Prime-Time Ratings:
Monday 1/07/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 21.58 million, NBC: 10.40, ABC: 8.98, CBS: 8.40, CW: 1.68

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 7.6 rating/18 share, NBC: 3.9/ 9, CBS: 2.7/ 7, ABC: 2.6/ 6, CW: 0.7/ 2

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
National Championship Bowl Game (Fox), American Gladiators (NBC), Two and a Half Men R (CBS)

-Honorable Mention:
Dance Wars (ABC), Deal or No Deal (NBC), Medium (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
October Road (ABC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was no contest on this second Monday of 2008, with the National Championship Bowl Game on Fox (LSU vs. Ohio State) at a mammoth 21.58 million viewers and a 7.6 rating/18 share among adults 18-49 in prime-time. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Despite the severity of the competition, the time period debut of NBC’s American Gladiators was positive, with 10.91 million viewers (#3) and a 4.8/12 (#2) among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. Yes, life does go on during the writers strike. American Gladiators led into the time period debut Deal or No (Viewers: #2, 10.73 million; A18-49: #2, 3.6/ 9) and the season-premiere of Medium (Viewers: #2, 9.57 million) from 9-11 p.m.

In series-premiere news, the two-hour launch of ABC’s Dance Wars remained in the competitive loop, with 10.97 million viewers and a 3.0/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Obviously, this is no Dancing With the Stars, but opposite the football extravaganza on Fox it is still a admirable. As for the show itself, boring, wasn’t it?

Dance Wars led into the return of October Road, with a last-place finish in both total viewers (5.00 million) and adults 18-49 (1.8/ 5) at 10 p.m.

CBS aired a night of all repeats -- How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #4, 6.18 million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 5), The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #4, 6.36 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 5), Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 11.56 million; A18-49: #2, 3.9/ 9), Rules of Engagement (Viewers: #4, 8.05 million; A18-49: #4, 2.8/ 6) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #3, 9.14 million; A18-49: #4, 2.8/ 5). The CW also traveled the repeat route with encore telecasts of Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.18 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 2), Aliens in America (Viewers: 1.53 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 1), Girlfriends (Viewers: 1.41 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 1) and The Game (Viewers: 1.61 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2). Obviously these four comedies finished last in every half hour.

Really good for AG, really bad for DW. DW will drop a lot next week.

The sucess of something like AMERICAN GLADIATORS is a little terrifying...if networks decide that such shows are the future of television and scripted dramas take a back seat to such fare.

Let's hope that's not the case...

American Gladiators takes the traditional reality elimination competition ratings route... it started at a 4.3 and ended at a 5.3. Crazy! And against the BCS game. Next week will be interesting... will viewers lose interest after a week without the show, or will it come back even stronger without the huge Bowl game delivering young men to Fox (Prison Break certainly doesn't deliver numbers like those)?

Trust me that won't ahppen, just beacause a show does well it doesn't mean similar show will do well too. Dance War is a perfect example. Anyway as a person that usually doesn't like non-scripted show i must say AG is rather good

Looks like AG may be the real thing. A little bit of a drop from Sunday, but nothing too dramatic, espcially given the competition.

If the numbers bounce back up with NCAA Football gone, then we'll know we have the first true hit of the season here.

Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #4, 6.36 million; A18-49: #4, 2.2/ 5),

CBS is still getting great milage from this sleeper hit. Can't wait for new episodes to to once the strike is over.

How long before NBC trys to air 3 or 4 episodes a week with this show???

We know they will try, especially once the scripted shows start running out of episodes

I'm utterly shocked by the popularity of American Gladiators. I thought it would do mediocre ratings at best, but it's doing amazing, especially up against a huge ball game.

Is is possible to get the half-hour breakdowns of Dance Wars? Thanks!

Even though I expected Dance Wars to open higher, it still did well for ABC. I'd be interested to see if Dance Wars dropped a lot during the timeslot or not. Next week will be the real test for it.

October Road isn't cutting it. Why is it still on?

American Gladiators is having a very strong hold. It will be back in the fall. In fact, I could see NBC doing two nights of Gladiators.

I also thought Medium would debut higher.

Marc, I know its always asked, but what are the 1/2 hour break down for Dance Wars and why do you think the Dancing With the Stars crowd didn't show up for DW?

Too me it doesn't make sence that they would not at least sample it for the fiorst episode.

Prison Break has already been slipping. In between men escaping from jail or men doing athletics, I would think more males would choose the Gladiators. Just my opinion though.
