Well according to your plan, moving the comedies would simply make another night weak. The comedies historically have lost a little ground when football left just like Bones and House tend to lose some ground when Idol isn't around. The main problem last year was Fox's scheduling of the Toons. New ep then repeat then new ep then repeat. It was that way for 5 months. Its a shock they held up as well as they did.

Originally posted by TV-aholic: Thats just it. The Toons do BETTER aginst tougher competition. Once football was over, their ratings fell.
Plus, I hate when a network "plays it Safe". FOX should be more agressive on Sundays and create a Win-Win by moving things around a little, much like how they moved BONES and HOUSE this season.

Originally posted by Hawk-eye: I see little reason for FOX to move the toons away from Sunday. They won't do better on another night. They are steady and suck up the NFL overrun pretty well. House doesn't need the NFL as a lead-in, anyways.
Another thing about the toons is the fact that they go from a huge lead in each week to virtually no lead in each January. Perhaps its time Fox find something to air on Sundays at 7pm. I would be all for King of the Hill moving back up to 7:30 behind Simpsons/Family Guy repeats and for American Dad to simply spell repeats of the other shows. Then the new comers could each take their turn at 8:30 and 9:30 with Dad filling in when needed. I just don't see Fox messing with success on this night just like they are unlikely to mess with success on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with House and Bones. A little stability could go a long way for them.
Because of the 7pm situation on Sundays is WHY the toons need to move. Going to a 2 hour programming night would make the toon non-depending on a bad or non-compatitble leadin (til Death).
Having a couple of Dramas on Sundays (House, Bones, Frings{if its a hit}, etc...) would do strong numbers and a show like 5th Grader would work better at 7pm as a lead in. The audiences are a little more compatible.
Plus, as we've seen, thursdays are now the Biggest night for the Nets. Advertisers (ie. Movie Studios love Thursday nights). The Aniamation Block would deliver strong demos that are perfect for this.
I know we can agree to disagree, but I do believe the Aniamtion block could get new life on Thursday Nights.

The FOX animation would absolutely fail on Thursdays. A lot of people that still watch the Simpsons do it out of habit. They even admit that the show hasn't been good in years, but still watch hoping something will change. King of the Hill and American Dad are already failing. Put this lineup on Thursday and it will come in a distant 4th behind the big 3 every week of the season.
The Simpsons may be years past its peak, but I still find it funnier than most of the 'new' half hour comedies, animated or otherwise.
And so do a lot of other people--it would do fine on Thursdays. But FOX wouldn't get as much bang for its buck there, because it would be competing with comedies there.
What makes Animation Domination work is that it's great counterprogramming. On Thursdays, not so much.
