Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

-Ratings Breakdown: A night of all original programming led CBS to a first-place Thursday finish in total viewers, while ABC (also in originals) was No. 1 overall among adults 18-49. NBC and Fox shared the No. three and four spots, respectively, while a night of repeats on the CW finished a distant fifth.
CBS’ still addictive Survivor: China opened the evening on a dominant note, with 14.05 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. ABC’s Ugly Betty, featuring beloved guest star Betty White, was second in total viewers (9.34 million) and tied for No. 2 overall with the NBC comedies among adults 18-49, with a 2.8/ 7 in the demo. My Name is Earl and 30 Rock performed as follows:
NBC/Thursday 8:00 p.m. My Name is Earl Viewers: 7.39 million (#4), A18-49: 3.0/ 9 (#2)
8:30 p.m. 30 Rock Viewers: 5.78 million (#4), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#3)
Sorry, folks, but it does not look like 30 Rock will ever catch on.
Also in the 8 p.m. hour were Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Viewers: #2, 8.72 million; #4, 2.4/ 7), which was a vast improvement over two repeat episodes of sitcom ‘Til Death on the year-ago evening, and a repeat of the CW’s Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.81 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 3).
Dominance from 9-10 p.m. was split between CBS and ABC as follows:
Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) Viewers: 17.64 million (#2), A18-49: 7.1/18 (#1)
Sadly, it could be months before we see original episodes of CSI and Grey’s Anatomy competing against each other. NBC and Fox shared the No. three and four spots in the hour as follows:
NBC The Office (R) – 9:00 p.m. Viewers: 4.99 million (#4), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3)
Fox Don’t Forget the Lyrics (R) Viewers: 6.71 million (#3), A18-49: 2.1/ 5 (#4)
Did you ever think the day would come when NBC would slip to fourth in a time period on Thursday? Also in the 9 p.m. hour was a repeat of the CW’s Supernatural at last-place 2.04 million viewers and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49.
A below-average performance of CBS’ Without a Trace was the most-watched show at 10 p.m., with 12.66 million viewers and second among adults 18-49, with a 3.2/ 8. Annual ABC special Barbara Walters Presents The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007 finished first in the demo (4.7/13), with a second-place finish in total viewers (11.67 million). Comparably, this was a noticeable improvement over regularly scheduled occupant Big Shots. The 300th episode of ER was nothing special, meanwhile, with a last-place finish in both total viewers (8.12 million) and adults 18-49 (3.0/ 8). One year earlier, ER averaged 12.02 million viewers and a 5.5/14 in the demo, based on the final nationals. Yes, it is time to close the curtain.

Yes, NBC is a TOTAL disaster. They could've at least promote a little more the 300th episode of ER. This time i tottally agree with Marc. Please end ER with some dignaty
Otherwise everything else was at below average numbers. Why is that? If the strike ends we'll see really ugly numbers in spring all across the board.
Bad outings for WAT and ER, especially ER considering the big event. Meanwhile, maybe Barbara should get a regular series post-Grey's or something!
As I said last week, The Office seems to have this halo that affects everything on NBC Thursday. The whole night has completely tanked since that one half hour has been out of originals.
ABC really screwed up airing part 1 of a 2 part episode Grey's on Thanksgiving, then waiting two weeks to show part two. I also think that many viewers think all shows are in repeats right now. Originals have been below average across the board this week (with the exception of the HEAVILY promoted DH tornado ep.) Many viewers hear "strike" and "reruns" and assume the reruns have already begun.
Most people don't follow the industry closely enough to know better.

After last weeks high, these are some pretty depressing #'s. Greys and CSI took some hits as well. I am wondering if people already believe that everything is in repeat mode due to the strike or are these typical #'s for Dec?
Oof! Wow, that Grey's is FAR below the last non-holiday airing. Like a full point! And Ugly Betty below a 3.0 (although possibly the best episode of the series in a long while... so campy!)
A lackluster Thursday night. The only things relatively bright on the schedule were Survivor and Babwa.
I'm a fan of 30 Rock, but last night's was not a good episode.

Marc why do keep leaving Ugly Betty off the list of winners. For a show to get 10 million going against Survivor is a good thing. UGH! GA was not all that great last night... Last year's special two part in November was better. Its not time to cancel ER... for a show still getting 3.0 in the demo at NBC is a blessing for them...
Unfortunately, the ratings are down significantly year to year for Ugly Betty.

I totally agree with you on this one. I think abc did drop the ball. If they were smart they would have aired a movie on thnaksgiving and saved the new Greys for the following week instead of breaking the momentum. I hope that next year abc stockpiles on original movies to air throughout the holidays i.e., Thanksgiving night and Sundays to help keep viewers from abandoning them on that night sans Desperate.

how does winning the November sweeps translate into 'dropping the ball'?
