language.
No, but it's the language you choose to discuss TV shows in. I might mention in passing that America is not the only source of TV shows worth discussing, but clearly you don't agree. quote: About calling fans braindead, isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black?
Hey! Are you using the word 'black' as a negative!??? I'm telling President Obama on you! quote: You haven't got the slightest clue what you're talking about, do you?
Well, somebody doesn't.

-Adults 18-49: CBS: 5.4 rating/14 share, ABC: 3.9/10, NBC: 2.5/ 7, Fox: 2.4/ 6, CW: 0.5/ 1

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
--------------- -Yesterday’s Winners: Dancing With the Stars (ABC), 2008 NCAA Basketball: Men’s Championship Game (CBS)
-Honorable Mention: Deal or No Deal (NBC), Medium (NBC)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats): My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (NBC), The Bachelor: London Calling (ABC) ----------
Fox had a typical Monday care of a repeat of House (Viewers: #3, 7.16 million; A18-49: #3, 2.5/ 7) and New Amsterdam (Viewers: #4, 7.53 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6), which fits like a glove out of the House encore. And cellar-dweller the CW could not compete with repeats of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, 1.18 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1) and the Monday 9 p.m. time period premiere of One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 1.09 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1), which fits well apparently out of Gossip Girl.

NA should have been in the honorable mention because it grew out of its lead-in

I don't know if that's fair. The lead-in was a repeat of "House". While the numbers are certainly better than they were the last week, doing better than a repeat doesn't say much. Otherwise "Eli Stone" would have gotten an Honorable Mention for two weeks running, as it's been leading out of old LOST episodes.

Agreed, although House is known to repeat somewhat better than Lost. Marc has been very fair with NA. Its ratings did prompt a somewhat favorable comment from him today, but I don't think an honorable mention was warranted. FOX has just not done well with Monday night dramas lately.

Secret Talents of the Stars sounds like the old person's version of Dancing with the Stars. Big Brother will help boost the demo a bit, but this show still sounds lik an old person's magnet.

pshhh, President Obama. He has to get past the closet old fart Democrat too. No I'm not talking about Hilary, although she'll likely support him after the Democrats completely abandon her in coming weeks.

Have the ever just used live ratings as the standard?
Live ratings were the standard before VCR came along.
Thanks, I was thinking that was the logic point to start it, but I honestly didn't know.
maybe you should ask Marc about this as a podcast question? A question about Nielsen history might spark a detailed answer from him about Nielsen's start with diaries, then maybe the addition of overnight called in reporting, then boxes, and etc... I really have no idea about how their reporting chronology evolved.

His data is labelled as viewers 2+. Out of curiousity, do you have the conversion between demo and viewers for the 18-34 demo?

No, I'm not him. People tell me I'm white, and I believe them, because I post on a message board devoted to TV ratings. quote: He has to get past the closet old fart Democrat too.
All I heard was 'old fart'. quote: No I'm not talking about Hilary,
Last I heard, Ms. Duff was sitting this election out. For one thing, she's not old enough to run yet. quote: although she'll likely support him after the Democrats completely abandon her in coming weeks.
It's a confusing time for cranky conservatives, isn't it?
