Scrubs was a mess before ABC tried to start getting it from NBC. Why anyone would want a comedy that brings in 6 million is beyond me.
To piss off NBC.
Aside from that, ABC thinks that it can still be the hit it once was (or at least thinks it can get more from the syndication deals if it doesn't end quite yet).
I guess they will have to admit for sure if they plan to bring back Scrubs. Beyond listing which shows will be renewed/cancelled, I think that any schedule will be written in pencil. NBC is 'hell bent' on pretending that they are leading the way, aren't they?
Side note: I see that Silverman has had his 'duties' reduced a bit as the cable development has been turned over to more capable hands: Link
NBC won't have to decide right away. For instance, they could still pick it up a few weeks before ABC announces their lineup or a few hours before like they have in the past. Then they could just wait until midseason and burn it off. Silverman hates the folks at ABC. He will probably do this to mess with them. Making NBC better is not his number one priority as shown by recent moves. As for the promotion of "capable hands", why isn't this woman running the whole thing after her achievements with USA and Sci Fi?

And POing the other network is why NBC will probably still renew it. I hope NBC renews it. Silverman's arrogance is more fun to watch than the chimps at ABC.

My guess is a new drama on Tuesday with House and a new drama on Friday with Bones. PB and SCC return to Monday with Til Death, Back to You, and Kitchen Nightmares filling Wed. again and the gameshows on Thursday. Sunday may see a new comedy.

Like it or not ROE will put up much better numbers post Two And A Half Men...
Looks like HIMYM will get renewed again....
Agreed about Fox. I think they will add a new 1/2 hour comedy for sunday night (and get rid of KOH or AD). I think they will add Dollhouse, Fringe and one other drama . One of those paired with Bones on Fri nights, one to air on Tue's and the other for the spring. Also one/two more comedy's to fill in around Back To You. I don't think their is going to be room for New Amsterdam. Well at least I don't think Fox is going to try to squeeze in a show that is not performing as well as it should or has the potential to be a big hit.
I think KotH will be held for midseason as American Dad has been renewed and nothing has done as well after Family Guy so far. KotH could also air at 7:30 on non-NFL Sundays behind Simpsons and Family Guy repeats. I thought Unhitched was a good similar appealing comedy for the cartoons ala Malcolm when I saw it, but I think the audience is much younger so that's probably why it doesn't stick. Here's to Fox giving that worthy series a post-Idol encore or two to see what would happen. It reminded me of Seinfeld and that's a good thing in today's comedy landscape. Perhaps ABC, the land of low rated comedy would please me with 13 eps paired with Scubs next fall.
No. It thrived thanks to Frasier and Friends and Will and Grace. When it was forced out into the real world, it fell to 7 million on average and then went lower and lower in following seasons.

It is very interesting to see that Mr. Silverman is copying Mr. Meidel's strategy for MyNetworkTV during last year's 2007 upfront in bypassing the glitzy presentation in favour of a series of one-on-one dog-and-pony shows to the advertising community.
Has anyone heard confirmation of whether MyNetworkTV is sticking with the one-on-one presentation format for their 2008-09 upfront, or whether they are reverting back to the Madison Avenue flashy presentation model along with the other networks? (except NBC, of course)

ABC, put WMC next monday.. please
And why not move the Bachelor to Wed. where it could be reality night and just end Men in Trees, which has no chance in hell by shoving it off on Fridays.

So it was a hit in the same way that Samantha Who? is a hit: all because of the lead-in.

Probably right. Although SW is only a first year sitcom so loyal fans hadn't really been established yet. I still say BBT outlast SW in the long run.
