Big Shots? Shocker Renewal? Don't worry their will be no shocking renewal for Big Shots. ABC realized as did the rest of us how awful a show this was and would rather just let it die. I don't even think they showed the last episode did they? Anyway...My vote is for ES and BL to return. The rest will be gone.

If I had to rank-order the six ABC 10 pm series still sitting on the bubble from best to worst prospects for another season, here's how I figure them as of this morning:
1. Boston Legal 2. Eli Stone 3. Men in Trees 4. Womens Murder Club 5. Big Shots 6. October Road
If Women's Murder Club does well on Tuesdays, it will go up and probably cinch renewal. If Boston Legal dies on Wednesdays, it may jeopardize its renewal decision.
And Men in Trees needs one miracle rating next Wednesday to push it up the list, or convert ABC decision-makers into buying into a third season.
October Road and Big Shots are long shots at best, but both could be shocker renewals (vs. Eli Stone, Big Shots did pretty decent numbers, especially W18-34, at 10 pm on Thursdays).
I also think the Office is hurt by the fact that you have to work in an office to appreciate a lot of the humor (or at least it helps). Someone who works construction, for example, might not be able to relate to the show as much as someone who works in an office.
There are a hell of a lot more office workers than construction workers. Why would construction workers have identified with Seinfeld, Friends, or Mad About You?
I think it could even be the opposite problem--too many people identify only too much with The Office, and are watching TV to try and forget how much of their lives they spend in jobs every bit as colorless and unrewarding, working for men every bit as obnoxious and insensitive as Michael Scott--but not nearly as entertaining.
Maybe for some people, The Office isn't funny because it's true.

ALL of these shows are awful. There is not one that deserved to make it to the air in the first place. Some will survive a while longer simply to fill airspace, then disappear without a trace.
I say renew Eli Stone and keep it on Thursday, 10 PM.
And if that happens, and the ratings still don't improve?
And they wouldn't, you know.
Quite the contrary.
If it continues to get close to 60% retention from its lead in (New Show, not repeat), and it followed Grey's 20 million viewers than it would be getting about 11.5 - 12 million viewers. Thats just about what Brothers and Sisters does which warrants "winners" and "Honorable Mentions" from Marc all the time.
What would lead you to believe that suddenly it would stop getting that kind of retention. 12 Million at 10 on Thursday night for ABC? I think they would take it happily.

You're assuming that it's always going to get that retention, which is just plain crazy.
You also don't ask yourself why ABC would waste the Grey's lead-in on ES. They will have SOME new dramas next fall, you know.

Because it's harder to retain a big lead-in than a small one. You do realize that any show airing on ABC on a Thursday night is going to get three or four million viewers, simply for being on ABC on a Thursday night, right? Why do you think that there is some unerring natural law of viewership that would give ES the same retention out of any lead-in?

I think you've got some nerve calling that chain of wishful suppositions 'thinking'. Is what I think.
agreed. more like a pick your poison situation. ABC and CBS need to come up with some original , edgy ideas for next season. Since I heard they are only looking at 2 new dramas max I doubt this will happen.

PS: Greys still gets 20 million viewers?
Nicely done, pisher.

Why is it crazy? It has consistently gotten close to 60% retention after both Lost new episodes and Desperate Housewives. If something consistently happens, than it becomes a safe assumption that it will continue to do it. Granted nothing is for certain in this world but death and taxes, but I would bet money on Eli Stone retaining 55 - 60% of Grey's Anatomy.

I'm sure they will have some new dramas. But my point is that ABC keeps finding shows that work after Grey's (Men In Trees, October Road), and then they renew the shows and ship them off to death slots. Then they put on new dramas (Big Shots) the next season that do worse. Thats why I advocate sticking with Eli Stone in the fall until Lost returns, and see if Eli Stone actually grows. If it doesn't than they aren't on the hook for more than the 13 episode order.

Because Eli Stone got that retention out of Desperate Housewives. I think Eli Stone would work just as well after Grey's and Ugly Betty. It is an uplifting, fanciful show that would be a good way to end the night.

Last time I checked, new episodes of Grey's were in the 19 - 20 million range.
Last night's episode of Survivor was one of the greatest ever. This season of Survivor has to be one of the best since season 1 or 2. Next year it would be good if they brought all the winner's back (except season 1's winner) and compete to win 10 million dollars.
As for The Office...who cares? I have no idea how people watch that show, it's not funny at all. I tried to watch it and like it, but it just sucks imo. My Name is Earl on the other hand, I like that show.
Eli Stone, doesnet deserve renewals. Out of those possible 10 o'clock shows, I think Boston Legal and Women's Murder Club should be renewed. Then, cancel the rest. Hopefully WMC can pull it off on Tuesday's. (I bet it can)

ES was a new show at first--its ratings have declined. The number of people interested in it has declined. It had bigger lead-ins, then smaller ones. So it has seemed to always get around that much retention, but if it was after Greys' for a whole season, it would be lucky to manage 40% by the end.

ABC would be betting tens of millions of dollars, you understand.

Hey, it's not MY money. Yours, either.

Because Eli Stone got that retention out of Desperate Housewives.
For the record, it got 57% retention in viewers, 51% in the demo. Against lousy competition. Honestly, if the other networks knew ES was on Thursdays at 10pm, they'd tee up on it. Sitting duck.

Oh it'd END it all right.

And ES would be in the 4-5million viewer range, before the end of those 13 eps.
For the record, what you have just engaged in is known as a 'correlation'. Look it up.

What is interesting to me is how MNIE got a 9 share yet only at 2.6 demo, yet 30 Rock got an 8 share yet a 2.8 demo. I guess younger people are just watching less an less at 8:00 with daylight savings time kicking in.
8 p.m. My Name is Earl (NBC) Viewers: 6.77 million (#3), A18-49: 2.6/ 9 (#2)
8:30 p.m. 30 Rock Viewers: 6.42 million (#3), A18-49: 2.8/ 8 (#2)
