I'm starting to think this way too. It has been a strong week of premieres for NBC.
I'm not sure, because it is up against the last Desperate Housewives pre-strike episode...It might be a strong second though, with a decent 18-49...Depends on if the CBS playoff game is a dog or not too (and if people want to see the Roger Clemens interview on 60 Minutes afterward...TAR will have their normal viewers- but it's likely a non-elim week, though the commercials look like the tasks are gonna be interesting)
But they're SUPPOSED to be bad. That's what people like about them. The total lack of pretension. "You know you only turned on the TV to forget about your problems, not to be reminded of them, so why should we beat our brains out trying to turn out something inspired and clever 20odd times a year when we know you'll watch anything that gives you an excuse to sit down and turn your brain off? If you were really interested in stimulating your mind, you'd be reading a book, or going outside and doing something!"
That's the rationale behind it, and a very sound (if evil) rationale it has proven to be.
PD is mindless pablum on a huge budget, with expensive camera shots, and lots of postproduction work. It's prettier than reality TV--I just don't agree it's better.
But I don't blame the writers--they gave the networks what the networks wanted--the problem with reality TV is that it doesn't repeat well, and too much of it lowers a network's cachet with the critics, and certain well-heeled demo groups. Doesn't sell on DVD at all. So they keep shooting for something with mindless entertainment appeal that can ALSO appeal to critics, and win awards, and flatter shallow people into thinking they're doing something other than turning their brains off when they're watching it.
PD was a good effort in this vein, but for whatever reason, American isn't quite dumbed-down enough to buy it. Yet.

It wasn't the season finale though. Next week's is.
Surely Gossip Girl with 2.18 million must be a repeat. There is such a sparcity of new shows if that is all GG can produce, then it is beyond bad. How Marc can you interpret it otherwise?
Didn't "Futurama" move to Comedy Central this week? I'm guessing Adult Swim was outbid for the rights - they wanted one last ratings boost from the show.

Well what a night last night! After being busy with family the past few days things have really changed. First, kudos to Law and Order: Original Flavor. This show's strong return and likely continued wins in coming weeks at least in viewers will give this show another year and likely seal the fate for ER and Las Vegas (unless the strike doesn't end early enough for final episodes and even then Vegas may still be done). Also, major kudos to ABC for what will become a streak of victories over CBS, which better get used to those sorts of numbers for its shows because they don't have much for original stuff. Also, kudos to Gossip Girl, which apparently does have some loyal fans after all.
Congratulations to TV-aholic for being the new Karma King in these parts. All of the ratings data he adds to each of the show threads is much appreciated.
Meanwhile, Marc will likely drop to 4th place over the weekend: a fitting punishment for failing to keep up with the posts (especially the post where he FINALLY creates a forum for The Biggest Loser).
Did anyone see Deal or No Deal and Celebrity APprentice last night? What was with the banker smashing that woman's piggy bank??? And The Apprentice was damn good!

I caught the last minute of The Apprentice, just in time to see someone get fired. I don't know who it was since they didn't look familiar. As with most Reality TV, the term 'celebrity' is very usely used.
I did watch a very good episode of ER last night. I think that it was the best episode of ER this season. The key to quality ER: no 'Abby' (Maura Tierney) and her family to drag the show into soap opera territory.
