By this point last year, Veronica Mars was out-rating in A18-49 every single new series that The CW has programmed as replacement fare this year. Every single new series falls below Veronica's 1.2 young adult demographic (and yes, naysayers, there were repeats averaged into that number too).
From what I remember, Dawn O was the biggest supporter of VM over at the CW. But it seemed like people above her had the final say on letting that show go.
Plus, didn't VM's ratings see a sharp decline late in the season? Don't I remember one or two first run eps getting under 2 million viewers? Even with how the CW is doing right now, those numbers would look pretty bad.
There's no guarantee VM would've rebounded in the ratings if it had been renewed. And while there's a chance VM:FBI would've done better than GoGi or Reaper, I think there's just as good a chance it wouldn't have.
The CW has done some wacky things. But, looked at logically considering the way things were at the time, , canceling VM wasn't one of them.
well the growth at 9:30 is impressive. Just like for AG many liked what they saw. But i still think DW will end ap below 8 million in a couple of weeks

You can youtube the 10 minute trailer for VM:FBI that is also included on the season 3 DVD. It actually had the same feel as the series, just a bit more grown up. Actually watching that, it made me want my VM again.

What!! Don't tell me that Dawn O. is the one responsible for me losing my Dick Van Patten fix? She should rot in hell for that! Was she also the one responsible for the addition of Ralph Macchio as cousin Jeremy in the final season? Foisting a young unknown actor onto a hit show in a pathetic attempt to attract young viewers and managing to kill the series is just the kind of thing Dawn would do.
Agreed. I don't believe ABC ever thought this was going to be as big as DWTS is. It's meant as filler between cycles, something ABC has struggled with immensely.

Good to see Medium on par with the rest of the night on NBC. Yeah it dipped, but I don't think the audience of DOND is all that similar to that of Medium...nevertheless it is a lead in that gives it some more viewers.
Im not sure I actually want Medium after Heroes. I think they need to boost Heroes with DOND next fall like they did when the show started. And they also need to promise some BIG things for the show plotwise(i still loved S2 because I don't mind slow developing plots...see Lost... and think some of the criticism it took was a little harsh, I think it would have flowed as a whole season just as well as S1 if it took place over 22-24 episodes. But the casual viewer expects HUGE things from a buzz show like Lost if they want it to keep their interest). I would like to see Chuck have a chance to benefit from Heroes as a lead in for half a season to see if it gains some traction in viewers(im not sure but didn't it start to uptick a bit towards the later episodes last fall?)
Medium started as a midseason replacement show for NBC in Jan of '05 and has been a workhorse for the network to plug in a slot when a show fails. They had planned on saving it for midseason for the 3rd season and ended up having to pull it off the bench by November. Its now January again and the show returns with ratings better than both Chuck or Journeyman(and I loved both of those shows, but Journeyman would have worked better for USA or SCIFI) and provided NBC with a piece of gum to put over the crack in their leaky fish tank.

Here's an excerpt from NBC's press release that addresses the half hour numbers (courtesy futon critic):
Despite extraordinary competition, especially for young male viewers from Fox's BCS football, "American Gladiators" surged by a full rating point, or 23 percent, in adults 18-49 from half-hour to half-hour (to a 5.3/12 from a 4.3/11) and increased its total viewership by 1.8 million persons or 18 percent (to 11.8 million from 10.0 million). In its final half-hour from 8:30-9 p.m., "American Gladiators" topped the debut of "Dance Wars" in total viewers, adults, men and women 18-34, adults, men and women 18-49 and adults and men 25-54.
The Hulkster is the perfect opportunity to hit my skip forward button on the DVR.
I have just finished watching both eps and am glad that the spirit of the original is still present. I wish they just had Ali doing all of the interviews, but that is hardly a reason to watch or not watch the show in my book.
I'm glad to see the show doing so well. If NBC sticks to a once a week format, it should have some longevity.

Sad to see OR doing so bad. It is too bad more people haven't discovered the charm of this show. I wonder how much audience it really did lose coming out of Dance Wars. I really couldn't get into that show.
If they got rid of "The Hulkster", I might try it again. but he ruins the show for me.
Wow! That is impressive. I think the growth during the hour is a sign that the show will increase next week and will be the biggest hit of the midseason strike schedule.
