These two may fit well together, but both of them need to be paired with a stronger show.
Hint when you want to compare two shows: don't take the lowest ratings of the season for one and use it for your analysis.
I simply compared the penultimate Monday ratings for SCC with those of NA.
quote:
SCC has always been above 3.0 in the demo except for this one episode you "selected",
It was the obvious one to select, and with the lead-in it had, it's pretty hard to make the case that SCC would have done better than 3.0 in the demo after last night's House repeat.
Nobody's saying SCC didn't ORIGINALLY do much better than NA. But the fact is, SCC fell a lot further, a lot faster, with a lot more promotional muscle behind it.
Averages for the first season of SCC are not something you're going to want brought up during SCC's second season, if it does get one.
quote:
So no, NA is not comparable at all to SCC yet.
Sure it is--it's another crappy derivative FOX drama that should never have been greenlit in the first place.
quote:
It needs to improve in the demo to get a second season.
If you SAY so. Would you agree SCC needs to stop going DOWN in the demo to have any hope of having a full second season?
quote:
Be more objective, and perhaps you won't be the only one surprised when SCC is renewed.
Why would it surprise me that FOX does stupid things?
And that you applaud them when they do?
C'mon, Z--you lost this one. Badly. You can't just ignore retention out of the lead-in, because it doesn't fit your argument. Marc is pretty objective--he didn't make SCC a loser, and he hasn't done it for NA either. Although in terms of intelligent drama, both shows are losers, and so are their fans.
SCC is not in any way guaranteed to go above 3.0 in the demo. But next season, you'd be crowing if it did better than 2.5--and denying you ever said 3.0 was the goal.

MEDIUM deserves a WINNER mention for improving so greatly on the DOND lead-in and pulling it's highest ratings since 05/08/06 (11.20 million) in total viewers (when Kelsey Grammar guest-starred).
It's demo was the 2nd best of the season as well. Not bad at all. NBC is moronic to be holding this to midseason.

Have the ever just used live ratings as the standard?
Live ratings were the standard before VCR came along.
No, it's just glaringly obvious to anyone with a brain.

The showrunner was quoted as saying their budget is fairly average.
Yeah, and showrunners ALWAYS tell the truth about stuff like that.

Of course some people immediately screamed he was saying that to "try to save his show," but I have a hard time believing that that comment somehow masks FOX to the actual amount they spend for the series, thus aiding in renewal.
He's not lying to FOX, he's FOR FOX. FOX doesn't want to admit how much of a bath they took on SCC. This happens all the time in the entertainment biz.

It makes little sense for him to lie about something like that.
Hey, it makes little sense for John McCain to lie about everything being peachy in Iraq, but ambition tends to outrank sense in most human endeavors.
quote:
FOX gets much better demo numbers with SCC
Yeah, but the way SCC was falling before S1 terminated makes it unlikely that will hold true for very long.
quote:
and my guess is they'll likely retool a little if they end up renewing it. As for NA, it's shown potential and I can see FOX renewing it and trying to nurture it.
Shhhh! Don't tell Zitrone! She's a total NA hater!

Such as...
ANTM and Supernatural are the only candidates. I can't see either (GG or OTH) being a good fit with Smallville. It seems likely that ANTM will be a leadin for one of the CW's new shows, though, and it seem that Reaper would be a better fit with Supernatural than either Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill. So, the two shows (GG and OTH) may be stuck with each other.

I agree completetely. Medium has shown great improvement this season, and deserves a spot on the fall schedule (preferably on Mondays, where it belongs, as this season has shown). Why NBC insists on treating this show like crap is a mystery to me.
And I may be mistaken, but I thought this was Medium's highest demo of the season, wasn't it? Or did I miss something? I thought its previous high was 3.3, and this week's was 3.4. Did I miss something somewhere?
Exactly, TSCC weakest episode ratingswise still bests NA best in the last few weeks.
Yeah--but both shows have only run a few weeks total, and nobody really knows how either would perform in a second season--we do know that NA seems to have stabilized and gone up a bit, and is improving on its lead-in. And the opposite is true of SCC.

But you can't take pisher and John T. Folden seriously.
Apparently Zitrone can't help taking any threat to Zitrone's favorite shows seriously, since those shows are Zitrone's whole entire LIFE, and the slightest critical comment against them threatens Zitrone's very reason for being.

First of all John, how could you side with someone like him, dissapointing.
You think maybe your English teacher might be a little 'dissapointed' in your spelling?

Secondly, both are very biased. Pisher started bashing the SCC even before it aired because he has a thing for Summer Glau.

He bashed her before it aired but secretly he has a crush on her.
And this is why I want her show to be canceled?

Awwwww. How cute. But you know, I'm already taken.
This is not about hating NA or not, but since its first two post-AI episodes, it has never done above 2.5 in the demo. With 24, PB, SCC, and the various new (expensive) FOX series of the same genre coming next year, that is just not enough.

Lol, how could that be since you lose every argument you participate in.
Really? Veronica Mars, Drive, What About Brian, and Studio 60 have all been renewed? Gadzooks! What a catastrophic reversal of fortune!
Seriously, how long have you been here?
I'll concede defeat on SCC if it gets through a whole second season, then gets renewed for a third. A show getting renewed after a 9 ep season, in the wake of a strike, is nothing to brag about. And getting to poke fun at its braindead fans for a few more months next season, and to watch their heads explode as its ratings implode--gee, I'd call that a win-win.
This is not about hating NA or not, but since its first two post-AI episodes, it has never done above 2.5 in the demo.
And where is it written that NO brand-new FOX scripted show with an abbreviated first season gets renewed with ratings like that? It might very well be canceled--as SCC would have been, if S1 had run much more than 9 eps, since it would have been lucky to score above 2.5 with the lead-in NA had last night. Why can't you just admit it looks really bad for SCC, when its last ep before the two hour finale can only manage a 2.7 demo out of a 3.5 lead-in? NA performed better than that last night, and might surprise you next season. If FOX is desperate enough to renew both shows, which it very well might be.
Those CBS numbers mean nothing. In the Mountain Time Zone, NCAA took up most, if not all, of prime time, and on the West Coast, the end of the game was in the 8pm hour. I don't normally make it a point to check the finals, but I will for this.

Ummm, excuse me but I'm not "siding" with anyone. Furthermore, it's really a foolish move to discount my opinion due to the existence of a fan site. Everyone has a bias over something they like. I enjoyed TSCC despite it's obvious flaws but I still don't think it would be doing any better in this same slot with the same competition. Personally, I hope they both get renewed.
