They need to go back to what works - get rid of the Leonard/Penny relationship, and go back to the "friend" ensemble that seems to work best.
I agree completely. This week was a great episode in part, because we had Sheldon/Penny and not Leonard/Penny. They have to get rid of this Leonard/Pennny relationship ASAP, and get the group back together as friends. The Sheldon/Penny scenes are the best.
The scene with Sheldon/Penny in the car was one of the funniest of the entire series, IMO. These 2 definitely have chemistry together, and although they shouldn't base the series around it, they need to take better advantage of it. Makes me realize how boring Johnny Galecki really is, lol. If they can go back to better ensemble episodes, I bet they would see high ratings like this every week.
I still think that once DWTS ends, BBT's (and Men's) ratings will rise significantly. Men rose as high as 17 million last season, so I bet BBT could easily hit 15 million.
agreed. I would love BBT to go as high as 16 million once DWTS is over
I am not quite as optimistic as you guys. I think it will not go up as much as you think. Also, remember in January "24" will replace LTM and Chuck or Heroes will replace Trauma, and those shows will pull some viewers away from BBT. Also, The Bachelor will have less viewers than DWTS, but will skew younger so the increase may not be as large as you may think.
Castle's retention out of DWtS is not that great, but I'm eager to see how it'll do out of the young-skewing The Bachelor rather than the old-skewing DWtS.

We saw last year that 24 had little effect on Men's numbers (DWTS had a bigger effect). Seems to me like Men pulls in all the female viewers once DWTS, that stay with it until the spring cycle of DWTS begins. I'm thinking they'll also stick around with BBT.
Even back in December, I believe Men aired 3 or 4 episodes after DWTS ended that were all elevated from the season average up to that point. This week, BBT was just 300,000 viewers off from Men, and it outrated it .3 in the demo - not only is that the best retention yet, but those are some of the best numbers the show has gotten. And, that was when DWTS had some of its highest ratings of the season. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see the show reach 15+ million very soon.

Yes, but remember BBT skews younger than Men. Much younger. Look how much better its demos are with lower total viewers. I think Men will pick up more viewers from DWTS than BBT (because DWTS is an older skewing show), and BBT will lose some of its younger viewers to 24/Chuck/Heroes than Men will. I think you will be disappointed if you expect huge increases for BBT in the coming months.
How I Met Your Mother (97% coverage, CBS normally is 98%) - 8.162 million viewers - 5.1/8 HH - 3.4/9 A18-49
Accidentally on Purpose (97% coverage) - 7.278 million viewers - 4.7/7 HH - 2.8/7 A18-49
This kind of retention will not get AOP renewed for a second season. AOP's pattern is just like The Class which also got 18 and out.
What is going on with this 8pm hour? It was showing so much promise before, and AOP was slowly building a steady audience. Last night, both shows hit season lows. Gary Unmarried actually outrated AOP in viewers on its last outing, while Old Christine equalled it. It'll be interesting to see if the Wednesday comedies can beat it again in viewers this week. While the demo is still healthy, it's because Mother is it's lead-in. On the other hand, Mother should also be doing better than just 8 million viewers. Goes to show how much stronger BBT was in the slot last season.
Meanwhile, very good numbers for Castle. Season high? There's definitely a growing audience out there for this show. It may be one of the rare occasions when ABC's decision to let a show gain an audience pays off.

There were many that thought House would hurt it last year. It didn't, at all. Why would you think a declining show like 24, which has seen record lows in the demo last year, will take away from BBT's audience? If anything, 24 should be worried about BBT taking away from its audience. While Men may get up to 16-17 million again, I'm guessing most of those viewers will stick around with BBT.

AOP did better during the three weeks when House was out of the time slot for baseball. I think some people are watching HIMYM and then watching the second half hour of House. I think CBS made a big blunder in giving AOP the extra 5 when it was rising during House's absence. I predicted it would drop once House came back. ROE will have better retention than AOP, and that will doom AOP's chances of renewal.

Now, I'd have to agree with you. AOP is a good show, very underrated IMO, but it's ratings are not very good. Makes me feel bad for ROE, which continually gets the shaft when it would be able to do much better numbers in the timeslot.
Quick question....I read that White Collar is going to be airing its second part of its first season starting in January on Thursday nights, after Burn Notice. So my question is...why would USA be switching days on a show that just started. I have seen the ratings for White Collar and they have been solid so far, so why the change? Just wondering.
BBT will be the number one comedy pretty soon, it seems. What was that, about 300,000 off 2.5 Men's numbers in total viewers?
HIMYM's episode last night was exactly what you would want from this series, I would even say it's a classic episode, full of the crazy windiness that we've come to love of it.
